Palazzo Leopoldo Dimora Storica & Spa

The town of Radda is extremely quaint and charming and a great location to stay in when visiting the area of Tuscany. The Palazzo Leopoldo had comfortable spacious rooms which made you feel as if you were in a cozy quaint farm house. Our room had a mini kitchenette bar which you could use to prepare food, or eat in if you chose to. Rooms were private and the hotel offered a nice sitting area, and breakfast area for guests to use. There is also a terrace that is great to have breakfast, or wine on if weather permits. Being in the country, this hotel has a rustic decor, but it is done tastefully.
Breakfast was prepared fresh each morning and offered your standard Italian eats, but all were delicious.
We had a rental car for this portion of the trip and parking was never an issue. We were able to park around town and get a spot.
The hotel helped us arrange a personal wine tour to other wine regions which was fantastic.
For the most part, most of the help was very nice, and attentive. There was a few issues we came across when trying to check out early (but not early per their time) in having one of the attendants help us. It was not great to receive an attitude that early in the morning.
On the whole this hotel was very nice, clean, and comfortable. We liked the location at it was close to Greve and easy to get to Gaiole. The town has a lot of good restaurants to visit such as La Botte di Bacco and La Perla.

In a medieval town, this is the palace! Every inch of the Leopoldo is royalty. The staff far exceeds many other places we stay on our trip. Our room was double the size of any other. We had not only our room, a huge bathroom, sitting area, kitchenette, dining table, all for our convenience. There is not one thing that I can say that should be changed. This is by far one of the most elegant 6-STAR inns in Italy!

Room Tip: We had room 7. It was lovely. I would ask for it again.

Traveling in December in Tuscany is quiet and relaxing. Finding a home away from home is icing on the cake and that's what the Palazzo Leopoldo became. Sylvia greeted us and made us feel welcomed throughout our stay. We found that the amenities offered (wellness center, indoor pool, cooking lessons, etc) provided us with a home base for our Tuscan hillside exploration. The rooms were spacious and, along with the the Jr. suites, offered luxurious settings with precise attention to historical preservation. Breakfast was absolutely fresh and homemade. (No canned or processed food.) We plan to return in the spring.

Room Tip: The views are important. Looking out onto the Tuscan hills provides you with that Italian golden su...

I can't praise this beautiful hotel enough. The rooms are huge...the included breakfast is bountiful (and more fun when eaten in the rustic kitchen) and the staff provides excellent service. The village of Radda, where the palazzo is situated, is charming but shuts down early...at least in the winter when I was there. It is centrally located, though, for side trips to larger towns in the area . I can't wait to return!

This is a great place to stay while doing the Chianti wine region in depth. It is gracious and central enough to be a focus of a wine journey.
The hilltop village of Radda is at the end of a long and winding road, an hour south of Florence by car. What a lovely ride. At the end, you get rewarded by arrival in an ancient walled town that still has an active life. There are some fine restaurants, views, cafes, pizza (see: the Loggia), a ‘corner market’ with great little wines and interesting biscotti and chocolates. It’s enclosed by a gigantic wall protecting the town from the Huns - it’s all here!

This century’s old grand palazzo is a charming hotel in the centre of Radda (you can get a pass at the hotel and then drive up to drop off your luggage - then make the short drive into the parking area under the Wall) with large, high-ceilinged rooms, windows that open onto spectacular views of the hills of Toscano. Cool tile floors, clean bathroom and room, handsome antique furnishings in the salons and rooms. The bed is quite hard but we padded it with extra blankets. The breakfast is generous and delicious in a beautiful room. Gracious staff during the days - how many places can you have deep philosophical discussions with busy front desk staff?

There is free online access available but only on the main floor - so you will be enjoying the interior public rooms. If weather permits (at all) spend some time (online or not) on the lovely terrazzo at the back of the main floor. Tables, chairs and umbrellas make it a great place to finish your coffee, take some photos of the hillside or check your email.

One of the magical draws for us was the subterranean swimming pool! 3 floors down... really old stone steps leading to an unmarked door needing a giant key, warm, vaulted cellar with a pool, softly under-lit. Lovely warm water. It’s a bit of modernity (the pool) surrounded by ancestry (the 1400s-era stonework.) In fact, “modernity encased by ancient elegance” sums up the entire Palazzo experience! And -- all of Italy.

Room Tip: Maybe a room on the lower floor for wi-fi access

Here's a good address in the Chianti. Definitely that old world charm that tourists will love, with most of the comfort and service that you expect from a reasonably pricey place. However, and this is rarer in Chianti, it also tastefully appointed, nearly luxurious, and mostly clean. Service is friendly. Location is spectacular, in one of the most beautiful in villages of Tuscany. A good choice, on or off season. Ask for discounts out of season though, there is no such thing as a fixed price in Italy.
