When we moved to the village some two and a half years ago the pub was closed for refurb. Having looked through the window and considering it looked too "modern" we didnt go in it for several months. Our mistake, the refurb has been tastefully, the place is clean and bright, the log stove burns brightly (when necessarily) and the landlord and staff couldnt be more helpful and welcoming. The food is good if the menu is a little limited but in the winter the customer footfall is very mixed, busy one day, really quiet the next, better to limit the menu to ensure freshness than the alternative. What there is good tasty and nicely presented (fish and chips to die for which is saying something in Cornwall.

We couldnt have been made more welcome by both the community and pub, its customers and its owners We love it and love to share it with visitors.

Called in for Sunday lunch. Main course was OK - frozen vegetables and swimming in gravy but just acceptable. Ordered "warm treacle tart and custard" for desert - arrived fridge cold so sent it back - same plates of food presented back to us having been microwaved - soggy pastry and pretty much inedible. They had the decency to dock it from the bill but our confidence in this previously very good pub for food has been seriously knocked. There clearly isn't anyone in the kitchen with a serious commitment to high quality food and service.

Naturally I was very disappointed to read your review, I can not imagine what was wrong on the day you visited. We never serve frozen vegetables so I'm very confused by your comment on that point. As to your disappointing desert I can only apologize. It would seem you did not receive the type of welcome and standard I and my staff are committed to. I always make a point of pointing out bad as well as good reviews to my staff so you comments have been noted by all. Please do visit us again and give us a chance to change you view.

We stopped by here after a wintry family walk and were given such a warm welcome by the owner/landlord that we found it hard to peel ourselves off the comfy sofas by the open fire. The pub has had a beautiful facelift in recent years, and we can't wait to return in the summer to try out the beer garden and pool table. Full of character and lovely touches such as games and books. Highly recommended by three generations visiting from London.

We live in a nearby village and have visited this Pub several times in the past few months with family or friends for dinner, normally to celebrate a birthday. The first time I walked in, I immediately loved the decor, space and atmosphere. The landlord Tom even gave us a guided tour of the pub, including the first floor on our first visit! A great selection of beers, food and service is excellent; what more can I say?

Came here for the second time with family after lovely walk in gorran haven and the pub is such a lovely place to chill out. We enjoyed nice ales, a game of table football and a roaring log fire. No food was being served when we were there but am told their new chef is great so we'll deffo come back and have a meal sometime!
