“Great Stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2010

I just returned from a 4 day stay at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa and it was great! The resort is beautiful! The entire property was very clean and the staff was so nice. There was a little bit of sea weed on the beach but it really wasn't an issue. The Asian restaurant was good for Hibatche but not for their regular dinner. They suggest you make a reservation but in all honesty if you show up at one of their dinner times (6pm, 7:30pm or 9pm) then you will get in without a reservation! We had the breakfast buffett every morning and all of us agreed that it was our favorite meal of the day. For lunch we mostly ended up with salsa and chips or fries and chicken fingers. The drinks were always flowing and there were servers on the beach as well as the pools. Overall the resort was a great place for a girls long weekend away. The rooms reminded me of a studio apartment, they were very large! Plenty of room for 3 women. I know others have commented on the musty smell of the rooms, which was there, but since you spend so little time in the room it is not an issue. I wouldn't reccomend this place as a honeymoon location but it was perfect for a last minute girls trip!!

We are frequent travelors to Cancun. This year, we decided to take our 2 and 1/2 year old son. So we were looking for an all inclusive, family friendly resort outside of Cancun, but still not to remote. After reading reviews and getting a good deal, we decided on this property.

The hotel is only a short shuttle ride from the airport. It is a large hotel but beautifuly built. Check in was easy. An H10 representative spoke to us and gave us information and tips about the hotel and area. Her name was Beaterice and she was very, very nice. We were expecting the whole timeshare deal but that was not the case at all. One of the bellhops then took us to our room in a golf cart.

The hotel has several pools. We stayed either at the main pool which had a lot of activity or the children's pool which was very quiet. The pools are very nice and well kept. The grounds are also beautiful and maintained very well.

As some of the other reviews suggest, the beach does have some seaweed. They do their best by mulching it down with a tractor, but you have to keep in mind that one of the world's largest coral reefs is just offshore, so a little vegetation is to be expected. The beach itself is sandy and relaxing. The only problem was that there are a limited number of beach chairs/umbrellas. People will wake up very early and put their towels on the chairs and then go back to bed or to breakfast. If you come out there by even 9 a.m., do not expect to get a seat.

Also, the hotel was full the weekend we were there, but what was great was that it never seemed crowded or packed.

The Room was nice. We did not upgrade to privilege but our room was still very large with a stocked fridge, lcd, balcony/patio, etc. The mattresses were a little noisy, but not anything that was not acceptable.

I was actually very surprised at the food. We ate at the buffet or the beach grill most of the time, and the food was actually very good. They had lots of variety and it tasted good. I know this hotel caters to people from all over the world, and oftentimes you get food where you can't find something you will like or it does not taste good. Not the case here.

There are two restaurants you have to make reservations for (Italian and Japanese) and a seafood restaurant which has a surchage on the meals. Since it was full capacity, and we had a two year old, we did not try those restaurants. We did go to two non-reservation restaurants. The first was the American grill and actually had a decent steak. The second night we went to the Mexican Restaurant and it was also very tasty. There is also a crepes restaurant but we did not try that. The only complaint I had was that there service at the restaurants was a bit slow. Sometimes it would take a while to get a drink or put in your order. As far as the bars go, there were several bars and it was never hard to get a drink.

There are a lot of things to do at the hotel and it is very family friendly. The lobby is beautiful and you can just relax there after dinner and have a nice espresso. The staff also worked hard at providing entertainment. We did not choose to do it, but Cancun is not that far if you want a night on the town. The hotel itself is not really a party place after dark. They also have photographers wandering the hotel and beach who will actually take very nice photographs of you. They are a little expensive, but a nice souvineer. Also, one night, they had a flea market of sorts with a variety of different outside vendors selling souvineers, jewelry, paintings, etc.

A couple of tips: Bring cash. There are not a lot of banks in Riviera Maya, and while the hotel/excursions take credit, the local vendors only take cash. If eating at the non-reservation restaurants, try to get there a little early because the line will get long as the evening progresses. Unless you are really wanting it, paying the additional upgrade to "priviledge" is not worth it. You get pretty much the same thing otherwise.

Also, I know this is an all-inclusive resort, but that does not mean you shouldn't tip your waiters, bartenders, maids, etc. a little bit. They work very hard and deserve it. We would usually just leave a couple of dollars at our meals or maybe a buck for two drinks, etc. Not only do they deserve it, but you get better service in the long run. A little will go a long ways.

Overall, a great hotel and a great stay, especially for families or for couples looking for a little rest and relaxation.

It Just sickens me when people write stupid things about this resort! We have been staying here since hey opened and I can tell you they may not be perfect, but who is? it's Mexico people! For that matter, it's everywhere you go! They try hard! The food is good, the service is good and given the people they have to deal with, and yes, trust me, people are rude in general, they do a pretty good job! I know the general manger and the stories I hear and have seen myself would blow your mind, so with that said, this is a great place to go and unwind and have fun! it is an easy drive fron cancun Airport, and easy drive to Playa Del carmen, and is off the beaten path of all the hustle bustle of the crowded hotel zones. It is clean, the drinks are good, the staff is friendly and as i said beofre the food is pretty good. Some days are better than others but for the most part it is better than most other other reosts I have stayed ated at down in Mexico over the Past 25 years of traveling there! I will say thios. Peopel get caught up in this 5 Star Resort stuff because of thire travel agents and everything they read online. Trust me when I say this! There is no truth to ny of that! There are good resorts and there are bad ones! That's it! The rest of the ratings is nonsense for the most part! I have traveled the world and you do get what you pay for to a point, but after that, it is all fluff! H10 Resorts are right up there! Fransico is a true great general manager, and Maria, the front desk guest manger will bend over backwards to help out, so just ask!!! Remember, they have over 1,000 guests at any given time to deal with, so it gets busy, but they do try hard. Ok, with all this said, have a good time, enjoy H10, and try to have fun! Find what works for you, and remember it's your vacation!

This review is mainly for the Brits as i was slightly confused before we got there, it seems the Americans & Canadians get a different package than us. When we arrived we asked about the privilege package & found all we got for 25 US$ each per night was the same room, a separate area for breakfast overlooking the sea, which looked very nice, a separate beach, premium drinks like Jack Daniels (all you had to do to get the premium drinks was to tip the bartender & you got what you wanted) & 2 a la cartes booked for you without having to queue. You could still go to these restaurants you just had to queue between 3pm & 5ppm. We didn't take the upgrade & definately didn't miss it. There are 2 a la cartes you have to book an Italian & an Asian with the tapanaki table, they are very good, i prefered the ordinary tables for the menu in the Asian as you got a choice, at the tapanaki table you got a bit of chicken, prawn & beef all done the same still nice though & good fun. The other restaurants are a grill where they serve lots of seafood & steaks some of the dishes have a supplement, but well worth the extra cash. A Mexican, an American sports bar, a creperie which had pancakes & pizza. A coffee & sandwich bar. A buffet which was excellent. This was our 5th trip to Mexico & we found this hotel had the best food we have experienced, beating even The El Dorado Royale just down the coast. The staff are very good & try very hard to entertain you, if you don't want to join in they don't push you to. The rooms are very nice & spacious our room was on the top floor & didn't have a musty smell, i believe some did on the ground floor. There was a coffee maker in the room & water, beer & soft drinks were replenished daily. Room service was available, except at breakfast, that was part of the privilege package.

For an extra $50.00US a night per person you can experience the true five star service.
This is the up sell "time share" you get to become one of their privilege guests.
Ocean view rooms, premium matresses, pillows and sheets, roped off private beach area with upgraded towels and romantic canopy lounges, premium liquor, mini bar stock of your liking are all available at an additional cost.
You are booking a 5 star resort but only getting the 5 star service and comforts if you pay the extra $700 US, per couple per week, after already arriving and being stuck. They are banking on you either buying the Prestige Upgrade or the H10 Tme Share - High Pressure sell. Don't be fooled by the beautiful ladies that invite you to a very special event and tell you to come and be hungry for your special resort gift and tour....it is just a trap for taking 2 hours of your time to sell you time share within the resort.
Ya ya it was good as all the reviews say but, I got tired of standing in line for an hour to make restaurant reservations while the "privileged" went to the front of the line. Did not need this on vacation. WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO AN "H10 RESORT" AGAIN! Warning Warning Warning ...... heard 2 people say they lost substantial money out oof their safe.

We booked this thru Fun Jet--it was one of their "hot deals". Wonderful place to vacation. The staff really makes this resort. They go above and beyond. Wish we had taken more dollars for tipping. Shout out to Gasper at The Score sports bar!!!!!!

This resort is right on the beach. You can walk the beach for miles. Beautiful white powder sand. There is seaweed, but the resorts clean it every morning. There are some streches that don't get cleaned, so just have to watch your step.

The drinks are great. Make sure to have a miami vice! If you want a "strong" drink--go to the lobby bar--WOW! In general the drinks during the day down by the pool are on the weak side--but that was OK by us.

Japenese restaurant was the BEST. Went there two nights. Got to sit at the cooking table and they put on a great show. Food was excellent. Dress code is NO sandles or shorts-- but jeans are OK. Same goes for the Italian restaurant. The other two restaurants and buffett are casual dress.

The buffett was very good. They have stations were they grill fresh shrimp, fish, fajitas, etc. We had made to order omelettes here for breakfast every morning.

Wireless internet not so great. Had to go down to the lobby to use it. Found out it worked best early in the morning when not so many people were on the network. Otherwise it would keep dropping the connection.

Don't expect too much out of the mini-bar. We didn't have one when we checked in. 24 hours later after complaining 4 times and talking the manager--finally got it. They only stock it with two beers a day. Other than that--it just has soda and water. Also didn't keep things very cold.

I will warn you--what everyone says about the musty smell is true. We had a slight musty/mildew scent in our room. Not a big deal as long as you take some lysol or febreeze.

The showers are large, but they leak on the floor in the bathroom because they are tiled and there is no shower pan. We just threw our towels on the floor after drying off. Problem solved! Also, the bathrooms are "open" to the room--no door. So you probably wouldn't want to share they room with anyone but a spouse or close relative!

There is nightly entertainment. We went two nights. The "star show" is good. The other show we walked out on--not so great.

This resort is very family friendly. Lots of kids here. Much different from when we stayed in Cancun last time, but not a big deal.

You can rent a car in the lobby. We did this so we could go to Tulum for the day. Car was $65/day. It's very easy to great around--only one main road down there.

All in all, this is a very nice resort and we had a wonderful time. The resort is not fancy and it is not 5 star, but it was a great value for the $$$$

Upon checking into the room we were shocked by strong mold odor. We demanded to be moved to the upper level due to allergies. Front desk informed us that those rooms require an extra charge $25.00 per night per person and supposedly different room class. When on the following day (after involvement of General Manager) we were moved to the second floor – there is no difference in the room.

Food is dissent in the buffet, but Oriental restaurant – terrible.

Entertainment – What? Never on time, unprofessional by the hotel staff but ok with local performers. The theater – the worst we’ve seen in 20 years we were going on Caribbean vocations. Small, uncomfortable, uninviting, no refreshments.
The only positive for us was the beach and the pool.
