My wife and I spent a week here - excellent choice. Rooms are bright with natural light - lots of windows, yet the sun only peeks through the many trees meaning it does not get hot. Nice little indoor patio with a hammock, and a tree growing up through the screen. Nice backyard with another hammock, chairs. Across the street from the beach, but you have to walk a few minutes to get access. Robin is a wealth of information about the area, and organizes tours to the cenotes as well as a lecture series on the area. Richard's La Duna is a great place for fresh food for breakfast and lunch - great fresh juices and smoothies. Definitely a good place to unwind - close to Playa del Carmen, and only 20 minutes from the Cancun airport, but away from the hustle and bustle of those places. Lots of great options for food in the town as well.

Room Tip: Both rooms are the same, although the one we had has a tree in the indoor patio.

We were lucky to stay a couple nights here last week (early Jan). The design of the Layla Guesthouse building is incredible and the studio apartments are modern, clean, with unique tables, chairs and desktops made of wood from local artisans. A garden is in the bathroom and we woke up to singing birds! It was all a feast for the senses. The beach and town center are just a short walk away.

Hosts Robin and Steve are very friendly, accommodating and interesting (and are very involved in the community). We got hooked on Richard’s cooking and Louis’ fresh fruit drinks (at La Duna Café attached to the Guesthouse). We enjoyed Richard’s huevos rancheros & muffins, and at lunch, his green curry chicken & spring rolls. It’s very apparent that he loves to cook, and when he had time, he came out and talked with us. They're all people we'd like to stay in touch with.

We went to Puerto Morelos at the end of our Mexico vacation specifically to snorkel at the protected Arrecife Reef, which is not too far out from the beach. Local boats will take you out there and guide you through the reef. It’s great to experience a reef that is still healthy. It’s such a beautiful little spot in Mexico. It was hard to leave, but now we know where we’ll stay again when we return. Maureen & Dano, Denver CO

Staying at Layla Guesthouse was a wonderful surprise.

Located in Puerto Morelos, far from the throngs of tourists you usually find in Cancún and Playa del Carmen, it is a comfy nest where you'll be greeted by Robin and Steve, two of the friendliest guesthouse owners I've ever met.

The guesthouse features two large and very comfortable rooms (with huge beds, hammocks, AC, Italian shower, kitchen, etc.), still it is way more than a place where travelers can rest. Robin and Steve are developing their own vision of tourism, one that promotes sustainable development, a better understanding of the Mayan culture, and a deep respect for the natural and cultural wonders of Yucatan. This is the perfect place to start discovering what Yucatan truly is about: a territory with a unique ecosystem, history, and culture.

You will also be able to taste Richard's cuisine at the guesthouse café. Just as nice as Robin and Steve, Richard will amaze you with his tacos, guacamole, ribs, which always feature the freshest and tastiest ingredients.

If you are looking for more than the bland touristic frenzy of Cancun and want to discover what Yucatan is truly about, Layla Guesthouse is a must, all within a stone's throw away from the wonderful beach of Puerto Morelos.

We spent a week at Layla Guesthouse in mid December. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and left feeling like we had made new friends- Robin, Steve, and Richard who has the restaurant La Duna, at the front of Layla.
The setting is lovely, the yard is private and comfortable with a hammock, chairs, beautiful plants, a parrot named Jack, and an outdoor shower.
The 2 units are like studio apartments with a bit of outdoor space in your indoor space. There's an enclosure next to the kitchenette that is open to the sky (screened) with a tree growing in it and a hammock chair. It's a quiet relaxing spot to sit and read or take a nap. We had a white orchid blooming in the bathroom that had an exotic intoxicating smell, but only at night. What a treat to open the bathroom door to the smell of that orchid! The king size bed was very comfortable and the sheets and towels were good quality. Beach towels and chairs come with the rental.
The location is great- it's a quick and easy walk to the square. The grounds of the secondary school are right across the street and the school grounds border the beach. You can hear the sounds of the sea from the yard at Layla and there's a great view of the Caribbean from the upper terrace. One can access the beach just a short walk down the road.
Robin and Steve are wonderful hosts- helpful, friendly, fun, just great people! We loved staying at Layla and highly recommend it.

This new little guesthouse is tucked away in the streets of Puerto Morelos. The hosts Steve & Robin and cook (Richard) will make you feel right at home straight away. It has two very nicely designed apartments with all you can think of. Every window has a special view. And the cactus garden in the back is great! They also organize tours to wonderful places, Steve can take care of your hair (he's a pro hair dresser), you can join a meditation session, etc., etc., etc. Just go!

A great place to stay in Puerto Morelos, juste 20 minutes from Cancùn.
The city is really peaceful and beautiful, such as Layla's house.
Robin is a wonderful host, with a lot of tips to visit the area, and constant good mood.
One of my best trip.
