Description: The George is located on the Harbour in the heart of West Bay, Dorset. This striking Georgian building stands proudly on the harbourside of this popular fishing village, made famous by being the backdrop to the recent BBC Tv series "Broadchurch".The hotel has recently been taken over (01/10/2013) by Chris and Kim and they are busy welcoming guests new and old to The George. The hotel is open all day and serves fresh locally sourced home cooked from the restaurant, including daily specials using fish sourced from the fishing boats in the harbour. The bar serves a good selection of wines and exceptional real ales from Palmers Brewery, located a mile away in Bridport. There is plenty to do in the area, with several of breathtaking coastal walks and leisurely strolls along the beach front. There are several charter boats waiting to take keen sea fishing visitors, or a Rib taxi that will take you to nearby Lyme Regis and return a couple of hours later. Whether you are looking for a adrenalin packed weekend, or simply a relaxing break by the beautiful harbour, The George Hotel is the place to stay. Chris and Kim look forward to welcoming you to The George soon.

“Food was perfect”
Reviewed June 30, 2014

We had to wait a while for our food as they were so busy, but when the food arrived it was worth waiting for. Good size portions and cooked fresh.

“Would not go here to eat again”
Reviewed June 29, 2014 via mobile

Service in general poor. Arrived earlier as asked table not ready bar service slow. Restaurant service slow but both those in restaurant service pleasant and friendly. Ordered starter which did not arrive , asked to move table as a bigger party had already encroached within our space. Meal arrive absolutely terrible burnt no way should have left kitchen dry as hell veg over cooked and looked grey. Sent back and second fish pie just as bad dry and could only identify smoked fish by taste, could only see a couple if that of fish only one type. Sorry but this is the third time tried here and I would not come back again to eat or recommend such a shame as great location.

“Bustling pub with great food”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

Located in the centre of West Bay the George has a varied and well priced menu. The portions are more than adequate and offer great value for money. Weekends through the summer season are very busy but we found the staff helpful and enjoyed the banter with them. The only word of caution is from greedy seagulls who are always on the prowl. If you are eating outside beware!
