We spent two weeks at this beautiful property. We went for our twenty fifth wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful time. They have 8 restaurant and beautiful pools.Gorgeous white sand beaches.and a very amenable staff. Especially the entertainer staff (Karla and Sophia). All I can say is if are thinking of going is book you certainly won't be disappointed, we will be re-booking again for next year.

You know your stay is off to a good start when you walk into the resort and they say "Welcome home" and hand you a cool towel and a glass of champagne! Ahhh, you feel yourself starting to unwind and it only gets better from there. This was our 4th time to this resort after trying several other AI's in the area and concluding that everything we needed and loved was here at the Excellence. We really enjoy staying in the Excellence Club area and would recommend spending the extra as there are many perks to doing this. I would also highly recommend doing a spa treatment. The Spa is beautiful and is in experience in itself. We really enjoyed the Intensive Destress Couples Ritual for 100 minutes and if you like a deep massage ask for Ivan or Erik - you will not be disappointed. Each day they have specials on different treatments and you can save over $100 USD by taking advantage of these. We love the food at all the restaurants, but our favorites are Chez Isabelle, Spice, Agave, and Basmati. We always had friendly engaging wait staff and service was always timely, but not rushed. We also ordered room service for breakfast the last day we were there and wished we had done that earlier and more often. We had the most pleasant young man, Gilberto, deliver our meal and taught us some spanish while unloading our food. His presence, demeanor, kindness and attentiveness were all above the USA norm and this is true for many of the service staff at the resort. It is employees like this that help make this place special to us. Jenny and Allen at the Excellence Club do a great job of welcoming all that enter and are always there to help with anything you can need or want. A very special recognition to Moises and Jesus at the outside Excellence Club bar, Cielo. They work so hard to please everyone and do it with a smile and even a song at times. Moises has been there since we first started coming here and always remembers us with a hug when we come back. That certainly makes you feel special! Also, Lehdiy (not sure on the spelling but is pronounced like Lady) who floats around the many outside bars and inside the Excellence Club bar is a great new addition who is friendly, funny and a joy to talk with. One of our most favorite activities at this resort is yoga at the Spa with Ivan. He does not work at the resort, but they have him come to do classes every other day. He has his own yoga studio in Puerto Morelos and he is the real deal. You will get a work out with his class and will leave his class physically and mentally better than when you started. We are CrossFitters and Arturo, the Fitness Center director, did a great job with the Cross Fit Lite class we took with him. We hope they add more CrossFit classes in the future along with some bar bells and pull up bars. There are a variety of fitness classes offered most mornings and you can also run for miles on the beach, so staying active is not a problem. Of course, relaxing here is not a problem either! The pool and beach lounges are really comfortable and the beach is like white powder sugar. The ocean is warm, waves are usually fairly tame and it is fun to swim and play in as there are very few rocks or shells. If you want quite there are many places to find solitude, but if you want music and more party like feel you can find that as well. There is something here for everyone!

Room Tip: 3rd floor in the Excellence Club buildings = quiet rooms with great views

This is the 5th time at the excellance and I must say it is getting much better. The first three times there they were as the name says, but two years ago I wrote things were going down hill iwth the food and service. We were the the week of march 18 - 25 and the food was much better, but they closed the Barccelona for the supper and has put a stress on the other restaurants, so when there was almost no waite to get into a restaurant you now have about one hour no matter where you go.

To compare we stayed at the Secrets Silver Star the first week and found that the Excellence is by far the better place at less money. The food, service and clients were no where near as good.

The staff as always were great at the Excellence and would like to especially say that the person who was entertaining, provided the best service and just a great example of how staff should treat customer (he treated you as you were a freind rather then a customer) was Alfonzo, who ran a fun card game table daily. If you join the table you would be sure to be there every day...The best!!!

I must say that it was a good week, especially if you compare it to the Secrets, but it still needs a little improvement. We used to go to the Steak house and order a lobster tail form the ajoining Lobster House (they are outside and have ajoining kitchens) but this year the waiter said the new manager would not allow this any more. I don't know what the deal is because it is an all inclusive and I could just leave after the meal in the steak house and have another meal. So it seems that the management is in need of improvements.

All thing considered this was a much better experience then the last time I was there, even though I swore I would never return after my last experience.

Room Tip: if you are looking for a nice quite place with soft music playing while you are outside you room ask...

Just returned again from ERC, this was our 3rd visit. Since last year a number of new things, all for the good, covered area on beach for BBQ lunch where live bands play, spirits in standard suites including wine (can change up to 1 bottle of spirits per day to that of your choice), all will be replaced when used. Pizza oven by Sol bar for lunch.

In 2 weeks stay never had a bad meal, all excellent, never had to wait for place at our choice of restaurant in the evening, our favourites were Basmati (Indian), Chez Isabelle (French), Spice (Asian). In Spice restaurant did both 'normal' service which was fantastic and also once Hibachi, again great, no complaints at all, all wonderful. Chez Isabelle we visited 3 times including our last night where a special anniversary meal was laid on by Marianna Montes (customer services) including special cheese and wine delivered to our room, all brilliant made to feel very special...

We used room service twice, once for breakfast the eggs benedict fabulous, one evening meal we stayed in and had a great meal as good as any in the restaurant, nothing too much trouble and all for 24 hours per day, what more could you ask for?

Lunchtime lots of choice again, we mainly ate at the BBQ on the beach where live bands play, also tried Pizza by the pool, Oregano and the Lobster House, all fantastic, if you go in one of the 4 restaurants at lunch you need to cover up, otherwise you don't lots of choice.

The entertainment at ERC was fabulous from lunchtime through to after midnight, with a variety of bands, carribean, reggie, rock, ect also fabulous shows in the evening from 6.00pm onwards, the Michael Jackson show and the fire show were one of our favourites, some people think it should be a 2 week turnaround for the entertainment, it appears to be 7 days but probably more geared towards the Americans as they usually stay for shorter breaks, but no complaints.

It was lovely to see the friendly staff a few of whom we have seen last year and the first time we tried ERC. Pablo (Martini Bar & Blue Bar), such a character, fantastic sense of humour and great with the clients. Ramon (Barcelona) again great character and he remembered us from our 2 previous visits which is quite an achievement as he must see 100,000's people. Louis (Sol Bar) always a smile and great with the clients, remembering what your tipple is without being told.

People saving sun beds early in the morning then going away from them for more than 40 minutes will have their things packed up in a bag and removed to customer services where they will have to go and retrieve them and then find a new sunbed, this certainly seems to work. Some people saving a number of beds for different times of the day, which is unfair to those who can't locate one. It is surprising to see how many people get up so early.

All I can say is you are thinking of going is book you certainly won't be disappointed, we will be re-booking again for next year, if you were there when we were we'll see you again next year. I would say that the majority of clients are repeat customers about 60/40 so pick the phone up and get your credit card out and go to paradise.

My boyfriend and I just returned from our 6 night stay at ERC. It was our second trip to the area, and last year we stayed at Valentin Imperial Maya in Riviera Maya. The whole time we measured Excellence against Valentin and it did not measure up. While the beach, pool, and grounds are beautiful, the service is superb, and the food was really good, Excellence just did not have enough entertainment for us. No music at the pool, little energy, poor entertainment, few games. We are a young couple, and believe this resort to be much better suited for older crowds, not couples in their twenties or thirties (I am 25, my boyfriend is 30). However, it was very peaceful, relaxing, and comfortable and the service at the beach was great. If looking for an absolutely beautiful resort with a peaceful yet more fun environment, I would 100% recommend Valentin. We met other couples staying at Excellence who too shared they were much happier with their stay at Valentin over Excellence.

Room Tip: We stayed in the most basic, spa view room. While there was nothing wrong with it, if you can, I wou...

I spent a week here with my fiance in April and had a wonderful time. The rooms and grounds are very well kept and service was outstanding. Weather in April was PERFECT. Food was hit or miss, though. French restaurant was the best meal we had, and I wouldn't bother with the Lobster House. These are not your typical Maine lobsters, they are local rock lobsters. Not a lot of meat and not nearly as flavorful. Also you could only have spicy chipotle butter or garlic butter that was WAY overpowering. We asked for standard hot drawn butter and apparently they couldn't accommodate.

Room service was awesome, and usually pretty prompt. Drink service at the beach was great, and the beach itself is gorgeous. We did the ruins in tulum/snorkeling in Akumal one day, and a Catamaran cruise and beach dinner in Maroma another night. I would recommend both!

The room was great with one exception. Shower was huge and had great water pressure, and there was a ton of space to spread out and relax in the room. 2 of the tv channels are XXX, which was interesting. The mattress was awful - this is the big drawback to the place. It appeared to be 100 years old, super hard, and sounded like there was a plastic wrap covering. We checked to see if it could be removed, but no luck. I really wanted to like the place more, but having an uncomfortable bed makes it difficult.

This place is really everything it promises to be. Great staff, wonderful service, and just a great relaxing atmosphere. Definately worth spending the extra few $$$ on a pool suite in the excellence club. We found that because of the free alcohol being served from 9am onwards that around midday a good few people were getting quite intoxicated and loud, which was a shame. In the Excellence club it was quieter, and also you have a private part of the beach. The food service is great, although not all restaurants are as good. Basmati was great and also the lobster house. A plain steak can make a girl happy some times :-). The rooms are impeccable and well maintained. The pool suites are great. I cant really fault them on anything. Just Perfecto!

Room Tip: Get a pool access suite or go for the Excellence club
