Part of me doesn't want to tell you about Esalen because I'd like it to remain a well kept secret ! (Even though many Europeans vacation there !) My sister and I (ages 56/62) spent 8 days in this beautiful and peaceful location ! Esalen is where you go when you want to escape the rat race and get in touch with yourself and nature. The food is so healthy and wonderful that you can't pass up a meal. The grounds are beautiful..rooms nice and quaint..mineral baths sit right on the cliffs overlooking a coastline to die for ! The redwoods offer easy to tougher hiking. Both of us, out of shape with no hiking experience, signed up for a 5 day class "Mts. and Waves" lead by a wonderful endearing brother sister team..Steven and Susan Harper ! Just as we had hoped, we were able to keep up the pace and loved every minute ! In the second half of the day Susan lead our group of men and women in a Continuum session of movement to enliven our ability to feel what we had experienced being out in nature. Over the weekend my sister took a class on The "Power of Patience" lead by the author M.J. Ryan and I took a class "Love Yourself" lead by Dr. Mark Abramson who heads the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program for the Stanford Hospital and University. Both were excellent ! Esalen offers many classes every week that touch your soul and creative side. I'm warning you to not go there because you won't want to leave ! Linda DeStefani
