We spent a couple of hours here while exploring the Big Sur area. This 61 yr old was able to do the Valley View Trail in sandals no less 10 weeks after a hip replacement! A great way to see the redwoods up close without having to go so far north. Nice Nature Center there too. .

After an hour hike up a mountain in Pfeiffer Big Sur (thinking that’s the park my friend recommended), we drove another 15 minutes down the PCH and found this beautiful park. Since we already paid at the other one it was free to park here. They were only letting one car in after one car came out, but it was less than a five minute wait. We were like the third car back (even though the sign at the street said parking lot was full and many people were just parking on the street). We only went to see the waterfall that dumps into the Pacific. It really isn’t a hike, but a paved trail that takes ten minutes to get to the lookout point. There were lots of people and the trail was closed at a certain point, but people don’t stay long so just wait to get up to the fence to get your pics and then move along for the next group. It was gorgeous.

This is a beautiful place for a picnic and a hike. On the east side of the highway is a very nice day camp area with picnic tables and restrooms. On the ocean side of the Highway there is a nice trail for views and hiking. If you take trail going south you will find a beautiful little two campsites area. You can carry in your camping supplies and spend the night if you like. You must obtain a permit from the State park Services to use these camps.

The trails are nice and the beach is beautiful. A nice place to sit and just be. I do recommend this for five and up. Be sure to bring water. and if driving watch out for bicyclist, the road does narrow and is curvy which can present a challenge.
