The resort was amazing! We have been there two years in a row with friends and family and then just family. They have amazing entertainment, food and other amenities that will change the way you think of Mexico. The one problem that they have about the resort is the sand cleaner tractor that comes around 20 times a day. Everything else is amazing! They have great food and daily entertainment for kids and adults. Also at night they have shows and different late night activites for exaple pool parties. Ocean Coral & Turquesa is great for little kids to elderly adults.

Stayed at this resort March 12th through the 19th/2013. Have been to Mexico many times and all different resorts, this one was one of the best we have been too. Service was really good, room was beautiful and cleaned everyday including towels. Food was also really good, there was a wait at the Italian but we knew that so we would put our name in and go for drinks till the table was ready, it worked out great. Chairs seemed to be an issue for some people but those were the ones that came to the pool or the beach after 10:00 am. We did not have any problem with chairs at all. Entertainment was great too, bands at night and shows as well very wonderful. The one area I would say needed improvenment would be the Spa, my treatment was awesome but the facility itself is lacking compared to other spas in Mexico I have been to.
Drinks were great too!! Looking forward to going back soon

As you read above reviews I won't go on about the SUNBEDS (or lack of them) it spoilt the holiday you had to be Down by 7 am with your towels to get them and that was for two after that you would just see people walking around looking , it was only the last day that a full sweep came in to force as no doubt complaints were being made ,the staff were telling guest s that if you left your bed more than an hour your towel would be removed? We seen this so when a couple came back from a walk someone else had their beds and was totally confused so don't go for a walk or lunch longer than an hour The hotel is to blame lots of room for more SUNBEDS if you walked further down the beach the other hotels had loads all day .restaurants you could not book but queue yet again you had to buy 6 pm to be able to eat around 8 !!!! Went to the H10 ocean royal last year much better would I come back here ? NO. Ps the pool man also books the towels on the beach I watched him he would keep around five then when he sees desperate people looking he would've them there and they would be so grateful they would give him money ???? Better he looked at the beds that were not being used half the day.

Dear SwanseaAmerica,
We want to express our gratitude for choosing OCT for your last vacations. We truly regret to read that your vacations were affected by the pool and beach chairs situation, which has been aggravated by the reservation of the lounges made by the guests. As posted on your review, the towels used for reserving pool and beach chairs are retired by the members of our staff after 2 hours if any guest is using it. Our resort counts with a complete stock of beach and pool chairs in order to cover the entirety of our guests; even so, we will like to inform that we have bought a new stock of lounge chairs which has just been placed this week in order to aid this situation. We must say that your comment about this malpractice from our staff really surprises us, as it is the first time that we receive this kind of feedback regarding this matter . Be sure that we will make an investigation regarding this issue and actions will be taken if needed. We also like to enlighten that our first come first serve basis was implemented in order to give everyone the opportunity of dine were preferred. The waiting time for the tables may vary depending on the number of people attending to the restaurant and the reserved tables for the Privilege guests. Furthermore, guests are provided with pagers in order to reduce inconveniences and waiting for the table in the place they prefer. We are thankful for sharing your experience and your observations regarding our operation, which give us the opportunity to improve our performance.
Kind regards,

We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids, ages 13 and 11). We just got back from Mexico, over March Break. It is our 2nd time in the Mayan Riviera, we didn't do any excursions at all since we had done so in the past. Let's start:
The resort itself is clean, beautiful and in a great location. It is at the end of one side of the beach. The grounds (in and out) are always extremely clean and tidy. The beach is beautiful, but too many sea weeds for my liking. The sand is fine and it has the best volleyball court by far (the one close to the diving centre, juice bar and main pool). The other volleyball court, a little further down the beach, is still good, but not raked, therefore, lots of corals, etc.
The people who work there, the staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. Front desk, checking in and out was smooth and quick! The waiting staff at all of the restaurants were amazing, except for one which I'll talk about it later. We tipped all of the time, we saw people who didn't, it's a shame because the staff work so hard and it's just a few bucks out of our pockets to tip, to show our appreciation (even though it's all inclusive)...it means so much to them.

Beach chair: that was a total bummer when we had to get up so early just to get 4 chairs. I don't know what time people get up to reserve beach chairs, but I was up one morning at 6:30 and many chairs had towels and personal belongings were on them, BUT no one was there! Although the resort discourages people from taking chairs and not using them, the system isn't working. I saw a man who took a chair with a towel on it, he threw the towel on the other chair and took the one chair--very rude! An incident occurred where we saw an empty umbrella, we took 4 chairs from the pool area and placed them under the umbrella, we went to have breakfast (30 minutes or so?) and when we returned, we were accused of stealing these people's chairs that apparently were there before (which they might have been), our stuff were removed...in the end, all worked out ...just idiots who stole chairs...that was an unpleasant part of trying to get beach chairs.

Room: We had a room in building 10, looking into the water, that was really nice. We didn't hear music from the bar at night. I think because the air condition was loud and the humidifier was going at the same time (totally recommend to request for one). Room was always clean an tidy by the maid and fridge was stocked.

Restaurants: We did a few a la cartes, ate at the buffet twice--food was fine. Breakfasts were good, plenty of your usual breakfast like eggs, French toasts, fruits, yogurt, etc. There is a wonderful fresh fruit drinks/juices station as well.
Restaurants which we did try:

Mexican was excellent. Excellent service and food. We went there twice.

French was OK. My crepe was cold when served. The menu selection was all crepes and 2 pizza choices. Desserts were crepes as well. The service was good. If you like crepes, you'll probably like this restaurant.

Italian: We ate in the inside restaurant, food was great and service was great too. Outside Italian has its own menu, not as formal as the inside and they were supposed to flombe (spelling?) the food. The waiter did that for all the other tables, but not ours'. We didn't know why, he made the Caesar salad in front of us, that was it. Armando was very rude, didn't look our way unless he had to, didn't offer our desserts until he got the hint that we were waiting for it. He wasn't attentive, we felt like we had done something wrong to offend him (still don't know what we did that gave him a reason to be so indifferent with us than with his other tables). The food was good though, sadly, the service was a very negative experience for us. That was one place that we didn't leave a tip. Throughout the dinner, he kept talking to his other waiter and to the hostess, we were sure that he was saying things about us and when he saw no tip, he made it obvious saying something to that effect to the hostess. I made an effort to let the hostess know that we weren't pleased with the service and his mannerism was totally unacceptable.

Route 66: That was OK, we only went there for lunch. Menu were hot dogs and burgers. At the time, there was a small buffet as well. This place opens late into the early hours of the morning. It depends on the day as well, sometimes, it opens up for lunch too.

Japanese: Sadly, we couldn't go there because our kids were under 14, no admittance. The reason is that they worry about the tapanaki table, the large flame..really now! Seriously? Our kids are 13 and 11 and we have been to many tapanaki dinners, including at some resorts. I think that needs to be changed. It is up to the responsible adult/parent to watch over their kids (as in many restaurants and other places)...that was a bummer for us.

We did not get the chance to try the Mediterranean restaurant.

Mike's Cafe was totally awesome, great hang out place, amazing and delicious drinks (smoothies were a great hit for the kids and we loved the frappes). Free wifi as well. It is similar to Starbucks. Oh yes, free wifi in the lobby too, but very slow during evening.

Overall, a relaxing and fun vacation.

The shows were good. Our favourite one was the Star--Michael Jackson was so good! The entertainers did a great job in the evening at the shows and during the day, keeping everyone busy. Olivia, Samantha, Ivan, Michael Jackson, etc...all were great!

We went on a bike tour into Peurto Morales. One of the entertainers took a group of us and we rode a total of 10k into the little town. Did a little bit of souvenir shopping. BTW, one evening, there were vendors that set up at the resort, extremely extremely ridiculously priced items! You will have to either bargain with them big time or go into PM to buy your trinkets. Some people have walked about 45 minutes to an hour into town, along the beach. BEWARE, you'll come across a nude (completely nude) beach on the way to PM.

Dear US4toronto,
We want to express our gratitude for choosing our resort. It is good to learn that you appreciated our facilities and restaurants, and that you enjoyed your vacations despite the mentioned situation. We must say that your comment about the attitude from the member of our Italian restaurant staff has overwhelmed us since it is not normal that we receive those kinds of remarks from our guests, but on the contrary, we usually receive excellent feedback about their friendliness and attentiveness. Furthermore, on a frequent basis our Human Resources coordinates seminars to all our staff members in order to reinforce the culture of service our guests deserve and expect. Rest assure that this situation will be investigated an actions will be taken if needed. We would like to express our gratitude for your positive remarks, and sharing with us that, besides these events, you had a relaxing and fun vacation, and you were satisfied with the hotel in general. We are thankful for sharing your opinion regarding your vacation experience. We hope to host your next holidays in a near future.

Just returned yesterday. I will start with good things. The service is excellent. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Restaurants are very good , if you can get in.
Here comes the bad........this place is run down. The lobby area is nice but I'm talking the rooms. We booked 6 months in advance asking for a room near the kiddie pool on the ground floor , having a 3 month youngster , oh and a crib. We were very far from any pool and in a room that probably doesn't get used very often. It stunk something fierce. After the 3rd day we either got used to it or it got better. The couch had holes in it and like grease on the front. The fridge hardly worked. We were locked out of our room for over an hour. I could spend all day explaining that one but lets just make it short. The batteries were dead in the door lock and we got run around trying to get it fixed. Maid service never came before 3 and one time I had to call well after 4 ! We were with a wedding party that was booked through the hotel and you think they would have cleaned our rooms so we could get ready for it without the maid in our rooms at the time ! Are you kidding me ? There were multiple door hangers in our area asking for maid service right from 7 am. They only clean check-out rooms before lunch I guess ? The food at the buffet was really bad. I understand trying to cook for 1500-1800 people but it was poor to be nice. Tons of frozen and canned fruit and veg , in Mexico ? Dole pineapple rings ? Ouch. Here's a good one , and I'm sure it's common. This place holds 1500-1800 guests. They only have about 300-400 chairs around the pool/beach ? Can you do the math ? What do we all do ? Signs all over saying no reserving chairs. Haha , ya right. Good thing I get up at 5 am ! After the third day , I was as ignorant as the rest. Sad but true. After 7:30 , standing room only , no joke. The beach area looks good but the water is gross. There are so many weeds , you cant swim without being covered. They have a tractor that goes back and forth about every hour just to keep the shoreline from making a wall of them. All it does is mix the weed into the sand. Where do you think that goes......back into the water when the waves come up. This location is so windy , the sand was blowing in our faces without anyone kicking it or anything. I asked some people and they said it's always like that here. I can't say this is a place I would ever go back to. If you read my other reviews , I have never said this before about any place !

Dear Hew24,
We sincerely thank you for posting your experience at our resort. It is good to learn that you appreciated the service provided by our staff and our restaurant offer. One the other hand, we lament that some aspects of your stay did not fulfilled your expectations. Please allow us to inform that the assignment of the rooms is made upon availability, therefore we do not guarantee any specific location for the rooms. However, we always do our best in order to accommodate our guests’ needs. In regard to your comment about the mini bar temperature, we must enlighten that its use is only for the conservation of the products, not for its cooling. We regret that you found some inconveniences with your door key, nonetheless we must inform that this issues are not frequent in our operation, but isolated events. Regarding your comment about the cleaning of the rooms, we like to inform that the schedule for the cleaning services is from 9:00 to 17:00 hrs., and this information is posted in the welcome cards left by the housekeeping staff in the rooms and in our Services Directory. Also, if our guests need an specific time for the cleaning service, they can always request it to our Guest Service Department in order to make the pertinent arrangements. In regard to your comment about the quality of our gastronomic offer, allow us to inform you that our gastronomical offer was elaborated taking in consideration the diversity of our guests. We must mention that the level of satisfaction obtained concerning the quality and variety of our food services has always been high, according to the opinions reflected in our weekly guests’ questionnaires. Our resort counts with a complete stock of beach and pool chairs in order to cover the entirety of our guests; even so, we will like to inform that we have bought a new stock of lounge chairs which has just been placed this week in order to aid this situation. In regard to your comment about our beach, we must inform that the beach situation is a consequence of our geographical location, as a big amount of seaweed is accumulated at our beach , that is located in front of the second largest coral reef barrier in the world, however, this does not mean an impediment for people to swim at the ocean. Thank you for the entirety of your observations and for giving us the opportunity of improving. We hope to have the opportunity to host you in the future and change your perception about our resort.
Kind regards,

We stayed at the Coral February 22nd thru March 1st.
Check In: were told they were overbooked and offered to send us to another hotel for '1 or 2 nights'--I'm not one that wants to unpack, pack, and then unpack again, for only 1 or 2 nights, and waste 1/2 a day or more transporting back and forth, so we declined--even though we were offered an upgrade to the 'privilege' benefits at both hotels. They were also out of locks for the safes (how can you not have enough locks for all your rooms??) so were told to come back the next morning to get one. We had also asked for a King bed, and told there were none available and given a double room, but offered to push the beds together, which we agreed. We were put in building #20--room 101. Nice location, near the tennis courts, far from the main building, pools, restaurants, etc. but was on a corner so only had people on one side and above us. Arriving at the room, found out they only gave us one room key, so had to go back to front desk to get a second one--didn't know we had to ask for two keys, since there were two of us, should have been automatic!!
Food: Mostly ate at the buffet. We only ate at one restaurant--the Japanese one, and did the grill 'show'. The cook and the food was excellent!! The breakfast buffet was probably the best...lots of fresh fruit, juices, bacon, omelet stations, cereal and breads. Lunch and Dinner buffets were just 'ok'...The theme nights weren't always what we expected they would be....steaks and pork chops were cut too thin, so were over cooked...beware of the tables you sit at....for some reason they have a horizontal wood piece that when you try to sit up close to the table, you hit your legs on! Staff was always friendly...but not enough wait staff to get your drinks. One disturbing thing I noticed about the wait staff...after someone was done at a table and they were cleaning it off and setting for the next arrival, they would leave what they determined to be unused forks on the table for the next person to use...in my opinion, NOT a good idea...all the silverware should always be removed and replaced with new ones! Tried eating a hamburger at the Beach Bar and Grill one afternoon...my husband put it down after one bite and told me to try it....I don't know what it was, but it was NOT the Nebraska beef we are used to....it was like mush....he said the hot dog was better, but still not quite what we are used to.
Entertainment: One crew of entertainment staff did all the daily activities, plus performed at the theater at night. Not the best night time performances, and I say that just because all the songs were lip-synched. Otherwise, the staff really danced and worked their buts off! Day time activities were fun at the pool...we participated a few times in the pool games, and did water aerobics one day, salsa lessons, and some other things. Loved Monica and Oly...all the staff really....Did the bicycle tour one day with Ivan as our guide...rode into Puerto Morelos, did some shopping, and then back to the hotel. My husband and I both got pulled onto stage for one of the skits during comedy night....was a riot!
Room: Yes, the bathroom is strange with no door on it...we travelled alone, so not a big deal, but if with other couples or when hotel staff knock on the door and you are in the middle of getting ready, no place for you to go! Not enough lighting in the bathroom either...made putting on make up difficult...don't understand why there can't be more lights in the bathrooms! Also, the fridges are not cold enough....never have found one cold enough in a hotel!! By the second beer my husband drank from the fridge, he proclaimed he'd had enough warm beer, and didn't drink one again. I normally would take a fold up cooler, but didn't this trip, and if I had, there were no ice makers to get ice from anyway. The magnifying mirror in the bathroom is mounted at about 6 feet high....at 5' 4", this was no help to me either trying to put make up on! The energy saving feature also took me by surprise...not only does it affect turning the lights off when there is no motion in the room, it also affects the outlets....as I always take a nite lite for the bathroom, I would wake up and the room would be totally dark--if I got up or rolled over, the nite lite would come on--so...if you are going to charge your phone, iPod, etc, you will only be able to do it when you are actually in the room so that all the power stays activated! Our maid did a very good job at cleaning the room, however, she always showed up after 4:00, when we would come back to the room to take a nap....even though we left our room tag on the door to indicate we wanted the room done all day while we were gone. Not sure why rooms couldn't be finished being cleaned earlier in the day? I must say that I had the best sleep that I have ever had on vacation here...there was virtually no noise to be heard...I had even bought ear plugs for this trip, and never had to use them, as I never heard anything from the people next door or above. Now, the birds in the morning are another thing...as soon as the sun comes up, they start screeching!
Beach/Pool/Chairs: Oh the lounge chair game...good grief....we have not stayed at a hotel before where there are not enough lounge chairs for everyone! At other places they normally would have a 'pool boy', and a stack of lounge chairs...whether at the beach or pool, you could ask the pool boy to add or move chairs for you....not here....on the second day of our trip, after not being able to find chairs on the first day, my husband got up at 7 AM...got towels, and found the last 2 chairs on the beach. The worse part of it? Most of the time, no one ever showed up for the chairs that were 'saved'....that's again where a pool boy would be beneficial....if after a certain time of the day the chairs are not occupied, the towels should be removed and allow others to have the chairs...this really should be addressed by the management of the hotel!! We did sit in the 'privilege' part of the beach one day...no one told us we couldn't, but no one came to get us drinks either....lounge chairs there are much nicer!
Drinks: seems that every bartender has their own way of making drinks...can you believe that I asked twice for a strawberry margarita, and they were both the most horrible drinks I had? I could not even drink them, and ended up throwing them away after a few attempts to drink them. The pool bartenders were always busy....not enough of them...because they had to wait on guests, and make the drinks for the wait staff...loved Blanca...she was great at recommending drinks, and remembering what we liked! Tip: take with you the insulated drink mugs with the straws....they will make your drink and pour directly into your cups for you...keeps them cold while in the hot sun! Corona beer is on tap...never saw any other type of beer.
Complaints: not enough lounge chairs at the pools or the beach; not enough lighting in the room bathrooms; fridges in rooms not cold enough; from our room, was difficult to get to the lobby and the restaurants when it was raining! can only get more bottled water at the lobby bar, and they won't give it out until after 10 AM....even though there are bartenders there making coffee and drinks, they won't give you bottled water until after 10 AM!! The nightly shows aren't until 9:30, so if you are a 6 PM - 7PM dinner eater, there isn't anything to do after dinner until the show...we mostly just sat in the lobby and drank and watched people...wish there was more 'activities' during this time frame; buffet food wasn't that good.
Good: the staff were all very friendly and helpful; the grounds were beautiful and well kept

We just returned home from a wonderful vacation at the Ocean Coral. 3-17 / 3-22 This was our second visit to this resort and found it just as wonderful this year as it was last year. We did the Privilege package and stayed in builidng 7, room 7316. Thank you to Mr. Jorge González for the room selection. This building is next to the quite pool and just a few foot steps away from the beach. The privilege package is worth the extra money to us. You get the private Fusion Gourmet resturant and privilege lounge that we used each morning for breakfast from a full menu and enjoyed martinis in the evening on the outside deck next to the ocean. The staff at Fusion are very welcoming and pleasant. Maria the server was such a nice lady. She worked very hard at breakfast and then served drinks at the quiet pool. We had dinner at the Fuision, italian, mexican, caribban grill and could not have been happier. The meals are prepared and presented in a fantastic way. We never left hungry. The dress code was casual with dress shorts except for the italian which is dress pants for men. I cannot comment on the buffet or evening activities. Yes the beach does have seaweed, but that gets removed by staff during the mornings. The lounge chairs at the privilege beach were always available same at the quite pool. The pools are very clean with drink service. The beach is a great place to releax and to take a long walk. Our butler Alexandro was always available if we needed anything. We found our butler Alberto from last year and he remembered us and also was available for us. The butler service makes you feel very special. The staff was always very pleasant and always said hola.

We have nothing but good comments about this resort. If anyone has any questions conact me via trip advisor.

We recommend and will return.

Room Tip: building 7 close to pools and beach
