this property was developed by a German several decades ago. his son, a wildlife professional, maintains el caracol beautifully. it is no ordinary trailer park. there are a small number of bungalows, some at the roadside side and others on beach. Almost all the bungalows will be filled with Guadalajarans on a family vacation, maybe one upper north american group. the trailers all hold long-time visitors--thirty years for some---who come from Europe and Canada primarily. They are lovely people who help create an environment which is pleasant and peaceful, in a place with abundant flowering shrubs and vines bursting all around you.
we just returned from a two week trip; we stayed in a large studio unit, the only one right on the beach. The room is a little dark but the large outdoor terrace, with a shade structure, more than made up for it (other units I have stayed in were flooded with light).
The prices are lower than in Sayulita and San Pancho and the beach is cleaner. There is an ATM on side, a small dipping pool--in the Yucatan it would be called a "plunge pool"---outdoor rinsing shower. Charming snails appear in the ground rock art, harking back to mesoamerican art. El Caracol is a lovely find. How do you find it? look for the lily ponds!
