My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon during the first week of June this year. We are both around the age of 30, and we did not go into this trip with any ridiculous ideas of the honeymoon. We wanted to find a nice place, with great service, great food, and a great room.....in actuality, we found so much more than that. We will be back, hopefully for several of our “big” anniversary years in the future. Here are some details:

The pools: We had great luck finding chairs and floats on a daily basis. There were plenty to go around most days. The pools themselves are very, very clean. They don't stink of chlorine or chemicals, but the water is soft and clean. Towels are available right by the pools, and there are so many areas with pools to choose from. The main pool has a swim up bar, and that pool was regularly busy, often with the younger crowds. They were by no means annoying or rowdy, but they were certainly having a great time and enjoying the bar. So for a little mingling with some new folks, that's a good place to start. If you looking for a quiet place to get some sun and read a book, I would recommend any of the other pools, which are usually really quiet and peaceful. And remember....no kids!!! It honestly makes all the difference.

The food: We hit all of the restaurants except the Indian place and the Mexican place. Many of the people we talked to around the resort said that their food was just OK, so we decided to steer clear. For breakfast, we hit the buffet (Barcelona restaurant I believe) in the mornings. We met with FANTASTIC service, great coffee, bloody mary's, mimosas, omelet stations, and a nice selection of all kinds of breakfast foods and breads.

Our favorite lunches were typically found at The Grille. This is a cool little open-air restaurant that has fantastic shrimp nachos, good fajitas, a pretty decent steak, and good burgers.

As far as dinners go, Spice was the Asian-theme restaurant, and it was some of the best food we had all week. The sushi was really good, as was the hibachi (which you have to make reservations for in advance....it was a lot of fun). The French restaurant was a total let-down. We got there for our “romantic dinner” as part of the honeymoon package, and unfortunately we were met with really poor service, and even worse food. My wife had the steak and after sending if back twice to try and get a proper cooking on it, we just got up and left after letting the staff know that we were disappointed. In addition to that, I ordered the Venison and it was also very bland. As far as food goes, that was our only negative experience. The lobster house was good, as was the Italian place....by the way, get the apple desert there! Room service was fast and delicious. The food, coffee, and drinks came fast and hot.

The service: Even with our one negative experience at the French restaurant, the service at this resort was amazing. Juan was our favorite waiter. He did a fantastic job of taking care of us, and if you are lucky enough to have him wait on you, I highly suggest leaving his a strong tip, trust me, he earns it.

The entertainment: Not bad. Not amazing, but not bad. According to some of our fellow travelers, they said that it was a lot better that most entertainment shows on cruises or at other all-inclusive resorts. It gives you something to do while enjoying an after-dinner drink or two.

The rooms: Very nice! Huge walk-in shower (7' X 5'). Stocked mini bar, comfortable bed. We stayed for 5 nights, and did nothing outside of relaxing around the resort, and we had an amazing time. I never felt bored, and there was always something fun to do. We hit the spa one day for a couples massage (2 hours long), watched a great sunrise over the beach, had some nice walks around the resort, met some really nice people, and found a new home-away-from-home.

We will be back!!!!

Room Tip: If you want to be away from the larger crowds, building #9 allowed for an ocean view and a pretty qu...

My husband and I spent a week from June 24-July 1 and celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary while there. We had stayed at several Secrets resorts in the past which we loved, but decided to try someplace new this year. And we're so glad we did! All the positive things that have been mentioned are true. It's a wonderful resort and you should not hesitate to book here. We did not opt for a club room and were perfectly happy. We stayed in 3308 had a beautiful pool/spa view on the top floor. Very quiet area too. Service is excellent, food wonderful, rooms lovely, and pools are great. I advised them when I made the reservation that we would be celebrating our anniversary and brought along a copy of our wedding certificate to verify the date. All of the staff went out of their way to make it a special week. Our special thanks to our favorite waiters Samuel and David at Toscana who the night before our anniversary had the chef make up a special dessert with our name and "Happy 32nd Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. We were very surprised and very appreciative. Then at our anniversary dinner at Agave the chef made a special appetizer plate with many delicious choices. Again totally unexpected but very very appreciated. Even Jose our pool waiter made up special drinks when he found out it was our anniversary. Let them know if you are celebrating a special occasion. It's worth it. I can't say enough about the staff.....excellente! The spa has specials every day and we did the 80 minute couples massages and they were amazing. Our masseuses Margarita and Suzanna were the best we've ever had! One last thank you to Rosalia Maca the Guest Services Manager. We appreciate all you did for us. We will definitely return to Excellence as soon as we can. It's paradise!

We are return guests of Excellent Resorts, however this was our first time to stay at ERC, we previously stayed at EPM in December of 2008 & February of 2011. We decided to try ERC on this past trip and we were not disappointed.

Check in was very smooth & efficient, with the usual glass of sparkling wine and cool wash cloth. We arrived around noon and our room was not ready so we had lunch and enjoyed the pool. We booked a Jr. Suite over looking the pools & spa and I believe we were up graded, we were given a room in building 7a overlooking the pool with an oceanview. We were celebrating our Anniversary and they placed a banner on the door, fresh fruit & sparkling wine, and towel art on the bed with rose petals in the room waiting for us, very thoughtful.

The staff were all very pleasant and most helpful, our room was serviced twice a day, house keeping was very good and responsive, our mini fridge was stocked daily. Loved the M&Ms.

The restaurants were great, all of our meals were wonderful. We had our anniversary dinner at the French restaurant and they had rose pedals on the table & sparkling wine, our meal was very good. I had the venison & my husband enjoyed the sea bass. We also enjoyed the Indian restaurant & the Lobster house. The wait staff did an excellent job at all the restaurants.

I will say I enjoyed the beach here much more than EPM, it is very walkable in both directions, and seemed to have a little less sea grass. We had no problem finding chairs in the shade. The pools are beautiful and very clean. We spent mornings at the beach & late afternoon at the pool. We never had a problem finding a raft in the late afternoon.

We enjoyed the hotel's bike tour and do suggest going but it is not for those out of shape. There were plenty of activities all day with beach volleyball, water activities, dance and Spanish lessons, etc.

We look forward to a return visit to ERC in the near future!

We are just back from a 6 night family vacation. Yes it is adults only but my youngest is 18 and roomed with her sister and new brother-in-law. It was a fun way to family bond. The rooms can certainly accommodate 3-5 with no problem. The living space was great for family gaming a pizza parties. The shower area is the best ever. No problem with foggy mirrors and plenty of hot water. The beds were comfy and nice. Plus reading lights make hanging out a pleasure. We didn't use the spa tub but if giving the opportunity I'm sure it would of been relaxing. The pools were great, not too noisy or populated. Getting a float was not easy. But no problem finding chairs or towels or a server for endless drinks. The beach was clean and there were plenty of chairs and shady huts at all hours of the day. No need to claim your spot early. The water itself was not crystal clear but not filled with black seaweed as was the beach further north. There were plenty of fun activities day and night such as food demos and beach volleyball. Everything was clean and staff was super friendly. We have to compare this to their neighbor the Dreams Resort because we stayed there last year. Excellence matches their room luxury, resort cleanliness and helpful staff. Excellence has more to do such as yoga and tennis. Excellence drinks were better (more alcohol and less sugar). And although Excellence could improve on the quality of nightly entertainment it beat out Dreams. Here is the BIG BUT, Dreams wins for food quality. Dreams is 5 star at every meal at every restaurant. Excellence is a 2-3. Excellence really needs to lift the bar in taste. The variety and presentation were there but our meals were very disappointing. The meals were either flavorless or had extreme adverse texture or flavors. The breakfast buffet was filling but the fruits were bland, the juices room temp, the pancakes rubbery. They did do breads very nicely. I opted to toast an artisan bread, top it with smoked salmon, cheese and a poached egg. But I had to be my own creative chef to do this. Lunch at the grill was soggy string fries that went uneaten and a Ruben? I put the ? because it was more a ham and cheese sandwich that was unremarkable. Again the buffet offered variety but the roast beef was chewy, the fruit was under ripe, the focchia was wonderful. We eat dinner at most of the restaurants. Stay clear of the lobster house. Worst meal ever. From appetizers to dessert it was terrible. We left there and ate Oreos and chips back in our rooms that's how bad it was. The Mexican restaurant had nice guacamole but the meal was bland and skip the dessert, so not worth the calories. This was such an upscale facility that we were expecting the food to be worth the price. It was not. If you enjoy great food opt for Dreams until Excellence raises the bar in all of its food service.

My husband and I are big fans of Iberostar's grande line of hotels and try to find places that offer the same level of service. The Excellence delivered. From the moment you walk in, everyone who works there tries to make sure you have an excellent time! I particularly liked receiving the Excellence Times at turn down. We always knew what was happening at the resort! I celebrated my birthday during our stay and we came back from the nightly show to a room decorated with balloons and streamers and a birthday cake! The couples massage at the spa was pricey (but we got 30% off) But very nice. The only negative we saw was the rock hard bed! The room was slightly older but our travel agent had told us the resort was older so we were not surprised. The grounds and pools are very well kept.

My wife and I just got back from this resort on July 2, We decided to stay at this resort as two years ago we stayed at excellence punta cana and that was a nice resort and had good service. Well it turned out that at Excellence Reviera Cancun, we got the best service ever and the property and rooms are clean and well looked after. The resaurants are all very good, but Basmati(Indian) and Chez Isabel (French) were our favourites.
The weather was not agreable at first, but by mid-week it was much better.
Although all the staff at this resort was friendly and always eager to help, our thanks and gratitued goes out to the Chief Consierge, Karla Fernandez, who with her charm, good hurmour and little perks made our experience at Exellence Reviera Cancun a memorable one. Both my wife and myself agree that this was the best service that we ever got anywhere. We always stay at four or five star resorts. Thanks Karla, and we will definetely be seeing you again.
