The room was beautiful with lots of old stuff. They served lovely food and had a very friendly staff!

Breakfast was lovely with toast, coffee and cereals. Fresh fruit and yoghurt.

We did not plan to stay, but are happy we did. Recommend it to all!!

The quality of the food and the service is the best we have experienced in a long while. Front-of-House staff ensured all food issues were covered and catered for and made the whole experience pleasant, rather than having the customer feel "freakish" because of dietary requirements. It was so satisfying to get meals which were beautifully cooked and presented. Nothing was a problem. Prices were reasonable, and the "amuse-bouche" was a lovely touch.

What a fantastic experience - from the friendly helpful staff, to the beautifully refurbished rooms true to the 1800's history of the hotel, to the dining experience, just fantastic. This was a real step back in time. The rooms with wrought iron beds, period furniture, relevant and helpful information supplied on history and things to do in the area. Dinner was fabulous - one of the top restaurants we have dined in in Westland. Great meals with delicious locally sourced produce and at a great price too. Well done to Kerrie and the crew. What an amazing experience.

6 mature ladies dressed to the nines(pearls, evening bags etc) went to the hotel as a sort of protest at having been invited to a big do at Government House in Wellington. As individuals and as a voluntary helping organisation we decided we were not able or willing to spend money on the fares for 4 of us to attend. Some of us had been here before but some had not. We got some strange looks as we entered the dining room but the lovely waiter and barman entered into the spirit of the occasion and treated us like royalty. The waiter spent lots of time explaining the menu and encouraging us to choose whatever we wanted in whatever combination of courses--some had two entrees and dessert, some had entrees converted to main size and others were more conventional. The range of food was just great with some unusual combinations to tempt the palate eg a dessert made from kumara. A complementary tasting dish to stimulate the taste buds was given in very dinky miniature cooking pans. Bigger handbags and some of these might have disappeared. One of the desserts was served in small preserving jars--lovely lemon mixture and the presentation a great talking point, The quantities were just right, we were not hurried and the waiter joined in some of the silly conversations we were having--good to see someone in service with a sense of humour and occasion. The atmosphere in the hotel is just lovely with lots of the old features and furnishings recreated. The icing on the cake was the waiter giving us a quick tour to one of the guest rooms with a potted history of the hotel's refurbishment and the naming of the rooms. Hope his boss was not upset about him doing this. I now know what my husband's Christmas present will be--a stay in one of the rooms and a superb meal and time to explore the area. Next year when I become the President of the local Rotary Club, I intend having my inauguration meeting at this restaurant and might even stay the night to save the 45 minute drive home afterwards. Hope people using the about to be opened cycle trail make use of this great facility and hope the locals ensure its survival by on-going patronage and word of mouth advertising.

Room Tip: Only saw one room but if all to the same standard any would be ideal. Ground floor room is set up t...

Stopped for a really delicious lunch on the way to Fox Glacier and liked the place so much that we kept it in mind for the journey back. Stayed a night in the newly refurbished themed rooms, decor won't be to everyone's taste but finished to very high standard. Very comfortable bed and nice big bathroom with top quality linen and towels. Not having to go out for evening meal ( which was again delicious with the best hot chocolate pudding I have ever tasted) was a big big bonus. Continental breakfast was basic but ample. OK, a bit pricey but you get what you pay for in my opinion and I wouldn't look for anywhere else to stay if I was down that way again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and hope you will call again. We have The Westland Wilderness Cycle Trail iopening on the 23rd of November and passes through our village. It is simply stunning. Maybe you could try some cycling if you are down again. Great way to indulge in the chefs deserts minus guilt. Kerrie

I have recently had to star staying the night on the Coast and have now decided to go with this hotel after my stay on Thursday night (17th Oct), from the moment I arrived I was made to feel really welcomed, which often Reps on their own get overlooked, but the nice lady took my bag and showed me to my room which she had been up and turned my heater on, I stayed in "Annie's room" which was absolutely lovely, the bed was so comfortable and the linens were top quality, the ensuite was lovely with fluffy towels (yay), the whole place was immaculate.
I went down and had dinner which was first rate as well, although would have been nice to have something light included on the menu.
All in all a really great stay, I will be back next month.

We had dinner at this hotel a couple of weeks ago and watched a band play. The hotel has been nicely renovated, but the price of our dinner was very expensive for what we had - fish & chips and pork belly. We wouldn't go again just because they seem to think that overpriced meals will pay for the renovations. Other than this the hotel owners have spent a considerable amount of money and have completed the renovations to a high standard.
