Charming hotel with fantastic views. The room was tastefully decorated and had very good standard. We had a balcony overlooking the valley, which I really recommend. Guido, who owns and runs the place, is very friendly and helpful. He helped us to book a restaurant for our dinner and before that invited us to an aperitive at the hotel with other guests.

La Locanda can be recommended to people looking for a very quite place with soul and beautifull surroundings. It is located out of the way near Volpaia and therefore it has to be reached by unpaved road. We had a very nice room with a balcony and great view over Volpaia and Chianti. There was also a large common space in the house nearby where guests could enjoy reading or having something to drink. The breakfast was very good and consisted of high quality local products. Especially the Ricciarelli biscuits are unforgetable. The owner was charming and helpfull in every possible way. He also paid attention to every detail during our stay.

We just returned from staying at La Locanda for 4 nights. The property is gorgeous and waking up to those beautiful views every morning was such a treat. Guido is simply the best! So helpful for recommendations and he is truly in his element. Perfect location for Chianti touring and only an hour drive from Florence.

Dear Kimberly,
I'm happy to have had you here and I'm grateful for your kind words.
You pointed out one of our strenghts: we are in the middle of a very interesting area.
From La Locanda you can reach easily and in a few time all the most interesting places and towns (Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo...) and I like to suggest the best itineraries to my guests, providing maps and sharing secrets about parking, panoramic roads and amenities.
Hope to see you again,
a big hug,
Guido

We booked La Locanda as part of a last minute family trip to Italy having seen it on Alistair Sawday's website. The owner Guido is wonderful and can't do enough for his guests- from suggesting and booking a restaurant for us every night to coming into the town and translating for us at the Police station and pharmacy after we had a bag stolen in Pisa. The hotel/borgo is beautiful and homely with a library of books, an honesty bar and a pool with the most stunning views. The room was tastefully decorated with Italian antiques and the largest bath towls and robes and plenty of complimentary toiletries. When we arrived we had lost a washbag and Guido produced toothbrushes and toothpaste for the 4 of us. One of the nicest elements of our stay was Guido's "aperitivos" on the terrace every evening between 7 and 8 where all guests are invited to join Guido for a glass of prosecco or wine and nibbles which was a great way of meeting the other guests and sharing recommendations of the places we had visited. The hotel is just outside the village of Volpaia which is a 20 minute walk to a couple of restaurants there. The road to reach the hotel is a "white "road so not for those who are not confident drivers abroad but we have certainly seen worse roads than this one. This adds to the ambience of the place as it is so deeply tranquil because you are so far removed from everything - the only sounds you hear are the local wildlife (deer, boar) and Guido's classical music cascading down from the terrace. Breakfast is a buffet on the terrace of delicious local cake, breads, cheeses, hams, fruit, yogurts and delicious Italian marmalade. Again, Guido is a fantastic host and made individual jugs of hot chocolate for our 2 girls every morning, along with our coffee and tea. We loved this place and Guido's warm and charming spirit permeates the whole experience - we would love to go back.

Room Tip: Family room was large and very comfortable

What a beautiful spot...so peaceful and with a wraparound stunning view across the rolling Tuscan countryside. Guido is the perfect host: happy to provide detailed local information as well as recommend and book nearby eateries. He also does a mean line in sharing secret car parks in the wonderful medieval city of Sienna. Our visit was a highlight, and we parked without hassle. We followed his routes on the detailed map he provided and we found enchanting hilltop villages...

Hope to return in autumn sometime when the leaves are changing colour.
THANK YOU GUIDO
