“Secret Silver Sands Honeymoon Stay 12/2011”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2012

Secrets Silversands. This place was excellent. 15-20 minutes from the Cancun Airport. Staff welcomed us with champagne when checking in. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon in Dec 2011. Very private resort but right on the beach. Huge swimming pools. hot tubs were not very hot. Great food, drinks, entertainment. All the staff was very polite. Very clean and well maintained. No kids at the resort was a plus! 7 restaurants, 6+ bars. I lost count. Even a pool bar. Very secure location. Gated community. The FOOD was amazing. Not having to tip was even better. Rooms were excellent. jacuzzi, huge shower, lounge area, nice balconies, king size bed. Honeymooners delite! Good room-service day or night plus great menu. Breakfast in bed if you want or a great buffet. Gift shop was very expensive, so pack any medical supplies you need and souvenir shop elsewhere. The "$200 Honeymoon Resort Spa Package Credit" was a joke. It's split up like 15 different ways. $10 here...$20 there. Not worth the mess. So you still end up paying $200-$300 more on what you wanted a discount for anyways. Whether food, bottles of wine, wifi, spa, etc. nice sports bar and beach bar. Restaurants range from Japanese, French, Itilian, Mexican, Mediterranean, American, etc. TV has 40+ channels including ESPN & The Playboy Channel, ha. Only about 12 were in English. Lots of travel agents at front of hotel to plan excursions.

Room Tip: Honeymooners sweet facing the beach is worth the upgrade.

Attention all couples~ THIS PLACE IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! This resort is kid-free so that means that they have splurged on only the finest of comforts for you and your partner.
Lets start with the beach; no vendors clean sand and you can pull your chair right by the water. Its not a huge layout but its all for you- no comotion around. Service is great, drinks are high quality. The food is outstanding. They have thought of everything for the health-conscious to the gourmet lovers. The entertainment is not that festive- they could improve on that, the evenings can be a bit boring. The rooms are fantastic- hot tub included and the best part 24/7 room service included! The room service menu is extensive and they are pretty quick. There is a small shaft trap near the door where the food is put so that you dont have to open the door- more privacy for couples!! You can play your ipod in the room they have a station for that.
Very clean, very comfy and great staff that care about the service. Its not a huge place its just perfect. Everything is new, classy and refined.
Get yourself pampered at the spa~you can often get a free voucher for the spa by participating in free activites during the day. Activities are fun, some include massage lessons on your partner, wine tasting, cooking classes and much more.
Looking for a real 5 star experience with your partner in Mexico? This is it!

My wife and I just returned from Secrets Silversands yesterday and had a great trip. Wonderful staff, the food is great, rooms nice, resort design and layout great. Service everywhere was top self. Our favorite restaurant was the Mexican and loved that you didn't have to bother making reservations at all but one dinner restaurant. If you want to dine at the Japanese where they cook in front of you, you need to book it at the concierge between 7 and 8am. After 8 it is likely to be fully booked. Other guests where fun and a good mix of people. If you like beach walks, the town is about 70 mins and to the right of the water. If snorkeling is your thing, There is a good tour operator about ten mins to the left of the water.
Bullet point negatives:
*beach isn't great but just go to Azul next door, beach is less rocky there. I did catch a star fish right in front Secrets. I love stuff like that.
*there has been a lot of mention of a gas odder, I noticed it a bit once or twice but it wasn't bad
*200 resort points is kind of a waste of time, we only used them for half price WIFI, which for the price of this place, WIFI should be free.
*taxis, if you take a taxi from here to Playa or Cancun it is a fixed rate of $45USD. No negotiation. Take a taxi back and you can easily get it for $30. It sounds like a taxi and resorts price fix scam. I think all the big resorts in this area do it.

We spend a week over New Years and it was AMAZING! I'm not exactly sure where the negative reviews are coming from. The rooms look like the pictures. Yes, they are a little musty, but it's very humid there so it was expected. The food is very, very good. They have top shelf alcohol, and the resort is very well kept. The staff is nice. The bar could have moved a little faster, but we were there during peak season so it was busy. The resort provides daily entertainment (kind of like being on a cruise ship) and we enjoyed the band. We also did the tequila tasting and that was FUN! We did a few excursions so we didn't get to enjoy the resort's full day entertainment as much as we wanted too. We meet people there who never left the resort their entire stay and were so HAPPY! The location is very sheltered and leaving the resort via taxi to Playa Del Carmen cost $90 round trip. Yikes! I was prepared for a horrible beach after reading the reviews-- but the beach was beautiful. The sand is white and the water is crystal blue. My fiance and I, along with our friends had a very good time!! If only we could have stayed longer....

Room Tip: Stay on the right side of the property-- building 1-3. The other side has loud generators.

My partner and I have been to all-inclusive resorts in Mexico on three previous occasions. We booked a trip with 2 other couples and stayed at the Secrets Silversands from January 2nd through the 8th. We usually stay at the Dreams Tulum, but we decided to try a new resort because it is only 20 minutes from the airport. Overall we had a good experience.

The appearance of the hotel is contemporary and modern. The rooms are nice and large. The grounds of the hotel are very well manicured.

Everyone in our party thought that the food at all of the restaurants was excellent. The nightlife was fun and lively.

The staff, except for those working in the lobby, was very friendly and helpful. The bars were nice. The maids sometimes did a poor job at cleaning the room.

My main complaint about the resort is that the beach quality is poor. It is okay for laying out by the ocean. The sand was white, but rocky as well. It is also a very small beach. This disappointed us because we are total beach people. I would recommend driving further south to the Tulum area to enjoy the beaches there. They are MUCH better and more superior.

While we would not stay at the resort again, it is nice for those who prefer pools to beaches.

Dear Jhammann,

We appreciate that you and your friends have chosen us to spend your gateway. We are overjoyed to know that you have had a good experience on your stay with us! And that our resort design and architecture, as well as the suites and grounds, food , service from and entertainment have met your expectations.

We appreciate you have addressed some areas of opportunity on your overview, our Management team had reviewed them and we truly appreciate your feedback since this help us to improve our service levels that allows us to offer better experiences to our guests.

We regret to know that our beach was the factor that did not allow you to enjoy your stay with us fully, however we are happy to know that our service was up to your expectations; please be certain that it is a true please for our staff and Management to offer great services and make our guest’s stay truly memorable.

Regarding to the beach situation, I would like to add that we had made great efforts and worked on a beach-recovery program that had the main purpose of improving our beach appearance and offer our guests a much more enjoyable experience. As a result of this program we have recovered over 22 meters of beach that our guests can now enjoy. We are located in front of a beautiful natural protected area with the second largest coral reef barrier on the world just within hundred meters in front of our property; this makes our resort a great spot for those who enjoy diving and snorkeling.

Again, we truly appreciate your remarks as your feedback is truly important for us.

Receive warm greetings from the Secrets Silversands Management and staff.

My wife and I vacationed at Secrets Silversands in May 2011. We booked through cheapcarribean.com as part of the Super Secrets Surprise (sss) package. This is where you don't know which Secrets resort you will be staying at until a few weeks before you depart. We drew Silversands, as did most people who chose to participate in this. Don't get me wrong, the grounds were well kept, staff was amazing, and the food was good. The rooms were clean. However, we are beach people and the beach was horrible. The ocean floor was very rocky and you really had to be careful not to cut your feet. The seaweed was a problem in the water and on the beach. This is not the fault of the resort of course. Staff worked hard all day trying to keep up with the cleaning of the seaweed, but it was still a problem. The restaurants all were good other than the mediterranean place. Staff throughout the day at the main pool had many activities and kept the guests interested. The drinks were great and staff always made sure you had one in your hand. Please tip these people, they deserve it. I wish there were more hot tubs. There is one connected to the main pool and another further towards the beach. It was disappointing that you could not use them after dark. We enjoy after hours drinks coupled with the hot tubs, and that was not an option. Ages ranged from the 20's through the 60's as I could see. There are several bars, but the swim up bar in the main pool was always very crowded and tough to get a drink during the afternoon hours. The night life was ok with events in the theaters most nights. The bar inside started out one night as a karoke bar, but ended club style, that was pretty cool for the younger crowd who liked to bump and grind. All in all it was a good vacation, but if you're looking for a little wild side and beach, this is not the place. We won't be returning.

Worst food I could have imagined. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. I am not sure whether or not the average guest at this resort has ever eaten good quality food because their 5 star reviews shock me. The food was cold, for starters. It was bland and gross. The shrimp was so frozen prior to being served that my husband couldn't pull it apart. The minestrone soup at the italian place was in BEEF STOCK! It tasted terrible. I am 25 and not an old hag that complains and isn't capable of being satisfied or have a good time. Over all the staff was good and the service was good, but the quality was awful. I would never go back to secrets silversands. Please do not be make the mistake that we did by reading the reviews "this was the best food we ever ate!" You will be disappointed! My husband and I actually went from place to place eating little bits here and there just to try and eat what we could. The jacuzzis were freezing cold. Even the outside one, and none of the pools were heated. We met a couple who were chefs from NYC and they actually left the resort to eat dinner because the food was so bad!
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE AVERAGE REVIEW!
