a lot of the other reviews cover all the details, but this is a great, authentic feeling place. It was a bit of a drive from the airport, but it was worth it to stay in this setting instead of at some modern airport hotel that would make you feel like you were at any generic lo location in the world. Pablo was very nice. The grounds looked great, but I only stayed the night for a layover. my bed was really comfortable, brekfast was quite nice with a lot of fresh fruit. I recommend this place highly.

Room Tip: they're probably all good

We loved this place. From its location- 18 minutes from airport- to the super friendly staff- to the unique atmosphere in this redone old hacienda- we could not have been happier.

The kids loved the place as well and we were charmed by the friendly staff. Pablo bends over backwards to get you to and from the airport at any hour of the day or night in their big comfy van which was wonderful- takes all the stress out of it ( and having been in stopped traffic one day due to car accident on way to airport and having been unable to get a cab another day in the historic district due to local celebration this is very calming indeed!)

We had a pleasant dinner , nice moist chicken and a good bottle of wine one night- not gourmet but tasty and nice- and they got up for us twice at 545 AM and made us eggs and fruit and coffee before our fights- met us at airport, took really great care of us- WIFI is fine by the office- there is also a big room with pool table tv etc if you spend a bit of time there- grounds are manicured, rooms are decorated in B and B style with old furnishings - each room has its quirks like any such establishment- comfy beds and nice bedding - You cannot go wrong here.
I will stay there again even after they build the big new highway to downtown next year and the new modern aiport hotels- its so appealing and unique with such lovely people.

Room Tip: Family rooms in the main house are good value, the rooms in the renovated stables have better plumbi...

The place is really nice, the service tho couldn't be any worse.
We had problems from the moment we got there, we were served dinner the first night by a woman wearing PAJAMAS!
The staff has no hospitality training whatsoever. The food was TERRIBLY GREASE AND BADLY COOKED.
Stay away from this place!

Charming older style rooms rather than luxury, wi-fi was hit-and-miss (best near the office), price on the high side, and we agree with Rico P that a more substantial breakfast box would have been good when leaving early. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed both our recent stays, mainly down to Pablo's unfailing friendliness and helpfulness, to two tasty evening meals (well worth the extra cost) and to a nice breakfast when later flight permitted. The quiet location allowed a good night's sleep and quick access to and from the airport. We would stay here again.

This B&B is in a walled compound in a somewhat isolated part of Puembo. This is common for the area and should not be a source of concern for travelers.

The house is historically interesting with is large fireplace (see picture), exposed beams, noisy wooden floors, and thick, thick walls. The immediate external area is well groomed and made to complement the house. Still, like most B&B's, it has its quirks, which for us are part of the charm of every B&B in which we have stayed.

As is almost always the case in an old house, compromises have to be made when remodeling so as to make it functional, but not have it lose its charm. In our case the bathroom was the place were some compromises were made. The shower was really a beautiful claw-footed tub with a circular curtain rod at one end. In order to prevent splashing the bathroom area, one basically had to "wrap" the curtain around one's body and then turn on the shower. Again, this is not an issue for us, and we took it as an opportunity to show our kids that there is always more than one way to solve problem, but I can see how some travelers might be put off by this. The shower itself was modern, with a rain-like shower head and a handheld shower head, and there was plenty of hot water.

One point most reviewers do not make is that Su Merced can be very helpful if you want to organize your own private tour for the Quito area. We were staying in northern Quito the night before our stay at Su Merced. Pablo arranged transportation for us. At our request the person Pablo picked was able to tour with us for the day. That meant we were able to visit sites at our own pace and not at some general group pace. We were also able to change our plans, which we did, as the day progressed. At the end of the day we returned to our previous hotel to pick up our luggage and then went to a nice pizzeria for dinner before finally arriving at Su Merced. The ability to have Pablo arrange this local driver (who interestingly is named John but is not from an English-speaking country) for us made our stay in Quito so much more enjoyable. The price was reasonable for what we received, and John was an interesting and energetic person who was always willing to show us more of what the area had to offer.

One definite area of improvement is breakfast for those who head out to the airport before breakfast service has started. Although they packed a couple of juice boxes and some other simple items as a "on the go" breakfast for the morning of our departure it seemed as if little thought had been given to the contents of the breakfast bags. I have to believe people leaving before the breakfast service has started has to be a common situation for Su Merced and as such would benefit from creating some type of standardized breakfast-in-a-bag (or box) solution. They should probably include a delicious and unique bread or pastry from Su Merced, a then a simple fruit (banana), and a milk or juice box. Clearly it would not be as good as having breakfast there, but it would round out their otherwise good service.

Finally, if you travel with kids, make sure to bring something for them to do. After the excitement of being in such a unique place wears out and given there are no televisions in the rooms, you may need some card games or books to keep them entertained as you unpack.

We wanted a hotel close to the new Quito airport. This one was about 15-20 mins drive from the airport, turning off before the bottleneck at the bridge going into Quito. It is situated in a very quiet neighborhood. And has lots of real antigues throughout the hotel. We were picked up at the airport, and met by the owner, Pablo. He gave us a tour of the hotel, showing off the antiques. We then had a very delicious dinner prepared on sight. Breakfast the next morning was part of the price, followed by the transfer back to the airport. Wish we had more time to stay longer.

Our travel company booked our stay at this hacienda in order to be assured of making a 7 AM outbound flight. All of the reviews are correct. Su Merched is not in Quito or close to anything except the airport. Our ride took 20 minutes on almost all four-laned freeway - and this is important. My trip into Quito took an hour and twenty minutes due to rain - and it rains frequently in Quito. When the new north route to the airport opens in July or August 2014, staying in Quito may be less risky for catching flights.
This home is amazing and it's so much fun to see what it is like behind the high fences and gates seen in the nicer neighborhoods. Expansive, well maintained gardens, OLD beautiful home and out buildings, a private chapel, eclectic furnishings, overall nice conversion of rooms for weary travelers and hospitality.
However, despite all the positives, it's important to recognize that this is not a western-style hotel. We stayed in November and the rooms were chilly (65 degrees) and some furnishings were straight-backed and uncomfortable because of their age. There were scented candles burning, but there is still the scent of age in the air. Wi Fi was slow and frequently disconnected, even in the "lobby" area. But the owner was happy to print our boarding passes and confirm our flight time on his "wired" laptop.
Overall, it was a fun, almost cultural experience to spend a few hours with Elizabeth and her family in their home.

Room Tip: Request a room in the main house. You will have more time to admire the home and you won't be c...
