“Awesome resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

I just returned from Mexico after spending a week at this resort. It was the best place in terms of friendly staff, food , and amenities I have experienced in some time. Management of the resort are present at all times and the attention to detail is impressive. Best place on MAyan coast! Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Go withba swim up suite or Ocean front suite!!!

. This resort is only about a 20-minute drive from the airport. Our stay exceeded our expectations from start to finish. It was great to be able to order room service any time of he day. The rooms had modern furniture with an ironing board, iron, magnifying mirror, whirl pool tub, and two televisions. The balcony had a spacious round bed to sit on and enjoy the view, which ours had a view of the ocean and pool area. especially liked having a digital safe in the room. The "rain shower" was great and we liked having 2 sinks.. A pack and play portable crib was provided in our daughter-in-law's room. The rooms were cleaned each day and each night the beds were turned down, candies left and the rooms were fragranced with the scents we chose upon arrival. The king-sized beds were just the right firmness and we liked being able to choose memory foam type pillows. The staff were exceptional. They would deliver drinks for the children and adults at a minute's notice. The puppet show and dance program for the little ones was great fun for the adults as well as the children. The only criticism I have is that we were not given an itinerary of what entertainment was available each night so we wonder if we had missed some because we were unaware of it happening. The pools were so clean and towels were always available there as well as well as near the beach. This is an excellent vacation for parents and grandparents because of the cleanliness, great staff, convenience of location, excellent food, and entertainment available

There was quite a lot to like about this property. It is well located, small, well managed, and the beach is very nice. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We did change rooms because of renovation noise, but the beautiful room they put us in was not as conveniently located and had absolutely no view. The resort is definitely more for young families than for older couples like us, but we didn't mind the children and they were, for the most part, very well behaved.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013

We stayed a week at the end of January traveling with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren ages 14 months and 4 years. We chose this resort after visiting it in January 2012 and being given a very thorough tour by Melissa (who was also there to greet us on arrival). We enjoyed seeing her smiling face again and her many helpful recommendations were much appreciated. This resort is only about a 20-minute drive from the airport. Our stay exceeded our expectations from start to finish, including the wet towels and champagne on arrival. Our daughter's family traveled separately and didn't arrive until around 9:45 pm but their arrival was as enjoyable and efficient as ours, with chocolate milkshakes for the children. It was great that once they were checked in, they could order room service.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable with plenty of closet space. We especially liked having a digital safe in the room. The "rain shower" was great and we liked having 2 sinks. A hair dryer and magnifying mirror were also available in the room. A pack and play portable crib was provided in our daughter's room. It was a pleasure to enter the rooms as they were cleaned each day and each night the beds were turned down, candies left and the rooms were fragranced with the scents we chose upon arrival. The king-sized beds were wonderfully comfortable and we liked being able to choose our favorite memory foam type pillows.

The grounds at the resort are very well kept. The numerous pools were always clean and beach towels were available in abundance, both on the beach and at the pools. The public restroom areas were the cleanest of any we have ever encountered. All personnel at the resort are very helpful and friendly. Although we were lucky enough to have a beach bed almost every day, we are happy to read that the lottery system is being phased out and will return to first-come, first served. The beach beds are great if you are visiting with small children as it gives them an opportunity to get out of the sun. The sand on the beach is very smooth.

The variety and selection of food here is fantastic, from the ample breakfast buffet with made to order omelettes to the sushi river in Tainan. We especially liked the churros dessert at Latino and the rocca at Chil. The children's menu was much appreciated and so was the fact that the Fisher Price booster chairs were always cleaned, wrapped and available for use. La Mancha snack bar always has fresh cookies, fruit and our grandson's favorite - pink marshmallows! Service in the restaurants is outstanding. Our favorite was Salvadore (at Blue for breakfast and Chil for lunch) who went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and more. My husband and I had a romantic dinner on the beach one evening , served by Adam, which was truly amazing.

The entertainment here is varied, with options for both the grownups (casino night and tequila bar) and families. Our favorite was the Magic Show. There was a fire show on the beach one night and music at the Aquanox bar. We enjoyed Jenga and bingo at the Aquanox bar during the day and there was a particulary cute puppet show for the children one day.

If you are grandparents and are planning a special family vacation with young children we would highly recommend this resort for a wonderful time.

Having stayed at a Karisma Azul property in the past (Sensatori), I was not surprised to find, upon arrival and stay at Azul Beach, that the Karisma standards of exceptional hospitality and customer service were upheld beyond expectation.

From check-in to check-out, Peter Hechler and his staff did their very best to ensure that the needs of guests are taken care of.

Originally booked in a deluxe room, my partner and I were upgraded to a suite before even arriving. Curious to see what a deluxe room was like, I asked for a tour. Granted, the deluxe rooms were not as spectacular or big as those in the new part of the hotel – BUT – they looked comfortable and came with the best views of the ocean/gardens! A block of deluxe rooms was being refurbished during our stay and we were fortunate to be able to take a look at a few of the finished rooms. They looked quite nice – not a suite – but still very nice.

Food/restaurants were incredible! Everything from the décor to the presentation of the food to the taste – engaged all senses. Someone in our group has an allergy to gluten. At every meal, at every restaurant, the chef made an appearance to personally suggest what might be prepared for my friend.

Grounds – very well kept/groomed. Pools were clean – only 1 heated – but the other pools were just fine without heat.

Service – Azul Beach excels at customer service and staff work long hours to make sure guests enjoy their stay.

Recommendations – Try rocca at Chil for lunch; make sure to stop by the La Mancha for a Xel Ha smoothie; have at least 1 mudslide made by Jorge (swim up bar by heated pool) and visit Vassa for a massage or other treatment. The SPA is nice. Irma and Rocio were incredible!

Suggestions to Hotel – really can’t think of anything except to suggest that you consider installing more hooks to hang towels, wet bathing suits in the rooms. Our suite had 1 hook just outside the shower and 1 towel rack – again outside the shower. Also, the closet area where the safe was good also benefit from more light – hard to see.

To the general manager, Peter, and staff – THANK YOU! We will see you, again, for sure!

After much research on various family resorts, we decided on the Azul Beach based on reviews we had read. We stayed for 1 week at the end of January with our 1 yr old. We were in a Family suite, which was really spacious, modern and very clean (although the walls are quite thin). I had contacted the GM prior to arrival to request some baby amenities in the room, and everything was there as requested, except for a wood crib, which I had to hunt down over the next 3 days (that was a bit of a pain!). The GM, Peter Hechler, was truly wonderful and very customer service-oriented. He knew we were celebrating my baby's 1st birthday and since the front desk had mixed up the date, he made sure there was a little party for my son in the Kid's Club a few days later, which was a really nice touch. The Kid's Club had a ton of toys for kids of all ages, and I was impressed with the number of infant/ baby toys there. We were there during Superbowl and they put on a great party by the pool with a good spread.

Food - Excellent, we are big-time foodies and good food is very important to us when on vacation. I can honestly say, we had some of the best meals in the restaurants we've ever had! So nice that no reservations required for dinner, you could just walk into any restaurant and be seated pretty quickly. Plenty of Fisher price high-chairs and booster seats in every restaurant that are cleaned after each use and the tray wrapped up for the next baby. One comment that we heard from other families as well: the majority of restaurants don't open for dinner until 6pm (their time), and our baby goes to sleep at 7pm (EST) so it would have been nice for the restaurants to open earlier, ie. 5pm to cater to those with youngsters that go to bed early. Also, while we were there, they had a special Mexican dinner menu that occurs just once a week, it would be nice if this menu were offered more often as the few dishes we tried were awesome and we wanted to order from that Mexican menu on other nights.

Service - Excellent, the people working at this small resort really enjoy interacting with families and were always happy to help. On a few occasions, the breakfast hostess at Blue (sorry, I can't recall her name) picked up our baby and walked around with him to let us finish our meal. She was awesome and so friendly!! We had a leak in our room one day coming from another room and maintenance was there immediately to correct the situation, a concierge even showed up to make sure everything was OK and that none of our stuff got damaged.

Hotel grounds - Excellent, very well-maintained, tropical and modern at the same time. We saw workers cleaning the hotel grounds, restaurant windows, floors, etc. constantly.

Beach - OK, this was probably the only let-down at the resort. Go there knowing the beach has seaweed and seagrass that the resort does try to clean up, but the seaweed is constant and seems to get worse as the day goes on. The water is a beautiful turquoise and beach has soft white sand, but it's not a pristine beach that you can walk along easily like you would find in other places in the Caribbean, ie. Aruba, D.R.

Pools - Very Good, we spent time in the pool by Bubbles bar, where ALL the families seemed to gather since it's the only heated one. It would be nice if at least one of the other pools by the beach were heated so that you could see the ocean, and wouldn't be so crowded. These pools were nice to look at, but too cold to actually get into, esp. for babies.

If you are considering Azul Beach for your family vacation, look no further.... you will have a wonderful time and great food, as we did!

We stayed at Azul during the Christmas holidays and found our stay to be so so. First I will state the positives, our room was very clean, the food was wonderful and the pools were a lot of fun. For the negatives once we reached the resort we were NOT given the room we booked. We were very upset by this but were told there was nothing the resort could do. Also, the woman making the fresh juice shakes should be wearing gloves. Very yucky to see her touching raw fruit to put in a blender withought gloves!! One other thing we definately did not appreciate is the way the beach bed lottos are done!!! Very unfair and you see ppl that have a beach bed ALL week. This is the silliest system and I dont understand why not let clients reserve their own bed....perhaps it is done so the beach buttlers are given hidden tips for reservation?!?!?!?
