This was an amazing experience I will never forget! We met up at the base in Charleston and were provided everything needed in wetsuit gear including a helmet. Wear just your swimsuit underneath for comfort. We took a quick bus ride to a small tram that took us on a pleasant ride through rain forest to the cliffs of the Nile River Canyon, in beautiful Paparoa National Park. We hiked with lg tubes in wetsuits through rain forest trails, across a suspension bridge and climbed many steps to reach the entrance to the cave system. Once inside the cave, it is pitch black so the lanterns on our helmets lit the way. Very cool, large, ancient stalactites and stalagmites throughout the upper dry levels of the cave- Large cavernous areas and narrow passageways- incredible to walk through and experience firsthand! As we hiked down to the lower levels of the cave, we came to a narrow branch of the Nile River where we tossed in our tubes and floated slowly down the cave passage in a wondrous awe inspiring journey beneath a galaxy of zillions of glowworms high above us on the cavernous ceiling. We were mesmerized by the incredible beauty of this experience. It would have been amazing just walking and looking up at the glowworms. Imagine floating gently downstream without any effort, head resting back, gazing up at this wonder which continued around every bend in breathtaking silence. As we reached the cave's exit I wished I could slow time . . . We then continued floating down the Nile River outside which turned into rapids! Gentle but exilerating! Our guide was very informative and a lot of fun. He took pictures throughout which were later posted on the website for us to access. I highly recommend this caverafting with the glowworms!!
