“Not as good as Vicky fisheries”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

While the restaurant makes for a lovely dining experience, the lower quality of the food means I go elsewhere for my takeaway.
The batter is very crispy and the fish tender, however the chips are a dissapointment.
I'm glad that they saved the Harry Ramsden site but it's a shame that they couldn't save the quality of the food.

“worth a visit”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

Food was good, enjoyed the fish and chips and mushy peas. There was plenty of it.
Setting superb, just love the chandeliers.
Parking easy, level walk in now if you drive right around the back of the restaurant.
I thought the waitress we had could have made a bit more effort to build rapport, you know just be a bit pleasant. The other ones looked happier.
Quick service and we were not rushed.

“Delicious Fish and Chips”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Thank God the good people of the Wetherby Whaler have rescued the old Harry Ramsden's site! As a long-time lover of the fish and chips of the former, and a long-time mourner of the decline of the latter, this is a match made in heaven. I genuinely believe that the Whaler mini-chain does the best fish and chips in Yorkshire. Here at the old Harry's they have a fabulous, huge room to serve them in, and delightful staff too. So my advice - get stuck in!

“New Venue”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We tried this when it opened after being Harry Ramsdens for many years. The food was good and hot when served. It was very busy when we arrived and had to wait for a table but it did not take too long. They have kept some of the features that were there when it was Harry Ramsdens which is a nice touch.

“Back to the Future”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Ever since a small child I had been virtually weaned on Harry Ramsdens and I remember when you had to get dressed up to go in the restaurant part where you were served by ladies in period dress, crystal chandeliers in the ceiling and a pianist playing in the background. As the restaurant degenerated under various franchise deals you could see all the things that made Harry Ramsdens great were slowly slipping away but It brought a tear to my eye to hear of its demise and trepidation that it had been taken over by the Wetherby Whaler.

I needn't have worried. The Wetherby Whaler have brought the restaurant bang up to date with fresh carpets, crystal chandeliers and the pianist returning. The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough to ensure we had an enjoyable meal. The fish was beautifully cooked and a lovely crispy batter that melted in your mouth. A nice touch as well is that drinks (tea, coffee etc) are included in the meal price. Cannot wait to return and as others have said "Harry would indeed be proud"
