We liked everything and the hosts are recommended. The setting and the decor are world class, the facilities excellent and sitting in front of the fire is a dream in this wonderful part of New Zealand.

They have a set menu, different for each night of the week. We went on "Venison" night: The most gorgeous tender venison, with cranberry sauce; nice fresh al dente cooked veggies (carrots and beans), and a yummy potato/parsnip chunky mash. But first .. the beginnings .. sitting in the lounge area with the french doors wide open to the late afternoon sun and breeze, hubby had a delicious whiskey-sour cocktail, and I wish I had, though the "Rusty Canadian" was pretty good, albeit a little strong for my taste (I chose it though). We then were guided through to the dining area with outlook to the summer garden patio, and sat down to a yummy delightfully fresh gazpacho, with a heart shaped (it was Valentines Day) pastry. We ordered an Otago Pinot Noir .. cant remember its name .. but was gorgeous and velvety. The meal finished off with chocolate hearts dessert for hubby, and I had a berry coulis. The restaurant decor is elegance; the silver cutlery with engraved "W' on each - the first letter of the owner's last name (though this was serendipitous, as he got it all on e-bay!) The owner, Maitre'd, an expat American, was so friendly and delightful and interesting. This restaurant would be tops anywhere, but to find it in out of the way Golden Bay is a real treasure. Worth a trip "over the hill" - and to stay in the accommodation which I'd like to do next time. Oh yes, there will definitely be a next time!
