“Big Clean Room, Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

It's important to set the right expectations when you visit this place. $160 a night is certainly not cheap, and sure, that amount of money can get you a lot more in some cities, but this is Big Sur, and lodging is limited (and therefore) expensive here. Knowing that, you can come to appreciate what you do get- a very clean and well maintained cabin in the woods, an unusually large room, and a quiet, relaxing spot to just get away!

Mind you there is no TV in the room, no WiFi, and spotty cell phone coverage. Which is exactly what I was looking for to have a great getaway from civilization. At night it's so dark that you see stars you didn't know were there!

My only complaint is the strange architectural decision to build a skylight directly over the bed. Bring an eye mask if you're prone to being woken up by light in the morning. Otherwise, just roll with it and get an early start to the day.

Room Tip: Room 50 was a good, standard room with new looking carpet and bathroom.

My husband and I were here for a few days of relaxation with friends. Our room was large and comfortable although somewhat minimalistic (no tv, which was fine but the room could have used a comfortable reading chair). The hotel has spacious grounds set among beautiful redwood trees with lots of hiking trails in the area. There were turkeys wandering around the grounds so they were kind of fun to watch. We had an excellent breakfast of ham and eggs in the dining room. Dinner was good. I liked this place very much and would like to go back.

We were very happy with our stay here. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and the cabin was brilliant! The bed was very comfortable and the room was really spacious.

There were a couple of things that could've been cleaner, but all in all it was a fabulous cabin in the most beautiful area.

We had dinner in the restaurant, which was good, however, a tad overpriced for what you received and the service was pretty slow. I'd recommend going up the road to Nepenthe which was 3 miles away.

We'd stay here again if we are ever back in the magnificent Big Sur!

Took two rooms for $129 each without a fireplace and stayed for a night as a stop from LA to San Francisco. Excellent location, room was clean and spacious with a balcony. Really quiet with no TV which is good for this location, although wi-fi could have helped to keep planning our journey.
I went with friends but will come again with partner!

We stayed here one night on the way to LA from San Francisco. The room was $159 without a fireplace. It does not have a phone or tv. The room was clean and spacious. The shower head was very low. My husband is 6"3' and he had to really bend over to get under the shower head. There is a swimming pool and restaurant. We decided to eat at the restaurant and it was delicious. There is a waterfall on the property you can walk to. You also get in to the neighboring parks for free with a paid night. Very nice place to stay.

we took the family room. 220 dollars. 60 sqm. 6 people can fit in, comfortably.
Good value for what we paid. it was clean, warm. quite & pleasant.
Dinner was a big surprise. excellent food with good service
(may be because we were alone in the restaurant, everybody else just left).
Breakfast the food was OK but the service was a bad joke...they were not ready for a long weekend crowd,

Perfect location for a week in Big Sur. Close to trails, right in park. We had 5 people. Note that the largest cabins are 1 bedroom, 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom, and the front room is also the 2nd bedroom. So we all slept well but there was no common area to hang out other than the bedrooms. There is a porch, but it was a tad cold to be out much there. It was pretty clean and had been renovated somewhat recently, I just would have made different design choices. No toaster, no can opener. We ate in the cabin and at the restaurant, which worked great. Overall had a great time and lodge/cabin didn't detract too much. Next time may stay near by to try it out.
