“Great for nature lovers”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

We spent 3hrs just wandering around enjoying the unspoiled beauty of the gardens.I say gardens but it's more of a jungle/woodland.Mosquito repellent is a must-don't miss anywhere or you will get bitten. Not suitable for anyone who is unsteady on their feet or for buggies/wheelchairs. Take time to look closely and you will find lots of insects, bugs, beetles as well as loads of butterflies which are prolific in Mexico-I just wish they would stay still long enough to photograph! If you have a head for heights climb the towers and cross the hanging rope bridge from where you are in the canopy and can get a better look for the birds and monkeys(if you are lucky). I think it cost approx. £7.50 entry and can be reached by the local buses making it a cheap excursion. We seemed to be the only ones there which was great-I can't see it ever being busy as no-one seems to know it exists. I would imagine children being a bit bored and there are no shops or refreshments so take your own drinks and a snack. We asked our Thomas Cook rep to phone and ask about prices, times etc.as we don't speak Spanish.I think I have the tel.no. somewhere so feel free to email me for any other details.

“Must Do”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This was an unexpected treat for us. There was nobody in the park, so we really enjoyed the jungle environment. You can climb to treetops, see lots of monkey families, enjoy the birds and..... oh yes, realize the value of insect spray (Off! cream). The entrance fee was very reasonable and it wasa great learning experience that we will not forget.

“Great place to visit but remember insect repellant.”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

We went to visit the gardens on a whim so didn't take insect repellant with us. We had a lovely time there.
We only saw one other family. We did like having the gardens all to ourselves but couldn't understand why.
There is a lot to see and we enjoyed learning about the Mayan peoples history.
I would highly recommend a visit.

“A Nice way to spend a morning or afternoon”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

We spent about three memorable hours at the Botanical garden. The trails are well marked, maintained and easy for a comfortable hike through a variety of habitats. They had lots of collections of plants. Everything was well labeled easy to understand. We loved the apiary and the view from the towers and swinging bridge and just being in a different landscape. It was off the road enough that you don't hear the highway traffic. We saw lots of lovely old iguanas, some nice butterflies and had a few good bird sightings.

It's an easy 20 minute walk along the east side of the highway from the big intersection. Just take the collectivo and walk from the Colonia. We took a taxi there but walked back to the Colonia after our visit (taking the taxi was not necessary). Not one mosquito for our visit.

It's nice to support local environmental initiatives.
