We went to dreams riviera cancun for 3 weeks which included my wedding which was on the beach. Myself my wife and my 3 children aged 2/7/10 booked 2garden view rooms and requested that these be adjoining rooms. On our arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded for free to the preferred club and was in the honeymoon room. Unfortunately we had to turn this down due to no adjoining room. The staff seemed genuinely disappointed that they couldn't give us the best room but then placed us in a ocean facing rooms with jacuzzi on the balcony. Big smiles all round so far! During our stay we went to both the beach and the 3 pools. The beach was just amazing, the water was clear and blue unless it was choppy but this is only natural as the sand gets pushed up. The sea weed as described in other reviews is actually sea grass and is Small blades of grass scattered around. This wasn't a problem for my family and we loved the beach. The staff from the beach bar are simple fantastic and hard working. A drink is given to you at you sun lounger about every 15 mins which is more that enough for any person. The sand is white and clean and the choice of sun beds is plenty. The pool area is great too. The 3 pools range from the activities pool with volleyball and a couple of basketball hoops a child's pool and a infinity pool with swim up bar. Around the pool is a pizza bar, a grill and also another drinks bar. These are all great. The swim up bar is good but does get busy with some people who are unable to cope with all inclusive drinks. Life guards are on hand and to be honest are quite strict (A good thing).
The restaurants are great. The world cafe is good for breakfast but not good for dinner. This isn't a problem as the other restaurants at the resort are very good. All the staff are very helpful and don't expect any tips. I would suggest that manors go a long way at this resort and a simple please and thank you work wonders. I was lucky enough to get married here which was at the end of my 2nd week. ELISA in the weddings team worked tirelessly to make sure it was everything we wanted its just a shame that our uk based weddings team at virgin were complete crap and that ELISA had to rectify there errors. The day was out of this world with us having a meal on the beach as the sun went down. One of my daughters had a ear infection in the 1st week. The doctor was great and provided all the relevant care instantly. Great service.
The rooms are very nice and the cleanliness of the whole resort is second to none.
The only problems that I had with this resort were the entertainment team around the pool can be very annoying. 1 guy was very pushy and rude. They appeared to think that everyone needed to get Up and dance with them and that they were providing a wonderful service. This was not the case. The entertainment at night would have been better but it's placement was a little off. The shows were on the main stairway to the huge reception area. This wasn't a good place for this and I felt it could be better placed maybe near the pool area.

My 2 girls went to the kids club whenever they wanted and loved it. You get given a buzzer when your children want picking up or if there are any problems. My 2 year of who is 3 in a couple of months wasn't allowed in as her wasn't 3 years old. This was a little harsh but at least they are sticking too the rules.

I would recommend this resort to everyone. You will not be disappointed and will feel looked after and valued as a guest here. If you are planning a wedding this is a great place to do it with many different options and locations around the resort. The wedding teams work so so hard and made our memorable day a stress free fantastic experience. Thanks to ELISA again.

Overall great! Hotel was accommodating.
We stayed on the third level, north-side/wing of the property, with an ocean view room. We had a Jacuzzi-tub outside on our deck. Our flight out of Atlanta was canceled. The hotel was accommodating. I was able to extend my stay an extra day for the day that was lost.
I also chose preferred club for an extra $150 or so. I thought it was worth it. I got a better ocean view, some small upgrades in the room(nothing too amazing), and they had a special area(room) that had the preferred club offices where you check in, but it also had computers to use, a bar, some orderves. It's nice because not that many people are in there, nor is the bar packed with hotel guests. They also serve some food in club also.
NEGATIVES: We stayed on the third level, north-side/wing of the property, with an ocean view room. We had a Jacuzzi-tub outside on our deck. You can hear quite a bit. They rooms bleed sound...in other words you can hear your neighbors :( but sometimes funny at the same time.
BITTER-SWEET: They clean your room 2x a day.(or at least pick up the room, bring fresh towels, make your bed, and refill your refrigerator with glass cokes, water, and alcohol). BUT WARNING....if you do not put the "do not disturb" sign...they will come right in the room without much of a warning. That happened twice to us.

Just to let you know...It is VERY expensive to get a taxi. The taxis are unionized, so the prices are all the same. To get a taxi into the city of Cancun it is about 45 American dollars!!! No joke. One of the nights we were able to go to the small city of Puerto Morelos, about a 10 minute car ride. The mayor of the city offers taxi services for $10 and they pick you up at the hotel. It's a cute, nice, coastal town of about 10,000 people. Ask the hotel about it. When you are in Puerto Morelos there is a man who does everything. His name is Abraham Gomez. He speaks amazing English. I bought one of his awesome finger paintings. I found out he offers fishing trips for only $250. That for was the both of us and they picked us up right from our hotel. I felt safe with him. He was knowledgeable. He also is a private chef, tour guide, and offers snorkeling. He is SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper than other mainline services. Anyways...you got to check him out! abpuertomorelos@gmail.com There are some other people that talk about him on TripAdvisor.

Room Tip: Preferred club offers better ocean views.

This is a great resort specially if traveling with kids (not infants). The hotel is really nice, clean, not so big compared to other riviera resorts and the food, beverage and service (tipping of course) is great. I read some very bad reviews before arriving and I just got to agree in some: World Cafe does smells bad, some days worst than others, some gardens close to the lobby also smell like drain; if you're a light sleeper you won't like rooms close to lobby or pool because there is noise all the time, the rooms are not sound isolated so you will hear music and noise all night long; if you tip you will get great service otherwise service is ok (never take no as an answer, try another waiter you might get what the other one didn't get you); there is not much privacy in rooms, specially in the toilet and shower

So in a few words:

Pros:
+ Kids can stay all day long at the explorer club, the will love it
+ Food is really good
+ Variety of beverages (few options for beer)
+ Rooms are clean and comfortable
+ Nice pools and beach
+ Great service
+Best restaurants: Seaside grill, el patio

Cons.
+ noise in rooms near the lobby
+ bad smell in some places
+ not so many adult only spots
+ you have to tip to get the best service
+ everything is expensive at the hotel
+ have to take taxi to go everywhere
+ they don't have many choices for infants so bring food
+ power goes out several times a day

I'm sure you'll like the hotel...i would go back.

By the way go to the spa, is greeeeeeeeeeat. Watch for the daily deals...

Advice: If you're not interested on a time share vacation plan, just say NO they will not bother you anymore the coupons is to get you started so don't pick them up they are useless.

Room Tip: rooms far from lobby and pools are quieter.

We had a really good time at Dreams Riviera Cancun. We booked through Virgin holidays for 9 nights at beginning of October. Being off peak season the hotel wasn't too busy which we quite liked. It might have been a different experience during peak times.
The room was really nice, comfortable bed, mini bar well stocked with beer, water and soft drinks, good walk in shower, double sinks, flat screen tv and good sized balcony. We did pick a garden view room which meant our room looked out on the boundary of the resort and an outside storage area that staff used. So because of that we didn't really use the balcony. It didn't really matter to us though.
The facilities in the resort were really good, especially the swimming pools. The size of the infinity pool was great, it had a pool bar, little sun bed type things on the side so you could sunbathe in the water. Lilos were always available as well. If you were fussy where your sun bed was then you need to get up quite early as the best beds do go quickly, however, there are lots of beds. Plenty to accommodate all the guests.
The hotel does have a policy to stop people putting down towels to hold onto beds but we noticed after our first day that this is very lenient. Everyone seems to come down, get towels, get a bed then go for breakfast.
Food at the resort is ok overall. The poolside restaurants which we went for lunch everyday are probably the best in our experience. General lunch type stuff during the day i.e burgers, sandwiches, tacos, etc... And at night these restaurants turn into a steakhouse and fish restaurants. Both really good. Lots to pick from.
The other restaurants you firstly needed to wear smart clothes; trousers and collared tops for men and women it was a lot more relaxed. You could get away with just wearing a casual top and skirt.
The food at these restaurants was a bit of a let down considering the effort you had to make to dress up.
Japanese - We went to the Japanese for the first night and just went for the a la carte menu. If you want tepanyaki you need to go at half 5 to book for that night. The a la carte menu had sushi, noodles and rice meals. The sushi was good but our mains were just ok.
Italian - The Italian was the same as the Japanese. Food was ok, expected more.
French - French restaurant was the best of the formal restaurants for us. Had a lovely starter and great main.
Mexican - being in Mexico we expected a lot from this restaurant and sadly we didn't think much of it. My wife had the steak which is flambeed at the table which is quite cool and that was nice. However, everything else was just ok. We just thought that being in Mexico we would have had more choice available and a wider selection of things.
Bars - the bar we used most of all was the lobby bar which we enjoyed, great selection of cocktails and lots of places to sit.
Tours - we went on the chicken itza tour and it was great. Good to get out of the resort for a day and we went through a Mayan village to see how they made certain Mayan clothes and ornaments. It has a shop so you can by souvenirs. We also got to taste some local tequila which at 9am definitely set the day up! We continued the tour on to chichen itza and spent about 2-3hours. The tour guide took us round first explaining things and then we were able to do our own thing for the last hour. On the way back we went for lunch and then to ik-kil which is a huge cave with a fresh water pool at the bottom which you can go swimming in and jump into from a platform area. Going there was definitely a highlight of the tour. It added something extra than just your plain tour to see sights.
Entertainment - there was entertainment on every night. Magician, fire and drum show, comedian, circus acrobats and a couple of other things. We didn't really go out of our way to watch these as we were not that bothered but if you wanted to go then you had a bar available and lots of seats.
Staff - the staff were great. Very attentive, maybe sometimes too attentive. I would finish my meal and they would take away the plate and cutlery before my wife had finished. One time I was still eating my last bite and they came and cleared the table. Might be a British thing but it kind of annoyed us. Saying all of that them being that attentive meant that you got seen too very quickly and drinks were always topped up. We tipped everyone that served us.
Overall Dreams Riveria is a great holiday destination. Would go back to Mexico but I would consider looking at other resorts closer or in Cancun to enjoy the proper Mexican experience.

We vacation with our daughters in laws every October and this was our second stayat this Dreams resort. Our first experience was in 2010 and the resort was just 1 yr old. All four of us loved this resort from the first day we arrived 3 yrs ago, and we all agreed that the resort has even gotten better if that is possible. A new chef, and more entertainment are just two of the additions to an already great resort. We feel so welcome here, very comfortable, almost like we were visiting old friends. I imagine by now you can see how much we love this place!! The resort is beautiful, clean and the rooms, (ours was a junior suite) are exactly as you see it on the web site. The restaurants are very good, and the staff couldn't be more helpful. A couple of minor issues, not even worth mentioning though, nothing of any great importance, especially when you are on vacation !! Try to remember that !!!! We ALWAYS tip all the servers, from the wait staff to the spa, but we noticed many people who did not tip, EVER, but in spite of that, everyone received great service with a genuine smile. Not to mention, that your "thank you" ALWAYS gets the response "my pleasure", to the degree that we wind up responding that way all the rest of the yr, just to recall our "friends" from Dreams. LOL I've read some of the negative reviews, and I would like to know just where these people vacationed. We did not experience any bugs at all during our stay (10-1 to 10-11). We also stayed at Dreams in Cabo San Lucas and found that it was just as wonderful. Bottom line, am resorts =great vacations, so we joined the Unlimited Vacation Club !!!! We think that am resorts have the right corporate philosophy. and feel secure vacationing at any of their resorts.

My wife and I took a trip to Dreams as a babymoon, with a pre-natal massage offered online before booking trip, also offered in booklet in our room, when my wife went to book the massage, she was told at they no longer offer it. The costumer service we received regarding this issue was terrible. The spa manager told us it was dangerous but said if we really wanted it, my wife could sign a waiver. On our first day at the resort, a lady drowned in the ocean and not 1 hotel employee helped take control. We would NEVER go back.
