Nice hotel, nice people. If you are looking for a good place to 'flop and drop' consider the Mabely. As has been said the Hotel is situated on the quieter western side of the Island which will mean a car for the more restless. Having a taxi transfer is a bonus.
I found the staff to be very freindly and attentive throughout.

A very enjoyable seven nights holiday in high quality surroundings. A perfect getaway for those looking for a restful holiday without the hustle and bustle of a town. Food was excellent but perhaps slightly repetitive towards the end of the week. Nearby coves are out of this world but a car would be needed.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view as mountain view is overlooking carpark

I booked the Mabely Grand as a package through Thomson Holidays. We were met at the airport by our rep and shown to a waiting taxi.A 45 minute journey saw us arrive at our destination with no concerns. The main hotel is as lovely as you see it on the website both inside and out. Our suitcases were taken by the very lovely Costa's to reception and the check in process began. We were shown to a room at the front of the hotel which i thought was strange as i had booked a sea view room and sure enough when Costa's open the room door i had to explain that we had booked a sea view room.He got straight on the phone to reception to inform them.Reception suggested we went to lunch while they sorted the mix up out.We left our bags with Costa's and went to lunch which is where our weight gain problem started!

Lunch was a buffet style, salads, pastas, meat options, potatoes, cold meats, fabulous desserts........i could go on........I am vegetarian and did not struggle for food the entire week we were there. My only niggle would be that the food isnt always labelled so you have to take a chance sometimes with what you pick as a vegetarian and end up going back for something else.

Anyway ive diverted from the review, after lunch we went back to reception to be told there were no sea view rooms left but we had been upgraded to a shared pool room.No complaints from us as i was aware that this room would have cost us a further 500 euros!. The room was spacious and clean (our cleaning lady was lovely i didnt get her name though) We did have problems with the shower as in previous reviews but soon got our own system going which meant the entire bathroom didnt get soaked! We didnt get any neighbours the entire week so had the pool area to ourselves, the pool was great once you were in but you had to work yourself up to taking the plunge as it was a little chilly to begin with!

The communal pool areas are nice and the beds comfortable at the upper one, the lower ones are ok for a short while but are set in one position so get a bit uncomfortable after a bit, which is a shame as the lower pool area is large but hardly used.Like the previous reviews although the hotel was busy,it didnt feel that way and we never struggled for sunbeds or in restaurant/bar for service.

Talking of bar service Yannis is fantastic and im sure makes some of the best cocktails in Zante :-)

The hotel is isolated so you either need to rent a car or be happy with staying by the pool. We took a walk to the Kampi Cross Taverna one night to watch the sunset,it was a 30 minute walk up quite a steep road but well worth it to watch a beautiful sunset!

We used the hotel "minibus" service on two occasions you have to pre book as there is only 8 places everyday but they go to 4 locations on different days and to Alikes (beach) daily. The "minibus" man was lovely he shared his local knowledge on the journey and when we got to Alikes he pointed in the right direction as to where to get the best sunbeds and food etc we took his advice and werent dissappointed! We decided on the Asteria Taverna & sunbeds,5 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella. The toilets are clean! There are showers and the food is great and not badly priced + you can get free wi-fi on the beach and waiter service for drinks from the very enthusiastic attendant!
Our second occasion of using the "minibus" was to go to Porto Vroma for the Shipwreck boat tour, again our driver was excellent and full of knowledgable conversation when asked. When we got to Porto Vroma it was to rough for us to go out so we had to return to the hotel but we were grateful to the boat owners for there honesty!

Majority of the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and had great customer service, the food is lovely, location quiet, room great, what more can i say...........i would hope to go back one day :-)

Room Tip: Book a Sea View Room!

Wow, what a beautiful hotel, tucked away in the hills on a very peaceful part of the island. The Mabely Grand truly deserves all the great reviews that are on here as everything about our stay was just wonderful. We were lucky enough to spend 10 days here at the end of August and having been back home a week I am suffering a major case of the holiday blues!

We had a sea view room in the main hotel building, and the room was very spacious and clean and really tastefully decorated. The setting was stunning, particularly if you love to see dramatic sunsets over the ocean!

The hotel was not busy at all, despite the time of year, so there was never any problem finding the perfect sun lounger by the pool, or the best table in the restaurant, and when we were in our room we never heard any noise from another guest, it was almost as if we were the only ones in that part of the hotel. We always had the gym to ourselves as well.

The hotel staff were so helpful and friendly and would do anything they could to make the guests happy. The bar staff regularly walked round the poolside and took drinks orders and if there was no one at the bar and we wanted something, the reception would find someone to come and serve us straight away. The waiters in the restaurant were great fun, but at the same time really professional and the food, it was just delicious, there was so much choice and was always good quality.

I would definitely recommend booking transfers directly with the hotel - you will save a small fortune. We had our own personal driver who was really friendly and told us loads about the island and the hotel during the 30 minute journey. Just send the hotel an email with your flight details and they will make all the arrangements.

Please take some of the negative comments with a pinch of salt. I was astounded to read one of the reviews below complaining that the hotel literature was written by someone whose first language was not English! Some people will always find something to complain about, but you would struggle to find any genuine problems that couldn’t be easily resolved at Mabely Grand.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough to people wanting total relaxation, and I'm more than ready to go back there right now!

Wonderful stay at this hotel.

We too booked through travelrepublic last minute and on arrival we compared the hotel rates for our stay to what we paid via travelrepublic and we concluded that we got a pretty good deal.
Amazing food - no need/desire to eat out as the menu was different every day and the quality was excellent.
Staff are attentive and friendly.
Even at busier times, the hotel felt quiet as though it was a retreat/sanctuary. Better for adults only than families but there are activities coordinators for children who do a great job at entertaining the younger ones.
Being in the middle of nowhere added to this, so if that's what you are after then you could do worse. The scenery is beautiful and we'd recommend the boat trip.

A couple of things that would have improved our experience however, would be a mini-bar in our room (there is a fridge) and we found that they were somewhat understaffed and so more staff would ensure that the luxury element is maintained.

Even though my fiancé and I like to visit new countries each year, this hotel is one of the few places we'd consider returning to.

Room Tip: Get a room with a sea-view if possible as the sunsets are stunning. If you can request a room in the...

We booked the Mabely as a last minute deal through Travel Republic, which seemed to offer the cheapest price (it was offered as a promotional room). After spending hours looking for a last minute cheap holiday , we decided to push the boat out and spend a ittle bit extra on the Mabely. One thing that persuaded us was the brilliant reviews on Trip advisor. We stayed here for a week from the 7th August - 14th August and had a lovely time.

After a private tansfer from the airport booked through the the hotel for 10euros each, we arrived at out destination. First impressions of the Mabely were good. As you enter the main reception, it is very luxurious and grand and definitely worthy of the 5 stars. We checked in easily and our driver took us down to the room. First impressions of the room were not so good. Although it was extremely clean, it was basic, not what I would consider 5 star. The bed was huge (although two twins pushed together) and very comfortable, we had a flat screen TV, safe and a fridge. No mini-bar or robes as I expected! The bathroom was nice although we had a cracked toilet seat (which took a couple of days for them to fix) and the floor was soaking wet everytime we had a shower. However, we did get fresh towels everyday and the cleaniless was superb. There wasn't any information about the hotel and we had to ask at reception to point stuff out to us. The hotel grounds are huge so we didn't want to miss out! Slightly disappointing and does not live up to the 5stars of main reception. I'm not sure if this was due to it being a promotional room?!

Food was delicious all the time, lots of choice of fresh salads, fish, meat and vegetables. We particularly enjoyed Greek night where they served authentic greek food, we were hoping that this might come around again during our week at the hotel! The staff in the restaurant and bars were superb and very helpful. I even got a cake on my 30th birthday which my husband had arranged with the head of the restaurant - it was delicious!

The location is in the middle of nowhere. I was slightly worried as my husband and I like to explore when we are in holiday and we had told ourselves that this holiday may need to be a pool holiday! However there is a shuttle bus that takes you to different places but you have to book in advance (when you first arrive) as there are only limited places on the bus. We went on the shipwreck trip which was great, despite the choppy waters! Towards the end of the trip we were able to swim in the sea in a couple of little coves that the boat took us to! I really reccomend walking up to the the taverna that you can see from the hotel. We did this early evening when it wasn't so hot and although its a good walk with some steep hills, it's well worth it to see the sunset. There are arranged walks up to this point but they are done in the morning. Other than that we did stay by the pool for most of the holiday and chilled out!
Every evening there is an hour or so where the animation team, Chris and Dorka, hold quizzes and different evenings so that there is some entertainment. There are also activities throughout the day to get involved in - we did aqua aerobics which was fun and my husband played football in the evenings.

Overall we had a lovely, relaxing week and met some great people. If you are looking for somewhere to chill out, eat delicious food with an amazing view, sip on yummy cocktails then I would recommend!

We stayed here for 6 days and to be honest would have loved to have stayed longer. On arrival we were taken to the annexe and not the main hotel which is what I requested when booking with fleetway travel, not the hotels fault as it hadn't been requested by fleetway! After a few heated words with fleetway I was told by their rep you have a sea view .... More or less stop moaning! Anyway the hotel staff were very apologetic and we were moved into the main hotel after 2 days. This hotel is beautiful and comfortable. The peaceful location is amazing but not so good if you have teens with you as there's very little for them to do here. The food was good and plentiful and the staff are hard working and friendly. If you want a chill out holiday this is the place to go to! They do a few excursions which are free although you have to pay 13 euros for the boat to shipwreck bay but was worth every penny. The trip to alykas beach is brilliant the beach there is lovely golden sand and the sea is shallow and clear. I would recommend this hotel .
