We took our family on a weekend ride, we biked approx 30km each day and had a blast. The scenery was beautiful and we found a couple of great cafes and plenty of picnic spots along the way. We can't wait to do the rest of the trail this summer.

My husband and I have now ridden 2 sections and thoroughly enjoyed both. The Karapiro - Arapuni section is great. We did it in a thunderstorm and it was quite exciting. Last weekend
we did the Whakamaru - Atiamuri Section. Challenging at times but an awesome ride alongside the river. I would just like to mention that when we got to the Christian Camp area
a very friendly lady has set up a bus providing coffee, hot chocolate, scones etc. She has all her licences etc. and it was just what we needed at that point. The coffee was great. No eftpos so just remember to have a little bit of cash and you can enjoy a nice break along the way. She hopes to be there weekends and maybe Thursdays and Fridays. Hopefully all through January.
Even the local Cop gave us a cheery wave as he drove by. Next time he might stop !!

We are a 60 plus couple who walked the Maraetai, Waipapa and 16km of the Arapuni sections over 3 days - less than 4 hours per day. Trails are very well maintained and of a good gradient. Some steeper sections but nothing too tiring. Stayed at Mangakino and Waikato River Trails organised our transport. Extremely efficient and wonderful service. Walk has some ho hum moments, especially on public and forest roads, but also some great scenic or man made (i.e. suspension bridges) attractions. Loved what we termed the 'shag pines' - containing dozens of active shag nests full of parents and their young.
Overall a relatively easy walk and most enjoyavble.

What a great hidden treasure not too far away. We had an awesome ride and the swing bridge was amazing! As well as the incredibly long boardwalk. It was the perfect one day escape for us living just over an hour away north - bike ride in the morning and lunch at one of the nice cafes in Cambridge on the way home. What better way to spend the day with some friends! Would highly recommend...
