Chateau du Bois Noir
Reviewed August 9, 2013

We just spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. It is a haven of calm and tranquility, with a very warm welcome from the hosts who can't do enough to be helpful but are also very discreet. We loved our spacious room (Louis IV) with stunning views. All the food is home cooked and delicious. It only has four rooms and so is intimate and cosy. Lovingly cared for by its attentive owners, this hotel is a real treasure.

We are a young Canadian couple who visited in July 2012. We absolutely loved our stay and our only regret was that we only stayed two night. Beautiful accommodation, clean, totally modernized. Owners/host made it a very personal stay. Dinner and breakfasts were excellent. We hope to return some day soon.

We received a warm welcome on arrival and just loved our beautiful room. The food was excellent, prepared by the charming hostess and based on local seasonal super fresh products.

Next time we travel in this part of France we will definitively take the opportunity to stay there again.

We are very lucky to travel a great deal and to have stayed in some of the finest hotels all over the world (always with Tripadvisor's advice naturally) we now have a new favourite hotel in France.

I guarantee you, there is not a cleaner hotel on the planet.

I guarantee you there is not a nicer and more attentive couple of owners on the planet.

If you want the perfect combination of a truly French experience with incomparable Dutch hospitality in a truly magnificent chateau, decorated with taste and style without being pompous and pretentious you will not find a better experience than this anywhere in France.

GO THERE!!!!

You can thank me later!

Room Tip: There are only four rooms in the chateau and I am sure they are all as spacious, comfortable, well d...

In September we booked two nights at Château du Bois Noir. We thought it would be a nice stopover on our way north from the Dordogne, but we were not expecting such an elegant château experience. After missing the road to the château (our own fault) and making a quick phone call to get directions, we drove up the hill until we reached their gate. We had arrived, and we were immediately greeted cheerfully and enthusiastically by Henriette van Ampting. She is a naturally happy person, and her love for life spreads to everyone around her. She showed us to our room, which (including the en suite bathroom) had windows on three sides – so we had marvelous light and views of both the gardens and the countryside. We soon met Henk van Ampting, who over the next two days proved to be the perfect host - an interesting man who took time to answer our questions and explain so much to us about his château. We were, of course, impressed by how immaculate Château du Bois Noir was and how well-manicured the gardens were, but the highlight of our stay was dining each evening at La Petite Châtelaine, the château's restaurant dining room. Henk gave us our choice of apéritifs each evening in the salon or out on the balcony followed by two exquisite meals prepared for us by Henriette, an expert and creative chef. We couldn't help notice the refinement with which he served the meals and poured the wine, and were pleased when Henriette appeared at the cheese course to describe each one in detail. In addition to the meals being delicious, her avocado soup and a sauce she served one night with salmon were both unforgettable. Château du Bois Noir is not only beautiful, comfortable and well located in gorgeous surroundings, but it offers a sophisticated charm without being stuffy, and the van Amptings are the most gracious and delightful couple. We hated leaving and hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: Chambre Louise-Elisabeth was lovely. Bathroom had a great shower!
