An easy path under the highway takes you to a lookout of the falls. It is the quintessentail Big Sur view. Unfortunately, you can not get down to the beach.

Two different trails in opposite directions. Both are an easy walk and wide well groomed trails. A few historic markers helped to picture this beautiful place back in the day and understand the history. Although you cant get down to the beach it is still a really great view and pretty surroundings to enjoy.

Wrong time of year, but the falls still had a good flow. The ocean was bright blue/green and clear.

The falls are a short walk from the park's parking lot. The path is level and well maintained.

I took a very slow drive from my hotel in Monterey to McWay Falls. Mt=y hotel told me it would take 45 mins...however, that is for locals. It took me 2 hrs to get there because of the winding road. But it was worth the trip. While you cannot access the beach area below, the view of the falls are spectular. I wish I had ventured there during the early morning versus the mid afternoon. I am sure the light would have been awesome. Something to keep in mind, wear proper hiking shoes and depending on the time of year dress comfortable. If you are interested in photography, take a couple of filters with you and maybe a wide angle and a telephoto lens.

Take the walk to McWay waterfall, it’s well worth the time, and it’s a short, easy walk, it will take you about 7-8 minutes to get there. You can go down 27 easy stairs from the road, and along on a path to a catwalk around the mountain for fabulous views, not only of the waterfall, but of the coastline to the north, if you continue on the catwalk a few feet to the end. From there you can see to the north, and the view is dramatic. You can get down there from the road, by going down those few steps, or from the parking lot in the park, thru a tunnel under the road. I did it from the road, and I thought it was much nicer than walking thru a tube.
