This independent museum is well worth a visit. The intimate spaces set within attractive, beautifully restored historic buildings are packed with artefacts from life and times gone by in the locality, covering home life and local industries with a large range of farming implements on show in the garden area. Displays are professionally presented with a logical flow. There is a small cafe. Take time to stroll round this attractive village too.

“quaint”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

enjoyed this quaint museum with plenty of facts and information about the area which I did not already know even though I live in the surround area. Good to see how others lived back in the time when technology had not reached it yet.

“Extremely Helpful Staff - Thank You!”
Reviewed November 23, 2011

We passed through Ceres in July 2011 - we were tracing back some ancestors.

The lovely lady at the Museum was SO helpful, very genuine and friendly. She spent quite a bit of time going through the history of the area and helping us with travel advice. Very appreciative!

“Fascinating small museum in a very pretty village.”
Reviewed October 25, 2011

This little museum gives a wonderful portrait of rural life in Fife in years gone by. Many of the exhibits have been donated by locals. You can see clothes, furniture, household implements and tools from many crafts and professions. There is also an outdoor display of old farm machinery.

What makes the museum so special is the enthusiastic staff of local volunteers - very knowledgeable and generous with their time.

There is a small cafe (three or four tables) where you can have coffee with a muffin or biscuit - and also souvenirs for sale.

In keeping with the larger museums in the area, the museum closes at the end of October for the winter and the volunteers will be refreshing their displays with newly-donated items ready for next year.

While we were there, a local family with three young children called in and were obviously frequent visitors. How nice for children to grow up with this marvellous resource on their doorstep - history preserved and respected.

The village of Ceres is very pretty with many attractive small houses - well worth a visit in its own right.
