Exotic as you can get. After a long, hot, dusty, exciting safari, Lupita Island is THE place to lounge, be pampered and remember your experiences in luxury and privacy. Book the chalet with the tub on the balcony if you really want the best!

As beautiful as Fiji yet in the middle of Tanzania. Every lodge is 100% private. The attention to detail was incredible. My daughters and I absolutely loved it and will come back again. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for something special and spectacular!

The experience here is otherworldly---

First off, the lake is crystal clear and the water is clean enough to drink--- which I found amazing. The water is fresh, but the fish all look like they belong on a tropical reef. On moonless nights, thousands of villagers pull their hand made dugout boats into the middle of the lake, and fish by the light of lanterns. The lake is alive with lights.

The weather is perfect. You are on the equator, but the altitude is around 3000 feet, so it wasn't too hot. The occassional thundershowers were spectacular! They'd come in suddenly--- sometimes within 20 minutes--- and light up the heavens. Again, very romantic.

The bungalows are remarkable. They are huge, totally private, and totally open. Incredibly romantic. Rock waterfall showers. Open bathrooms. It's like you're on your own island. Sunbathing? Who needs bathing suits.

Another amazing fact is that cell phones actually worked in the gym on the island. Getting to Lake Tanganyika was a 2 or 3 hour plane ride from Kilamanjaro airport, during which there was no sign of civilization--- no roads, no nothing, just open plains and bush and jungle. In fact I think there is only one single lane dirt road into the lake within 100 km of the island, yet there seems to be a cell phone tower in the village next to Lupita Island and if you try hard you can actually get a cell signal at certain places on the island. It didn't work everyplace, but in case of emergency you could still access the modern world.

You need to see Lupita to believe it. It is unique in the world.

This resort is an ideal location between safaris for someone who craves adventure and a higher end remote experience. The grounds and lodge are gorgeous... looks just like the pictures and the best part is that you look out to one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the world. There are plenty of activities such as snorkling, scuba diving, hiking and more but i don't want to spoil all the possible surprises. This location is great for families, couples, singles. The staff find a great balance of being down to earth without losing the 5 star feeling. Currently this is the best kept secret in tanzania for those who are seeking a more unique experience.

Even if you do not want to do safari if you are someone who has been there-done that, Lupita island in itself is a remote haven for everyone for any occasion.
