We never stayed at this hotel but we went for some food because they where dog friendly. I don't like to be rude because they where hospitable and the service was fine but the food was very poor, really the kind of place your nan would like.

We have just had a lovely few days at this hotel. The view from our room and even from the bed was nothing short of beautiful. Very dog friendly. Our Labrador was one of several dogs all of whom got on amazingly! There was regularly biscuits for the dogs from the bar staff. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the hotel except the kitchen. At Last! A common sense approach to health and safety. The hotel is set right on the coastal walks with walks to Hope Cove in one direction and Soar Mill cove in the other. Excellent food and a very wide choice on the menu. Great breakfasts. If you have children, there is an excellent play area with tables for the parents. Sean and Hazel have an amazing hotel with very loyal and friendly staff and they are doing an great job. Nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: room 6. Views all the way down the Cornish coast.

only visited for a meal, 3 adults 1 child. childrens play area was thumbs up from 6 year old. meals served in Cheeswright snug. cod and chips v. good. deserts v. good. cheese platter, recommended. Dartmoor ale was good, best tasting ale in many a year. couldn't see any demarcation for pooches but residents lounge roped off from restaurant which very odd, maybe that was for pooches or Dartmoor ale was getting to me. i think it was an RAF station in WW2. looked a bit like an old 40's type civil building, maybe a signal station. liked the place, nice staff. cost of meals was about £70 which for 4 of us and my beer was ok.

Room Tip: did not stay overnight.

My husband and I along with our two boxer dogs have just returned today from a 4 night break at this hotel. We have nothing but praise for the staff and their eagerness to please at all times. We managed some wonderful walks along the Downs, thanks mainly to the good weather and wide and tended National Trust foot paths. The views were to die for.
We couldn't wait to enjoy (as we knew we would) our evening meals; well with a daily choice of 11 starters and 22 main courses one couldn't help but get excited about the food and 'oh boy' was it good.
Yes it is a 'dog' friendly hotel and well advertised for that so that is why we chose to go there. There are dogs sitting in the restaurant but our experience showed that they were all very well behaved and if you were resident one had the choice to leave them in your room.
We would strongly recommend this hotel for a truly peaceful break.
P.S. Room 7 is the best .

Room Tip: We requested room 7 having read the hotel info on the internet. It really suited all our needs perfe...

spent 3 nights at the hotel in August 2013. Found the hotel to be a nice and friendly hotel that is extremely dog friendly, the biggest reason for us choosing this venue. The hotel is definitely in need of some TLC and some bits are a bit scruffy, the hallway leading to the bedrooms for example. Having said that the food is very tasty but not cheap. the beer is poor and when we stayed there the pipes could certainly have done with a clean, I swop toed the cider which was OK. Breakfast was excellent as were the staff. Location is remote which does tend to force your hand when it comes to eating and drinking out. Lovely walks in all directions which is a massive plus.

Room Tip: all rooms have good views

We stopped for lunch which was excellent and the staff friendly and efficient but we did not like sharing the restaurant with dogs. Not just dogs with passing walkers but people actually turning up in cars and bringing their dogs in with them while they ate.
Perhaps it should be described as a place for dogs where people are tolerated.

Had a brilliant 5 night break at this lovely hotel, we stayed in room 7 which was ground floor with its own small patio and porch area. The room was clean and bright lovely big bed and bathroom/shower ensuite. The food in the restaurant was delicious and very varied the puddings were to die for it was so nice to be able to take our dog Wilson into the restaurant while we chatted to other residents. The staff were lovely, the weather was HOT we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be going back to this dog friendly hotel.

Room Tip: Room 7 was lovely
