We stated for 2 nights. The hotel setting is lovely and peaceful - exactly what is needed when you live in a city. However there seemed to be a shortage of staff which meant lots of running around like headless chickens. We noticed at one point a girl who looked after tea at breakfast then showing a couple for a wedding and then 5 mins later had to staff the bar as no one was manning it. Staff are lovely. Pool freezing. Jacuzzi had so much bleach your eyes sting. Food can only be described as average. So much potential for this hotel. Just needs to refine itself a bit first.

I recently stayed in this hotel for 1 night courtesy of a groupon deal. We arrived @ hotel around 1pm in which we were "greeted" @ reception by a very unhelpful, rude employee that informed us that our room was not ready, unwilling to show us around the hotel or offer any facilities, we then drove to usk 4 lunch. On returning to the hotel we were informed that someone had already been signed in under our name and details and our room had already been given out to another couple!!! No apologies were made, we were then given another room. With the groupon deal, included was a bottle of wine in which the term was it must be consumed within the room, however after asking 3 times for the bottle it eventually turned up at 7:30 in the evening, our meal was booked 4 8pm. No complaints regarding food, very lovely and service was excellent considering that the poor waitress was on her own and had 2 serve everybody in the restaurant, she did a fab job! However within the groupon deal was a 3 course meal 4 2 ppl, on the voucher stated you could chose any starter up to £8.50, any main up to 19.50 and any dessert up to 6.50. So we were a bit shocked when at the end of our meal we were handed a bill to pay any excess food over £25 per person. Also pool was absolutely freezing! Was supposed to be a lovely birthday treat, very disappointed and will not be visiting this hotel again.

We went on the Sunday Night Special and we were so looking forward to a good night away from the kids and the Spa. We were disappointed that the bed was so uncomfortable (we could feel every spring, we stayed in room 2). The duvet was great. The room was good and spacious.
We enjoyed the gym facility however some of the equipment was out of order and the swimming facility looked great on first impression but the water in the pool was very chilly and the showers ran out of hot water early on in the day and the steam room was not available (according to the locals this is a known and ongoing problem). If the hot water and the bed could be sorted out the stay would have been great and I would have highly recommended it to friends and family or even go back again.
The website doesn't seem to show any prices on the spa treatment.
The staff was very friendly and helpful but it was a tad slow at the bar and it wasn't busy at all.
The food was very good. The surrounding area looks fab.

Stayed overnight here with a group of 7 friends and had a great time. The rooms are large and comfortable - ours had twin beds and a sofa and chair. Food was very good indeed - couldn't fault a thing. The spa area could do with a little refurbishment which I believe is ongoing but the pool was very chilly so I didn't use it. The staff were all really friendly and very helpful especially Ashleigh on reception who was delightful. She even gave us a tour of the older parts of the hotel when we expressed an interest in the Tudor connections. The only criticism I could make would be that they could do with a few more staff. However the ones they have are fab.

Room Tip: The Catherine Parr room looks amazing but may be a little creepy after dark :)

We stayed for one night through a Groupon deal so paid £99 for accommodation, three course meal, access to spa and breakfast. I upgraded to a Heritage Suite for an extra £30 which was well worth the money and stayed in the Catherine Parr suite which is huge and a fantastic room. Very comfortable and clean and included a complimentary bottle of wine in the room.

If you go with a Groupon voucher, be aware that there are two menus, the Al a Carte menu and a cheaper house menu. If you choose from the house menu, your three courses are covered by your voucher, but if you choose from the a la carte menu, then as soon as you exceed £25 then you need to pay the remainder, so Groupon basically gives you a £25 credit in the restaurant.

The food, even from the house menu, was excellent. The service was a little slow, but we weren't in any rush so it really didn't matter. Nevertheless, we were given two glasses of champagne by way of an apology for the delay between our main course and desert. This was done without us saying anything, we didn't ask where our desserts were, they realised themselves that they had been a little slow (about half an hour between main course and desert).

Breakfast was lovely with a good varied menu all cooked to order.

Staff are very good, polite and helpful.

All in all, we had a lovely night in beatiful surrondings.

If I could change one thing, the pool would be warmer!!

Room Tip: Pay the extra and upgrade to a Heritage Suite, it will make your stay far more memorable

On arrival the hotel is amazing location lovely and staff although sparce were very nice.
Rooms are very average although quite nice clean to first glance but cobwebs with dust on so obviously there a while! Carpets are thread bare in the halls etc the roof was leaking in the bar with wine/champagne coolers spaced around catching the rain!!!
The Groupon deal was-
The Deal

• £99 for an overnight stay for two (Up to 51% off)
In a double or twin room with three-course evening meal, full Welsh breakfast and spa access
Double or twin en suite room
Flat screen TV, Wi-Fi access, and tea and coffee facilities

Three-course evening meal
Full Welsh Breakfast
Complimentary spa access
Includes bottle of wine
Range of upgrades available

The steam room was out of action and the swimming pool was freezing, some showers were out of action and the rest were stone cold, the men's were the same only full of mold and dirty, there were no staff in the spa so towels available either!

On vacating we were handed a bill for £62 etc for food in the restaurant which was supposed to be included, the receptionist said she couldn't do anything about it!! So I have complained to the hotel and groupon but have not received a reply from the hotel as yet!!

Such a shame as it does have the potential to be a top hotel!!! And would be a lovely wedding setting but not as it is now!

The food was incredible could not fault it x

Thank you for your review and I have spoken to David Sppor the General Manager at the hotel and perhaps as you know us, but we dont know you [such is the set up with Trip Advisor] you could contact him to discuss.

If you queried the bill with the Receptionist it seems unlikely that she has not creditted you with the Groupon menu or the agreed value of £25 per person if you ate off the a la carte.

The hotel, which we manage, was recently bought out of administration and a refurbishment plan has already commenced with the installation of a new steam room and upgrading the sauna. Sorry about the pool temperatutre, but please contact David at the hotel so this can be resolved one way or the other.

The Groupon deal is highly competitive, but also means that any extras have to be settled on departure.

Thanks and kindest regards

David

Stayed 2 nights for wedding in Llangybi.

We found the hotel ok but the sign posting to reception wasn't easy as we arrived in the dark.

We made our way to our room in the main building but on entering it was cold and the radiators weren't working in the room or the bathroom. There was a convector heater provided but needless to say we went back to reception to ask for a heated room. With no fuss we were given a new room, the Seymour Room, which was warm, spacious and inviting.

We ate in the bar on our 1st night and the food and the service was good. The food and drinks were reasonably priced too.

Breakfast on our 1st morning was again very good and the service was excellent. Breakfast on the 2nd morning was ok but not quite as good as the previous breakfast.

I visited the gym and pool which were ok but not up to the standards of the Best Western leisure club I belong to in Louth, Lincolnshire. The equipment could do with updating as could the pool area. The pool temperature was cool, very cool.

Overall this is hotel is in a super location to explore this part of South Wales and the countryside is beautiful but the hotel is in need of some tlc. The cobwebs over the toaster at breakfast danced in the warmth from heat. But the staff were very friendly and the service was very good.

I understand its under new ownership so hopefully it will improve soon. I hope it does.
