stunning view, easy boardwalk and historical commentary; right off road, so no fee if you didn't get the park pass.

Definitely a must if you are driving the coast through Big Sur! The area is beautiful, but can get crowded.

McWay Falls is in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park which is 1 hour drive from Monterey. The road (hwy 1) is twisty and turny so if you suffer from motion sickness, as I do, be forewarned! The falls are less than 5 minutes walk from the parking lot. Even in the midst of California's drought, the falls had water. The falls empty out into a secluded beach cove with white sand and turquoise water so it's really pretty. We walked to the end of the 0.3 mile trail and watched the sun set. I thought the whole thing was pretty but the rest of the family (husband & 3 school aged kids) said it wasn't worth the long drive. If you're doing another hike and spending a bit more time at the park, then maybe it's worth the drive -- but all we did was see the waterfall and stop at Bixby Bridge on the way.

This was gorgeous. We pulled into the park and paid $10.00. If you don't want to pay the money you can pull over to one of the small turnouts before the park entrance and see it. The waterfall dropping right into the Ocean was so pretty.

The water is so blue, the rocks are gorgeous. Breathtaking and it seems to change by the minute. We will return!
