Brisas Santa Lucia
Reviewed February 6, 2014

Stayed at Brisas from Jan 30 to Feb 06, had an amazing family vacation , stuff are very nice , food is not the best but that was expected. Our rooms were okay, need little maintenance but overall okay. What makes this hotel the best in Santa Lucia is the entertainment stuff. They r just amazing all of them , no exception , laughed and had so much fun. We had the Noliplus package , the only good thing about the package is the rooms are very close to the pool, beach and restaurants, a la carte restaurant are not good beside the Cuban one. We always had to finish our dinner at the buffet. I certainly recommend this hotel if ur visiting Santa Lucia , u won't find better than this one , for the price we paid , it was another unforgettable vacation ." We love u Brisas" and thanks to the amazing entertainment stuff .

We've just returned from a very relaxing vacation at Brisas Santa Lucia. This being my 9th visit to Cuba, I must admit that this complex rates high on my list. There is a nice variety of food at the buffet (chicken, fish, breads) and there are several a la carte restaurants for a change of pace.
We tried the seafood restaurant (during the day this is the snack bar) as well as the international restaurant (the paella and the fish are a must-try).
After lunch, head out to the coffee bar for a Spanish coffee.....divine.
The beach is the nicest along the strip and there are plenty of chairs and palapas for guests. The pool is kept very clean and there is a life guard on duty.
Quench your thirst at the swim- up bar. Senor Oscar at the towel booth is friendly and always in a good mood.
We tried the massage with Frank (worth every peso) ... it is done in a clean, professional manner and I highly recommend it.
We also did some horseback riding and it was a fun experience (gracias Enrique !).
We also visited the 'shopping centre' about 10 mins away by foot.
You can go by either exiting the resort or by the beach.
The rooms are kept clean and towels are changed daily.
Yes, sometimes you notice some wear and tear, but heck, so what?
I highly recommend this hotel and pay no heed to those negative reviews..those people need to get out a little more!!!

We stayed at the Brisas from January 22nd - 29th we are a family of 5 and was in a group of 10. Upon arriving at the resort we were greeted with drinks as soon as we stepped off the bus. The resort is beautiful, kept very clean and the staff are very friendly, hats off to the Costa Blanca house band they are great and also to the entertainment staff, I've never laughed as much as I did during comedy night :) the dances have amazing talent and Alex always has a smile on his face, he is very funny.
The resort was kept clean as was the beach, groundsmen working very hard to keep both in great condition. The buffet was great, and travelling with a 6 year old and a 21month old I was pleased that they had a seating area for the kids (they loved this) I am a fussy eater but found had no trouble finding something to please me, favourites being the omelette station and the pasta station, pizza and selection of meats was good too, not to mention the desserts ;)
The coffee bar was great opening at 7am daily and the 24hr bar and staff were also great, a huge selection of drinks and I've left there with 2 new favourites "breezer" and "rum and coke"!
Hats off to Oscar at the towel exchange, he is very friendly and always made the exchange a pleasant one.
The beach is just beautiful, lots of coral and beautiful fish, they have pedal boats (4 people to a boat) for free, (if you wish leave a tip). They have life guards and security on the beach as well as security around the resort and we had security outside our balcony at night time.
The housekeeper in block 16 was great, kept the rooms very clean and was so so pleased when I had left her some perfume and clothes on our last day, it was very much appreciated.
We made some great memories at the Brisas and will definitely be returning!
I would definitely recommend this resort to families!

I may seem to be writing this review a little late, having travelled to Brisas with my partner last April, but in light of returning again this April I feel I need to share my review.

We loved it and think we found a 'home' here. I believe some of you reading this will too :)

Absolutely an amazing vacation experience!! Upon arriving to the shuttle bus (greeted with ice cold beer for the 90 minute bus ride for only $10 for 4 beers - they take CAN dollars if you haven't exchanged yet) to boarding the shuttle bus for the return trip, each moment felt like a 'vacation.' A positive and refreshing atmosphere, relaxing and entertaining, all at once. We also met some great people there who have become good friends :)

The food and the variety available is really good. There are a variety of choices including: a la carte dinners, buffet, 24h snack bar, a restaurant less than 1km left of resort (facing ocean), and lobster dinners available less than 1km right of resort (facing ocean). Drinks available 24h - we enjoyed pina coladas, the Brisas signature drink: "Brisas", Cristal beer, rum ('ron' in Spanish) and coke, and ron punch, to name a few. The coffee bar is great - it was a perfect start to each morning, opening at 7am each day.

The resort grounds were well cared for and the rooms were more than adequate - beds (a little on firm side), places to sit, fridges, tvs, and sitting area outside on the patio or balcony. We liked our room and the rooms we had seen of others who we met during the trip. When we first arrived to check out our room, our air conditioner was not working. It was simply solved by asking the housekeeper to show us how it works. The housekeeping, all staff in general actually, made our stay very enjoyable greeting us each day and sharing in good conversation (the housekeeper for our room was amazing!). The resort staff speak English well; some speak additional languages like French and German. It's part of their education requirements to be able to work at the resort, so if you come to Brisas Santa Lucia only knowing how to say 'hola' (pronounced 'oh-la') for 'hello,' you'll be fine :)

Money can be exchanged at the resort's bank for about the same exchange rate as the airport or the bank off the resort (for the difference of less than 2-3CUC per hundred, it was convenient to exchange at the resort). Remember to bring crisp unmarked bills for exchange (they are particular about ink marks and any torn or creased bills). Tip as you choose, but we spent about 10 pesos/day on tips and it seemed to be the average - some pay more, some pay less, depending on your activities or reason to tip. Tipping was never an expectation but,of course, always appreciated. If wondering about what to leave your housekeeping staff, money is always the preference. Although appreciative for anything, years of donated toothbrushes and toothpaste, for example, can eventually become an overabundance. If you can afford to bring some new or lightly used clothing or shoes, they would appreciate it immensely. Don't worry about size as the items will find its way to someone who needs it.

The available activities and excursions are great - horseback riding, coral reef (catamaran tour), other beaches, buggy rides, and the on site activities are endless, if you have are up for Spanish lessons, dancing lessons, kayaking, and much more. The entertaining staff are great and they put on some really good shows. The Brisas Santa Lucia band, Costa Blanca, was a delight - great performances on stage as well as serenading during a la carte dinners. We bought their CD and we were so happy the members had each autographed the sleeve for us :)

The beach itself was really nice - cleaned of seaweed daily, easy to find a place to sit, water was nice to swim in, a coral to see fish only about 200 meters from shore (near buoys). Maybe only 5 venders or locals trying to sell something off the beach - you might be asked, but never bothered by any of them if you choose to pass. The locals off the resort are a very friendly and appreciative people.

Before we went to Brisas, we wanted to make sure we were prepared for 'anything.' The positive reviews for this resort are tried and true, I can't say that enough, but taking note of some of the other reviews can help prepare for anything unexpected. So, with that said, we came prepared, though we never came across any of the 'misfortunes' a few others might have encountered.

Here are some examples:
- There was a comment about ants or bugs crawling in the room, so we simply brought some masking tape to tape up the 1cm gap at the base of the door - prob solved :)
- No condiments - misleading as they had a variety the week we went, but I guess a few packets of ketchup won't hurt - but I'm sure one can live without ketchup for a few days.
- Beverage cups are small, this is true, so we brought Bubba mugs - solved!

If you'd like some souvenirs, you can find some at the resort or even the airport. You can buy postcards at the resort and mail them - the post office is about 1km away to the left, facing the front/street. It's about 1CUC to mail a postcard, give or take.

A few extra tips: bug spray for night walks at beach; water shoes or something on feet in case you come across some coral while swimming; keeping some toilet paper and hand sanitizer handy (especially if going off the resort), have 25CUC per person available for airport departure fee (not included in your travel package); we brought some over the counter medications, just in case we needed them (ie: acetaminophen, Benadryl, gravol, Imodium, polysporin). We were more than prepared, only needing ibuprofen once for a migraine, but it sure beats feeling ill or 'off' for a day or 2 during a vacation :)

Brisas Santa Lucia is truly a great place. If you come with an open mind and are not expecting a lavish, but instead, a clean, well kept resort, you will be more than pleased. You're on vacation, make the best of all situations, be prepared, relax and enjoy your holiday at Brisas :)

For our return in a few months, we are most looking forward to the beach, horseback riding, eating fresh lobster, snorkeling, seeing all the great staff who work there, and mingling with/sharing the experience with other vacationers :)

We spent 2 weeks at this resort over Christmas and had a wonderful time. Having been at many resorts in Cuba and elsewhere we found Brisas Santa Lucia to rank with the best...... clean, friendly, variety of food and quality of flavour, excellent beach and things to do. What really stood out at the resort was the staff.... a fabulous team all around. The shows were great, from choreography to music and talent. 'Hats off" to Marien, Judy, Rollie and Julio.

Room Tip: The 4 rooms our group had were very clean, including bathrooms...... we were in the building closest...

My first trip in Cuba was to Brisas. I enjoyed my time spent there. Off the resort there are night clubs that are SOO fun. The have good drinks and many locals to party with. The beach was also the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. The dancers also make the trip even more fun. They are always out talking with the guests and having a good time.
