Our bedroom was very noisy.
We were just in front of the air conditionning machine of the hotel. Impossible to stay on our terrace. It was really noisy.
One morning we were waked up at 6:00 AM because works in progress outside.
our floor was so noisy too.
It is a shame.

    From check in to check out our entire experience was horrific. The hotel was overbooked and had several customers complaining at reception upon arrival. We checked in and were given twin beds instead of the king that we paid for. This was not the issue really, it was the attitude from the staff who did not care at all and basically told us to suck it up.

    We stayed for just three nights and after realising in the first night that the food was absolutely disgusting we ate out every other day and night.

    We did try the Italian restaurant, the carbonara was so bad it made me wretch as it raw and eggy. Just thinking about it makes me ill. The restaurant swapped it for some tasteless pasta dish that certainly was not Italian.

    Finally I felt very sorry for the staff who were in essence very sweet, however they were overworked, exhausted and had little training. This broke my heart as you could really sense their struggle and unhappiness.

    On a positive the spot is beautiful, the scenery is stunning.

    Oman is rapidly becoming the destination of choice for the discerning traveller. For interesting and elegant surroundings look no further than the Shangri-La Al Jissah resort and Spa some twenty minutes drive from Muscat. There are three hotels in this resort, we elected a "Day in Paradise" at the middle one the Al Bandar. As you can guarantee the weather in these parts the exterior consists of a wonderful beachfront, grassy elevated lawns with loungers and umbrellas. A stunning combination of interconnected swimming pools and bridges and two or three marvellous restaurants. We had a mini banquet lunch as part of the day package, professionally managed by Nithin Sukumaran the charming and most efficient restaurant manager who looked after us in every possible way to ensure our enjoyment of this day. The buffet was a comprehensive selection of about twenty starters and a dozen or so deserts. You ordered the main course from a varied selection of local and international cooked dishes. All in all a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

    Room tip: We did not stay at the hotel, we only booked in for a day's luxury experience

    For the 3rd time we spent 6 days at the Shangri La Barr Al Jissah. As usual everything was perfect : services, catering, pools, bedrooms...I think my husband and I will never be tired by the scenery around the hotel ! What a beautiful place to relax, and recharge our batteries !
    We had a first class service by Rasha el Diwary who found us the best room we could expect ! Massive thank you to her who filled her role with great professionalism !
    For sure we’ll be back !

    We stayed in Al Bandar (the “middle” hotel at Shangri La). Hotel feels big because not over too many floors, however room was a good size, comfy and luxurious. Staff are incredible here, very accommodating and polite - nothing seems too much for them! Cherry on front of house did a fantastic job throughout always remembering our name when she saw us throughout the stay. Pool area is nice, pools are warm and lots of different areas, very few small kids about (could have been the time of year we travelled) which as a couple is good to get some piece and quiet. Restaurants can be expensive, however worth looking at the multiple happy hours for half price drinks to get better value. Also there is an al-a-carte menu within the main (buffet style) restaurant which is a good way to get a reasonably priced meal- we got told this from friends who had stayed here (it isn’t advertised)! Free shuttle to old Muscat is worth doing! Overall a really brilliant hotel, lots of activities if you want to do them, if not just a great place to chill out.

    Last of 7 night stay. Overall, had a really nice break, and would recommend.

    Positives
    - Stunning setting
    - It was my birthday, and they brought a cake to the room
    - Snorkelling excellent - why we came. Seen turtles nearly every time, and lots of other fish, all off the hotel beach
    - Rooms pleasant, products good, beds comfortable, quiet in the evening
    - Staff helpful, especially the beach staff
    - WiFi everywhere!

    Watch-outs
    - Lots of children and noise around the pool at this hotel, quieter at the other 2
    - Not 5*, more like a really nice / good 4* beach / family hotel
    - Food more expensive than anywhere we have been (and we love our fine dining / great meals), and alcohol also very expensive
    - Food and drink generally high quality, but inconsistent, at least 6 times drinks / snacks not been available on asking for them
