Really enjoyed our stay at the Excellence, just a couple of niggles though...lobster house restaurant was virtually at a standstill, took ages for them to serve us, even when they were really not that busy. One really big bug bear was that according to the rules of the hotel, towels were not to be placed on sun beds, but by 8am every morning it was a fight to find a bed without one, people were then going off to breakfast etc, some people were reserving them until 4 in the afternoon so that they could use them after they got back from a trip out, this should certainly not be allowed in a five star hotel.

Our room was delightful, we had a swim up room in block 2 (room 2006) which had the sun right through until 6pm, loved it, only trouble was sometimes they didn't make the room up until 4.30 which is very late and then by 6pm when we were getting ready to go out there would be a knock on the door for turn down service, that was definitely way too early. Had to call reception a few times to get our mini bar refilled with water but this was done quickly and efficiently.

All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would certainly go back again.

Room Tip: Blocks one and two get the most sunshine, if you can afford the extra get a swim up room, absolutely...

We stayed at the resort in April for our anniversary. The hotel & grounds were beautiful and the fact that we didn't have to make reservations for dinner was AWESOME! There are plenty restaurants to choose from, in particular we liked Chez Isabelle, Spice, and Toscana. They were VERY VERY good. In some restaurants, however, the service was extremely slow (as in a 2 hour wait between being seated and receiving your main course). The breakfast bar was great too-everything you could want. The drink options throughout the hotel were great, including the room's mini bar, which is restocked every day with rum, vodka, tequila, wine, beers, and soft drinks. We ordered room service for both breakfast and dinner and it was fantastic (highly recommend that, and typically I think room service food is terrible!). There are plenty of great places to lounge around, as there are multiple lazy river pools, aside from the main pool (which gets a little loud) and the beach. The offering of rafts around the property is a nice touch as well. The entertainment was pretty good, the Michael Jackson show was pretty entertaining. IF you're looking for a hotel with a lot going on in terms of nightlife, this isn't for you, but it was perfect for us. I must add that I left some items at the hotel & after contacting them, they were found and they shipped them back to me! I never expected that!

Now the downside: when checking in, we were told that we had a room with 2 Queen beds, although we had reservations for a King bed. We were told that your reservation only reserves a specific 'level of room', not an exact room. Keep this in mind when making your reservations!! Nothing else was available so we had our room with 2 beds for the week. (The room was actually very nice and spacious-the bathroom was large & there was a sunken living area that went out onto the patio) The service was typically ok, mostly pretty slow. I'd say it was average, however, the service at Spice restaurant was the best by far! We also found ourselves wishing they had a snack bar set up throughout the day, as we've had access to other all-inclusive resorts we've stayed in, with items such as chips/guacamole & burgers, etc. Also, good to know--if you want a swim up room, check out the location!!! Some rooms are facing main walkways throughout the property and it would be a HUGE bummer to pay extra for it & have people looking in at you & walking by all day & night.

Room Tip: If you want a swim up room, check out the location!!! Some rooms are facing main walkways throughou...

While you are at this resort, you MUST book a couples massage, because the spa experiences at this resort is nothing short of amazing!
My husband and I booked a couples massage and it was the best massage(s) we have ever had! You must arrive a full hour before your treatment to enjoy the full experience and be sure to bring your significient other or a friend. After our first massage, we booked another for later in the week and it was even better than the first.

A special thank you to our massage therapists, Suzanna and Santiago, for giving us the best deep tissue massages and swedish massages we have ever had!

Room Tip: Be sure to bookma king bed room.

We travelled to Mexico in December.
As soon as we walked through the doors into reception I knew I was going to enjoy my stay. We were greeted with a glass of champagne which was very nice after such a long flight from Manchester.
We could. to fault the hotel at all.
The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you.
We were spoilt for choice with restaurants, especially the French restaurant!
The hotel was spotless and all day long you would see staff constantly cleaning to keep to the hotels high standards.
Will definitely be returning to this hotel in the future!

I can only say good things about this hotel. We wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing to spend 10 days whilst also celebrating our first anniversary. The food was excellent in all the restaurants, Spice and Chez Isabelle in particular. Service was efficient and unbelievably friendly. So well maintained you'd think they never stop cleaning the place. Don't get me wrong, it says it's 5 star and it's not cheap so you'd expect everything it delivers but it was great. Been on a few all inclusive holidays now and this has been by far the best. If I had to give it some negatives, if you're looking for lively in anyway then this isn't the place for you. Usual cheesy hotel entertainment but it's wrapped up by 11.30 with the bars not staying open much later than that, however note that it does promote itself as a place to relax and recharge the batteries. Blue bar (swim up) is great for some music and beers mid to late afternoon though. Also it's a long old way from Cancun, about 30+ minutes so if you're looking at going in for a night of craziness (Coco Bongo is amazing!) a taxi will be $45ish dollars each way.

Final point - a proper mini bar in the room which is restocked every day including rum, vodka, tequila, wine, beers, soft drinks. That's how you do a mini bar!

Room Tip: We went for swim up and it was worth the extra. So convenient to have a sun lounger outside your roo...

This was our first 7 day stay at this resort and won't be our last! This resort was very clean, the grounds were impeccable, the staff was very friendly, the entertainment was better than most of the other resorts we've been to, the food and the service was excellent except we did have trouble at the Italian restaurant. Men had to wear long pants and shoes no flip flops. However we did see some guests that had gotten in anyway, it depended on the host or hostess. Also what was really nice compared to other all inclusive resorts we've stayed at was the only dinner reservation you had to make was for the hibachi grill. We highly recommend trying all the restaurants. Everyday at 11:00 they had craved out coconuts and filled them with a tropical drink on the beach!. If you didn't want to go to a restaurant for lunch they had Mexican buffet on the beach. They also had theme nights outside and you sat at round tables with other guests and enjoyed different food and drinks for that country being showcased. Perfect Vacation!

Room Tip: The beds were a little firm for us and the rubber sheets had to go!

My husband and I had a short 3 night stay at the Excellence the first week of May. We have stayed at two different Sandals properties so we were curious how a different all-inclusive would stack up. The Excellence was absolutely stunning. The grounds were perfectly manicured, the beach was very large with plenty of loungers or day beds (most of which even had shade!!), and the pools were crystal clear and wrapped around the whole property. We found our room to be plenty large with a very nice walk in shower and a double vanity, which is sometimes hard to find. However we had 2 double beds instead of a king. We had a large balcony with a very nice pool view. Ocean view rooms seemed few, but we were content with our view. The room was very clean and we always had clean towels and linens. The housekeeping staff brought around the next day weather forecast and schedule of events each night. Almost the entire staff seemed helpful, but not knowing any Spanish could create a little bit of a language barrier some of the time. We spent one whole day just lounging on the beach and there were plenty of people who would come around and take your drink orders and bring them back to you without ever having to leave your chair. The only negatives I can report about the Excellence, was that it is a little more "uptight" I suppose than a Sandals. One cannot attend dinner in shorts or flip flops. My husband wore dress pants and closed toe shoes each night while I wore a dress and dress shoes. While it does create a very elegant atmosphere, when the weather is still high 80s in the evening it is unfortunate to be sweating through your dinner. The Lobster House was very good, and don't miss the big Mexican Fiesta night complete with mariachi band and all the authentic Mexican food you can eat. The other downside was that the pool observed strict hours and closed at 8:00pm. When it is still so hot outside, and barely dark by 7:30pm, it would be nice to be able to stay in the pool or lazy river a while longer. This was puzzling to me considering it is an adults only resort and the pools are not deep. It was also difficult to find things that were open sometimes. The resort boasts 8 restaurants and 10 bars, but none of them are open at the same time. You may only have 2 lunch options and 4 or 5 dinner options some nights and maybe 3 bars open at a time. This led to long wait times both nights that we tried to eat in restaurants. The upside is 24 hour room service was available at no extra charge!! However, be prepared to wait at least 35 minutes. At other all-inclusives there is a no tip policy, however tipping is encouraged at the Excellence. Overall, I would recommend the resort, but maybe not to the younger crowd who are looking to stay out a little later than 8:00 at night.

Room Tip: Make sure to confirm your type of room before departure. Several people we spoke with had been bumpe...
