Description: The George is located on the Harbour in the heart of West Bay, Dorset. This striking Georgian building stands proudly on the harbourside of this popular fishing village, made famous by being the backdrop to the recent BBC Tv series "Broadchurch".The hotel has recently been taken over (01/10/2013) by Chris and Kim and they are busy welcoming guests new and old to The George. The hotel is open all day and serves fresh locally sourced home cooked from the restaurant, including daily specials using fish sourced from the fishing boats in the harbour. The bar serves a good selection of wines and exceptional real ales from Palmers Brewery, located a mile away in Bridport. There is plenty to do in the area, with several of breathtaking coastal walks and leisurely strolls along the beach front. There are several charter boats waiting to take keen sea fishing visitors, or a Rib taxi that will take you to nearby Lyme Regis and return a couple of hours later. Whether you are looking for a adrenalin packed weekend, or simply a relaxing break by the beautiful harbour, The George Hotel is the place to stay. Chris and Kim look forward to welcoming you to The George soon.

Our first visit here for quite a few years, new owners not long in post. Pleasantly surprised, much better decor, friendly efficient service, lovely Sunday carvery, choice of 2 size plates and lovely fresh cooked veg and delicious perfectly cooked meat. Will definitely re-visit and try their evening meals.

Ate here two nights running while walking in the area because it was so good. Very good value food served with style. Prompt service from attentive staff and a very nice atmosphere. The Palmers' beer was also very well kept. The George ticked all our boxes and was one of the very best pubs we've visitet

at £26 for two rump steaks and a bottle of wine, this was terrific value for money, beautifully cooked, good portion size and the wine was more than acceptable. Thank you, we will be back !

Nice friendly atmosphere with enthusiastic staff especially the guy doing the carving. I had the beef and pork which were both excellent. However no lamb as usual so I asked why not and was told it was too expensive to do at their set price. I agreed it was more expensive and suggested they charge a premium of say £1(as other pub's do). They agreed to consider this option.

Having eaten here twice in two days whilst on a short holiday in West Bay, I am really impressed with this pub. The quality of the food and the presentation of it was first class. The menu offers plenty of choice too & the food was all served nice and hot, with generous portions. The food prices were very reasonable and far cheaper than the other pubs and restaurants in West Bay, but quality was not compromised in any way. The food would not be out of place in some very expensive restaurants; honestly it was that good. The cutlery provided was of good quality and it gleamed, unlike in a lot of other pubs. The Palmers copper bitter was an excellent pint and the whole evening was a joy thanks to the friendly, helpful staff and the spotlessly clean interior of the premises. The loos were very clean as well. The George has been under new management since 1st October 2013 and they are clearly doing a great job. Do give this pub a try for a meal if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed. 10/10
