Vritomartis is an oasis on the coast just outside Chora Sfakion. as you come out of the mountain pas syou can see the green area below you.
the hotel is pleasently greek in design reception welcoming and all the staff friendly and polite without an exception.
we stayed in one of the rooms above the bar with the extra large balcony. nice space nice basic but very clean room,
incredibly hard bed!
unfortunately if you are an early to bed type this room will not suit you as evening entertainments go on till midnight on a few nights
the outlying buildings are probabaly a better bet, more quiet ( except blocks 8 & 9)
Breakfast is held in the dining room, relaxed and help yourself buffet. quite extensive compared to some places
dinner is outside on the terrace for most days unless the wind becomes too strong. this is one of the things that we didnt enjoy.
Because of the "mature" clientel by 1930 they are all chomping at the bit for food. circling the terrace like vultures and at the given nod, all take off like the start of the Grand National ( Classic English horse race)
the food for dinner is varied and the salads are a meal in themselves let alone the hot courses although there is a slight lack of classic Greek cusisne but as its a buffet I guess not possible that easily.
as guests ar on half board you pay only for your wine, water etc
Lunch is a relaxed affair at the pool bar, light and leisurly with the ever present Manalo on duty. good salads is all we can say as thats all we partook before a siesta on the sunbed in the shade of course.
the grounds are naturist, the pool area very well appointed with plenty of space and trees for shade if required ( we had a special spot which served us well but will not be sharing it here as we want it again next year!!)
the beach is a short walk away on a neo public/private road, it can be done naked if you are so inclined. the beach is pebbly but refreshing compared to the pool.
the pool is cleaned every day with showers to get rid of some of your sun cream before swimming, we tried to be healthy to counter the food consumption and aimed to swim 20 - 30 lengths a day, but goggles became greas every day from teh sun cream element inthe water.
beware of the wasps which like the guests cool off in the pool by the steps.
entertainment. Irene is a little spanish star but has one hell of a struggle to drum up any enthusiasm on waterpolo petanque or darts amongst others, she accepts this and excels at the trips through the gorges and the weekly naturist boat trip. we only did the latter and loved it, a day out, 3 beaches, a lovely lunch in Loutro and all for the bargin of EUR 56 per person all drinks included.
in summary apart from the beds and some of the other guests we loved it, we'll be back next year.
to all the staff: "thank you" 10 -10-10
