Just great value for money, you get much more than you pay for (compared to other hotels in eastern Thailand). Big and modern rooms, kingsize bed, fridge and wifi, very clean bathroom and hot shower. Friendly staff.
Negative: restaurant almost no English skills and average food.
This was my second visit to Surin. The hotel that I had stayed at previously was fully booked this time by a group. I had already decided to try the Maneerote Hotel as a promising, much newer and more economical, alternative. I'm happy with the result, and may stay here on possible future visits.
Others note that this place is a bit far from the rest of Surin. Actually, it's rather close (e.g. walking distance) to the day and night markets. If you like to walk in the weather of your visit, the train and bus stations are medium-distance walks. Soi Kola, Tawandang night club, and some nearby restaurants are a bit far, however. This was solved by ignoring the overpriced tuk tuk drivers (after taking only one from the train station to the hotel), and using a sam-lor (three wheeler - non-motorized) local transport and getting a driver's phone number to book later rides.
As for the hotel, it's as already reported. Limited English proficiency, but new, clean and reasonably spacious rooms and bathrooms for the modest price of 400 baht for the room. Gratis WiFi is included in the rate – admirable in a hotel with such pricing. There is no in-room safe as may be anticipated in a hotel of this price. The bed was comfortably firm (e.g. not rock hard); the location/room was quiet. The optional buffet breakfast is adequate for 100 baht additional per person - if you like Thai-oriented breakfast buffets. Breakfast is served in a room which becomes a coffee shop for the rest of the day - handy for guests. The hotel had its own map and brochure, and also brochures of The Farang Connection expat-oriented restaurant - perhaps a useful brochure to have for reference.
Rooms are big. I didn't expect such big room for the price. Bed is King size. No smoking room in the hotel. Reception is very friendly and helpful. Bathroom is a bit dated but serve its purpose.
Break fast is simple thai food and taste good.

Arriving here after visiting the border market to Cambodja, I arrived and my luggage was taken out by hotel staff, got nice room with view. Clean all over: bed, bathroom, toilet, free wifi, hallway very clean too and nice atmosphere. This is a kind of place I could stay several nights without feeling stress about anything.
I had found this hotel on the internet and, being low season, decided to walk-in and see if they had vacancies. There seemed to be plenty, booked a double room for 400 baht.
The room, typical of Thai hotels, was very clean. Hot water, free drinking water, and free fast wifi. The staff are very friendly and helped with pointing some sights out, albeit it was easier since I can speak some Thai. The hotel has a large parking lot.
The only negative is that it's a bit far from the center of town. I walked the perimeter of the city in a few hours, to the day market takes about 5-10 minutes and another 5 minutes to the night market. I walked to the bus terminal once, it took a brisk 20 minute walk.
