Don't bother looking around just book it! Great quiet location and at times like having your own private pool.

“A place to call home”

We stayed for a week here & its a place one can easily call home. Jaap has been very great to organise for our pickup at the airport (whom we later used for our return as well). There is a cleaning service twice a week, ask the property management near the pool area for the days. You do need a car to go around & we found a lady whom the real estate near the Chaba restaurant, they recommended a lady called Chutima & they deliver the car to the apartment for a Toyota Yaris its only 1000 baht a day with insurance. I left the details in the apartment hence can't help with the numbers. Layan beach IS walkable, but my husband & daughter complained due to the heat, but it IS do-able! Lots of restaurants along the beach if one is willing to walk! Also a lot of the restaurants around the area pick up hence get their numbers! The apartment is very peaceful & its great to hear the chirping of birds in the morning & the talking of cows at night! The pool is fantastic & very underused especially during the daytime, towards the end of the day more people use it, but is a nice way to meet the other people in the complex, we even made friends with a long term renter there! Over all great experience & Jaap is great to deal with! If we're ever in Phuket again I wouldn't hesitate to use one of his apartments again!

“Laying Low in Layan, Phuket”
Reviewed April 17, 2012 for a stay in February 2012

Truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful location. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place for you. Far enough away to be truly relaxing but also close enough to enjoy most activities on Phuket. A car to get around is advisable. There are great deals to be had in this department. We rented from David Car rental near the airport and paid only $450 for 5 weeks of transportation. Thai drivers are to say the least, frightening. They think that traffic rules are only suggestions and they may or may not obey them so beware when driving.

The apartment was furnished with everything you would require for a short or long stay. Bi weekly maid service also was provided. The decor was pleasant and inviting. The grounds were beautifully kept and I woke up most mornings to the sounds of the chirping birds. There was a a blue kingfisher bird that swooped into the pond looking for his meal most days. The blue wings on this bird were a thing to behold. The flowers were lovely and the scent of jasmine was present every day as I walked to the pool for a dip. The pool area was clean, quiet and well maintained and I spent many afternoons poolside with a book and a cool drink till the heat of the afternoon passed. The nearby Layan beach was also very uncongested as compared to some of the other beaches around Phuket like Patong or Surin.

Plenty of restaurants on the beach which was about a 15 minute walk away. For Thai food I recommend Lay Phang on the beach. They will pick you up if required.
Also nearby was Baan (big long name) restaurant which was just a 5 minute walk away on the main road. Unique and intersting decor and grounds and the Thai food was again very good. Also recommend Il Pesto restaurant and the Slug and Lettuce restaurant which was in nearby Cherngtalay for more European fare.

Most excursions would pick you up at the complex for a minimal fee and take you right to your activity. This was quite handy and very convienient as compared to driving yourself. We used this service to go to Phuket Fantasea, Phang Nga speed boats, Phi Phi island tour and Kao Lakh.

You can't go wrong booking your vacation here and Japp, the owner, was very helpful and professional in all our dealings. Five stars in my book.

Thank you very much for the review and all the great suggestions.
Another car rental agency with which I have good experiences and can recommend is mastercarrental.com, where you can rent a car starting from THB 630,- per day.

“Didn't want to leave”
Reviewed February 24, 2012 for a stay in February 2012

The danger here is that I start to review Phuket, if you're reading this, I'm going to assume you have already worked out that Phuket is a fantastic place to visit offering a bit of everything, so I will try to focus on the apartment.

Jaap made everything really easy for us down to detailed directions to the apartment complex, if only we'd remembered to bring them with us! Tip one - keep the directions and a map handy at all times, taxi drivers will get lost, thank god for pre agreed prices... If we had hired a car at the airport the directions we'd been sent would have been excellent, unfortunately we decided we'd use taxis to get around, and some of them couldn't find the site even with a map! hence the marking down on the directions.

On arrival the management office made checking in very easy, they (like most Thai's) were very welcoming and friendly. The apartment is on the second floor (third if you're using US reckoning) down one and up six flights of stairs - there is no lift - so pack light!

The apartment is well presented, with pretty much everything you need. The kitchen (which we only used for breakfast) could probably be used for a full evening meal but why waste the plethora of local restaurants, cafes and eateries? The living area is simply a sofa a coffee table and a TV with DVD player, the TV receives Setanta which plays European Rugby - so I don't know/care what other channels were available.

The bedroom has a king size double, we found the mattress a bit hard, but that is down to personal taste and to be honest we slept well every night. there is plenty of storage and wardrobe space and a safe for your passport and spare money.

The bathroom is spacious and has a bath and a shower although it takes some skill to keep the shower water in the bath and not spread across the floor.

There is a large balcony, where we spent most of the time we were in the apartment, it over looks the lake and swimming pool, and is a fantastic place to spend an evening watching the lightning.

The pool is fantastic, very well maintained, the only drawback is the lack of shade, so remember to reapply your sun cream regularly.

Layan beach is a gentle 10 minute stroll, and is wonderfully under used. It was practically empty every time we visited, there is a bar and a restaurant there as well as a tourism booking place, where we hired a scooter to get around, which was safer than expected as the roads are not terribly busy.

We only bought beer and breakfast stuff from the shops and there is a reasonable choice within 20 minutes ride including Tesco Lotus, 7-11 and the Big 1. We found these as we rode around and a map of where to find them would have been useful.

Overall we loved this apartment, I have already asked for availability for next year, it is an ideal location if you like what Phuket has to offer, but don't want the extremes of Patong or Phuket Town forced on you all the time.

Next year I'll arrange a taxi to pick you up from the airport for maximum convenience, so the taxi driver will be able to find the resort even when you didn't bring the directions! I am looking forward to welcome you back next year, either in this property or in the 3 bedroom penthouse when you will be coming with friends & family.
