“Zoetry does it right...”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

Zoetry was a great choice for a long weekend anniversary getaway. We were only there for 4 days so it's proximity to the airport was a definite plus.

The resort is more Indonesian than Mexican in it's design, but is still very beautiful with lots of special little details. The layout of Zoetry is unique from many hotels that are built back from much less ocean frontage. Being spread out along the beach can mean a bit more walking but also means that every room is oceanfront - we had a luxurious 2nd floor suite with a beautiful view of the ocean. If the bed would have faced the ocean, it would have been perfect.

I would recommend arranging activities early as spots seem to fill up fast. We weren't able to participate in the tequila tasting and only got on a sunset cruise because another couple didn't show up - unfortunately it was a very brief trip because the catamaran's engine caught fire shortly after we left the dock.

Food, drinks and service were all good. We enjoyed eating outside at Kaax - especially breakfast! Great coffee and Mimosas beside the ocean with harp music in the background - what could be better than that? Wasn't crazy about eating inside at Kaax, the food was good, but it felt a little cold and not at all intimate - maybe they could do something with the lighting. At lunch the sushi and ceviche bar was outstanding; found the service at the beach grill slow but the food was fine; ate poolside a few times which was nice. La Canoa for dinner was elegant, but get there early enough to get a table on the patio or a booth.

The beach isn't the nicest. A nice long beach is usually high on my priority list when planning a trip, but it was very windy when we were there and we spent all of our time by the pool so the beach wasn't an issue. The pool was wonderful with a view of the ocean, never had a problem getting our choice of lounger and the someone was always nearby to get you a drink, umbrella, or food.

Zoetry is very quiet, but that was exactly what we wanted - this may be more of an issue had we stayed longer than 4 days and if we had traveled with friends. Speaking of quiet, I do wish that this was an adults only resort. There were only a few children when we were there, and while they were well behaved, the volume level of their fun did sometimes ruin the peace during the day.

Zoetry does many things right, and the little details make all the all the difference - the private transfer from the airport complete with cold towels and champagne, complimentary bottles of champagne and tequila, the beach bag waiting in your room (how many times have you forgotten to pack yours?), free laundry service, free international phone calls and wifi (important when you're taking time away from a business), Bvlgari toiletries, the parrots, tea time, the harpist in the morning, they even wrote a kind message on a cake for us on our last night there!

This review is late in coming - another anniversary is almost here. But we will definitely be back - not this year as we have other plans, but definitely soon.

Don't you just love when people use the "but" word?

Spent 6 days at this great boutique resort just north of Puerto Morales. As most reviewers have stated, the private airport pickup was fantastic. We were met immediately upon exiting the terminal and escorted to our waiting Mercedes SUV. We were given cool towels & champagne for the brief, 20 minute ride. Upon arrival we were greeted and escorted to the concierge desk. Check-in took only minutes. Our room wasn't ready yet (as expected, as we arrived at noon). We were advised that Corporate had decided, due to low occupancy, to close Kaax and do a planned renovation. This disturbing fact immediately reduced the number of dinner venues by 33%. This was not good news & I was not happy to hear this. I was assured that in order to accommodate the guests, a patio buffet would be served each night (changing menus) in front of Kaax. Sorry, but I didn't choose Zoetry to eat dinner buffets. Anyway, we proceeded to settle in with a pleasant lunch. After lunch we were escorted to the Spa to change clothes while we waited for our room to be ready.

Our suite (Khiva) was ready around 2pm. We were shuttled by golf cart to our suite. Upon entering the suite, we saw a great view of the beach/ocean beyond our second floor balcony. While the suite was roomy, fuctional and as advertised, the furniture was too Mayan for our taste. The living room couch cushions were very firm & straight and the seat cushions had a sewn on woven applique made of very coarse and uncomfortable threads. I likened it to putting the cheapest, coarsest label on the collar of a $100 shirt. Made the entire couch uncomfortable. The desk chair was a 10" wide wooden seat attached to a narrow back paddle. The television was located very high above the enclosed bar & refrigerator and did not swivel. There were only 7-8 channels in English. We found several small lizards climbing around the walls and ceilings. Figured that they probably got into the room under the entry door (1" space) or over the entry door (1 1/2" space). The balcony was outfitted with a small table and 2 chairs & a double cushioned lounger located adjacent to the rail planter which housed several colonies of ants. There was no awning or roof over the balcony so the cushions remained damp for several days after the rain. The sliding door threshold to the balcony was about 6 inches high. We tripped over it several times during the first couple days. The sleeping area was divided by a heavy drapery. This drapery could be closed using the curtain rod rope. It was semi-light proof but not at all sound proof. As stated by many previous reviewers, the bed is HIGH off the floor. It was a little too firm, but comfortable. Once again the non-swivel television was located too high on the wall storage cabinet. An old trunk sat at the end of the bed and served to store the decorative bed cover and pillows, which were removed the first night and never replaced. It also served as a obstacle when heading to the bathroom at night. OUCH! The bathroom was separated by a mirrored, sliding door. The main clothes closet, shelves and safe were housed in this area. Our clothes always had a slight damp feel, which was caused by the dampness of the bathroom and the leaking shower into the closet. After each shower we would find a puddle of water under the shelf holding the safe. Black mold was visible along the closet base. Our bathroom configuration was not as per photos. While we had the sunken tub and it's adjacent, enclosed garden, our shower was not next to it. Our toilet room was located here, with a nice view of the garden. Our shower was located where the toilet rooms were depicted. It was narrow and a little too dark. The shower water temperature varied from tepid to scalding (typical of Mexican showers).
Housekeeping was good (not very good or great). Sand from the beach remained on the floor all week. Missed turn-down 2 nights (no biggie), but could have used some fresh towels.

OK...........THE BUT! The food at the resort was basically ok. Besides the fact that the Italian buffet, which we ate the first night, was setup nicely, the food was cold. We were served pre-cooked steak (less than 1" thick), cold pasta (intended to be hot), cold tortilla soup and under cooked mussels with seafood. Needless to say, that was our first and last dinner buffet. With Kaax being closed, it really limited the dining choices. We dined at La Canoa 3 times. Each time we were treated with great service and wonderful food. But not once did they offer anything different from their standard menu. We dined at the outdoor grill one evening and were the insects' entrée. The rib-eye steak was more fat than meat. We chose to go to Secrets Maroma one evening for a change. (Would have preferred Secrets Silver Sands, which is only 5 minutes away, but concierge said they had no openings?) After a 25 minute, $65.00 round trip taxi ride, we were TREATED to a fabulous meal at Bordeaux. The selections were great, the service was excellent and the house cab was good. Speaking of house wine, when are the likes of Zoetry going to stop chiseling on wine? The Reds offered were from Mexico & Chile. The Mexican Red should be made into vinegar while the Chilean Red was just palatable. They offer truly top spirits at all of the bars and crap wine. I just don't get it. The Dubois sparkling wine is good. And they do not hesitate to serve you a full bottle in your suite or at your beach/pool lounge chair. This is a very nice touch.

Lunch can be served at your lounge if you request it. We did this several times to avoid a 1-1 1/2 hour lunch. Even if you request it, you will not be rushed to eat at the restaurants.

The chef prepared specialty lunchtime snacks (chicken/shrimp kabobs, paella, & sausages) at the pool for 3 days, then not again. Go figure?

First time I've been to a Riviera Maya all-inclusive and haven't seen any lobster on the menu or grilled by the pool. What's with that?

Service here was second to none! The service staff is why I still gave the resort 4*. The wait staff is the best I've ever experienced in an all-inclusive resort. From the gardeners to the golf cart drivers to the housekeepers.......everyone always had a smile and "no" doesn't exist in their vocabulary. And no one is looking for a tip but..................TIP!

The beach was kept as clean as possible with the seaweed rake truck making several passes each day. Not the best beach in the world but good.

While the fact that "FREE" phone calls back to the USA from your room is a nice perk, it would help if the phones worked. For almost 2 days (on and off) there was no phone service at the resort. It made ordering room service, requesting golf cart pickup and calling home impossible. The only explanation was that the technicians were working on it. It could have been a real issue if someone needed medical assistance and couldn't reach the front desk. Come on...it's 2014. This kind of thing shouldn't happen.

There is a pharmacy on the highway in Puerto Morales that is open 24/7 and will deliver anything you need for $14US.

Besides the lost food venue (Kaax), the most disturbing issue was the lack of concern by Management. We spoke to Raphael on three occasions about the food concerns and each time he assured us he was the "Eyes & Ears" of the General Manager, yet the GM didn't feel it was important enough to leave his office to seek us out until 15 minutes before we left for the airport. This left a bad taste in my mouth. As my wife was waiting for the porter to deliver me and our bags to the lobby, the GM approached her and wanted to know what he could do for her. For 6 days nothing..........then 15 minutes before leaving he wanted to make his presence known. Well sorry...........too little, too late. Management gets a "D", Staff gets an "A"! Resort gets 4* NOT 5*.

If, as stated by the GM, they are adding another restaurant to the property, I would consider returning to Zoetry. But I only do this so that I could once again experience the happiest, friendliest and greatest service-oriented staff in the Riviera Maya region. You all deserve a raise!

Room Tip: Upper rooms have better views. Ground floor rooms have cold pools.

Dear almtyrob2,

It is a pleasure to read through such a detailed overview of your visit to Zöetry Paraiso de la Bonita. We sincerely appreciate the time invested on writing this review

We decided the renovation to give our customer a safer and better experience with Kaax restaurant. And we also anticipate this will be an inconvenience for our entire guests; which is why we have theme nights not only a buffet. Our guests, really like La Canoa restaurant and we have some of them, decide to dinner the majority of the nights. If you would like something new, ask our professional and amazing chef. You will be surprise.

We hope to have the honor of welcoming you back, allowing us the opportunity of providing you a truly wonderful and memorable experience.

We just returned from a fabulous 4 day getaway at Zoetry. Escaping the freezing cold and snow was our main objective! This was our first visit to this lovely resort and it will not be our last. Our driver was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived. A pristine Mercedes van with chilled sparkling wine and cold towels were awaiting us. Impressive and a great way to start a vacation.
Zoetry is only a 20 minute drive from Cancun airport. Our check in was swift and easy. We were given a tour of the resort and then taken to our room. The room was spacious, clean fully stocked with fresh fruit, champagne on ice and all the usual amenities at a 5 star resort. We were on the second floor with a wonderful view of the beach. Our room was across from the tennis courts. I liked the fact we were a bit further away from the main part of the resort. We like to walk. If you don't like walking, they will send a golf cart to whisk you to where you want to go. This is not a large property. 90 rooms. Adults only.......Well not exactly, there were a few children in attendance when we were there. However, they were very well behaved. It does say no children under the age of 16 years old. Not sure why anyone would bring small children to a resort like this.
The staff at Zoetry is wonderful. Everyone is so nice, they cannot do enough for you. Oscar, our "guy" at the pool was outstanding! I did not use the spa, went for a walk through. Very nice and clean but the prices are on the high side. We were not there for a spa experience on this trip, maybe next time. Other guests who used the spa told us it was very nice. There is a list of all the activities offered everyday. It I left in your room every night after evening turn down service. You can do it all or do nothing, no pressure or rah rah like you would get at mega all inclusive resorts. Our choice was to relax by the pool and veg, walking on the beach and planning our next drink choice:)
The food was really great. Worthy of many 5 star restaurants we have been to. However, service in the restaurants is spotty. Management is aware of this issue. It really does need to be addressed. The wait staff and the kitchen are not on the same page. This does need to be resolved. Really that is my only complaint. Staff is friendly and eager to please. We do tip our servers. Some people have different views on this when it comes to all inclusive resorts. Our feelings on this differ from others. We tip, we are taken care of and everyone is happy. Looking forward to returning to Zoetry in the future.

Room Tip: The beds are high, if you are short , you may need a step stool:)

Excellent trip, great place, great service, loved Gabriella the Yoga instructor, went 4 out of the 5 mornings we were there. The beach, pool and wait staff treated so well. Wanted someplace to unwind and be pampered. I highly recommend Zoetry.

We just returned from a most relaxing 8 day vacation. Upon being met at the airport, our driver immediately popped a bottle of chilled champagne which we sipped on the way to the resort. This set the tone for our entire stay. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and simply could not do enough for us. We were in an oceanfront suite with a plunge pool, although we did not use the pool because the water was too chilly.

The food ranged from good in some instances to superb in others, but never anything to complain about. We especially enjoyed the soups and the lamb chops were excellent. The included wines were not a disappointment as is often the case at all-inclusives. We splurged on special wine only for a couple of dinners.

The pool and surrounding area were magnificent with constant bar and food service.

Two negatives. We spent only one day on the beach because chairs were unavailable. There are several cabanas but someone always parked their belongings on them and kept them for the entire day, although they were often unoccupied. There should be a system for reserving them for a period of time. The only other complaint is that the resort seems barricaded from the beach with dense tropical plantings. From the resort and ground level rooms, the only view of the Caribbean was of the horizon with no view of the beach itself. Although we were ocean front, we could hardly see the ocean and could not walk from our suite onto the beach. When we stayed at Zoetry in Punta Cana, our favorite feature was direct access from our suite onto the beach.

All in all, we enjoyed our time here and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: I would suggest a second or third floor accommodation to have a better view of the ocean.

My husband and I
just returned from a wonderful weeklong vacay @ Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita. It was more than we ever expected, we absolutely fell in love with this place and are counting the days until we can return! The hotel, staff, spa, and food were great. When we first arrived our suite was not ready, but they had a hospitality suite ready so we could drop our luggage off and change into our swimsuits or just relax after our flight. The resort is so beautiful, the pictures just don't do it justice! Our getaway vacay turned into a second honeymoon. Now to mention the staff--we were pampered and taken care of every minute. We can't imagine ever staying anywhere else after this trip. We want to extend thank you's to Eduardo Agras Fitch who was our UVC member services concierge; Sergio at front desk; Mario-our driver; George from the spa; Bob-dive master; Advel, Ricardo, and Enrique-waiters; and to Oscar, Luis, and Pepe our pool and beach waiters who set our chaises at the pool and beach everyday, and kept us happy with yummy cocktails! Honestly, the staff and even the behind the scenes staff we didn't see were the best we have been around. We just can't say enough great things about Zoetry, thanks everyone who made our vacay extra special!!

This is a little late on the review but defiantly needs to be posted. My boyfriend and I work so much we needed a vacation away from the busy New York life and Zoetry was the perfect place for this. A little skeptical of going to Mexico, this was both our first time there, I can not stress enough that they took care of us. From the time we arrived at the airport in Cancun, Maximo(driver) awaited us there with open arms and some drinks! The resort was top notch. There was more people on the staff attending to our every needs than there was people staying at the hotel. By the second day Juan, had our towels and beach cabana ready for us with out drinks! If you are looking for a vacation that is quick to get too and the staff waits on you hand and foot. Zoetry is the resort for you!

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the third floor because you get stunning views of the beach and sunrises :)
