“Nice vacation finish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

This was the last night of our recent trip to California. We were told this restraint had wonderful food and we were not disappointed. We started off with a Crab / Avocado dip. Oh how I would love to have this recipe. There were 4 people in our group. One had Chicken, one had Lamb and the rest had Ribs. Not a complaint to be had.
Only reason for 4 stars and not 5....It was a little chilly this night and we chose to sit inside. We were the first dinner guest to sit down and we were sat by the outside door. I should have asked to move.

“Not much vegetarian options”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2014

We were planning to have dinner here because they had kids menu (small portions) but found out there were no vegetarian options..
Place was good but we walked out because menu wasn't very enticing. There was wifi that was helpful.

“Mediocre, overpriced food in a beautiful setting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

The setting by the river is lovely but the food was not. It's hard to mess up a chicken quisadilla and a brisket sandwich but both were dry and fairly tasteless. There are far better options for food along this stretch of road. Keep driving.

“Poor Food for the price!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

We stopped at Big Sur River Inn Restaurant on the advise of a local to the area. The food was overpriced and disappointing.
I had coffee while working on my computer in front of their log fire, which was lovely. My boyfriend ordered Butternut Squash soup while he waited for me, and he was disappointed to find the soup over salted and the bread was stale.
I then had a good glass of white wine and ordered Calamari. I thought that along with a medium rare burger it would feed both me and my boyfriend. The Calamari arrived on wilted lettuce with brown edges, and although the Calamari were good, the portion was tiny, and I mean tiny for $12.99!
The burger was a small flat patti that looked suspiciously like it was from a Costco pack. Instead of a fat juicy burger we got a dry flat thin one. At $15.99 this was unacceptable.
We won't be back for food, but we would be back for a bar drink and a lounge beside the fire.

“Nice spot on a sunny day”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

We went here on an uncharacteristically warm sunny day for lunch. The place was packed. The service was so, so very slow. The food was mediocre. There was live music, which was extremely loud. So loud, even sitting as far away from it as we could get, we couldn't hear each other. There is a river (obviously), and you can get food from their grill down by the water and sit in a lawnchair. This is what we had in mind, but there wasn't any space. Kind of a hippy place (like most of Big Sur). Overall, I'd say a nice place to bask in the sun and listen to music while you have a burger and cocktail or something. Better yet if you can stick your feet in the water while doing so.
