“Brisas Santa Lucia”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We were at the Brisas Santa Lucia on Sept 26 2012 for 7 days.
The weather was really nice.
The only complaint we had was our travel agent. She never told us they use Canadian Money.
We had U.S It cost $17.00 on $100.00.. Cuban money.
Please go with Canadian money On $100.00 Canadian it cost $2.00 for Cuban money.
No U.S go Candadian money.
They love toothpaste, shampoo, soap.Tooth brush.
They have no face cloths. Bring your own Beach Towel people will take it and it will cost you $25.00 u.s.
They have no Malibu-Rum or Bailey's..Only Liquors as banana pino colida, They haave rum Draft.
Bring your own Malibu Rum.they will keep it in the fridge for you. I went to the store and got pina-colada mix and they keep it in the fridge.
It was a nice trip. No complaint. Been there 2 times. The food was o.k.
If you dont like your room they will change it. Oh there 5 little kitten's bring them treats.
Hope this help's you's. Sunwing give you a hot meal...
Shirley..

I went for a first time to Brisas en May 2,012 for 1 week. We went back for 2 more week atof the end July 2,012. I asked for the same room as I really enjoy the view!. The cleaning, kitchen, bar, entertainment people are amazing. The food is good but it's not great, but we enjoyed it. For me and my wife, the time there was incredible. We rent a car this time ($ 75.00 per day) and we went to differents cities. We always feel secure and we are going back at the end of the year. The beach is gorgeous and clean.

Room Tip: Ask a room with a wiew to the ocean!. Section 6.

It's been a few years since I was here, there's not much I can say that the reviewer below SteveAnthony from Toronto hasn't already covered. Please do read his review for a true indication of what it's really like here!

Just make sure to take all your toileteries and any medication needed, and lot's of mosquito repellent and anthesan, you will need them, Cuba is not a country to go shopping!!! This resort is basically in the middle of no where, unless you take an organised tour it's also quite difficult to travel around.

I will say this hotel was the best in this area, we had a nice room with sea views, the staff were lovely as most Cuban's are. The beach here is absolutely amazing, soft pure white sand and very warm and shallow water, with lot's of creatures especially early in the morning, it's a great place for snorkelling, the reef is beautiful.

We took a tour through the rep to watch a Dolphin show, they were in the sea but it was cordoned off and we got to have a swim with them. It was a once in a life time experience to get up close and personal with these most amazing creatures. However I felt very guilty (and still do) that these wonderful, social animals are trapped and prisoned in this way, purely for monetary gain and we encourage this buy paying for such activities for our selfish pleasures. Would never do so again, Dolphins are like puppies in the water with skin like soft rubber, they deserve the freedom to wonder and play in the ocean!!!

Also if you can and would like to help, please find out the items the Cubans are in need of. Instead of tipping most prefer these items that are in short supply over there. Apparently you can now take an extra suitcase of stuff if you apply for it under some kind of human aid scheme.

Cuba es Cuba! Rather than compare to other resorts or other countries, this place is a fantastic holiday for the price! I could not go anywhere in Canada for a one week vacation all inclusive (not even a weekend), no cooking, no cleaning, entertainment, food, drinks, beautiful beach and nice people. If you go in the off season of course not much is happening and you will not get the full experience. The grounds are well kept, the lobby bar area has a great ambience in the evening, great pool and swim up bar, wonderful beach and love the Coffee bar. Nothing better than relaxing with a good cappacino or spanish coffee! Rooms and food are standard (I've seen worse) but again, es Cuba! Go with no expectations and you will be surprised. Entertainment staff are great during peak season. For the adventurous, many off site excursions are also offered - Camaguey city tours, catamaran trip to Bonita island, boat trip to Iguana Island, deep sea fishing, etc. There are four hotels in this area. Lovely people in the village of Tararaco located just after the Mayanabo Hotel (Brisas is the opposite end). For those that are health conscious, there is a cane juice bar located in this village just near the school. Freshly squeezed raw cane juice for $1CUC. It's your daily dose of vitamins!! Google cane juice to see the health benefits!! The owner Braulio is highly educated on foods that heal and is a very interesting man and has a passion for health and organic healthy eating. He knows the chemical composition of foods and how they interact with our bodies (cells). If better health is your goal, go speak to this man!! I visit him every time I go to this resort (I've been at least 5 times) and have learned so much from him. He's like the Dr. Oz (even better) of Cuba! If you visit the cane juice bar, his wife Gelsey or other workers may be operating it, if you wish to speak with Braulio you will have to ask for him......say hello and tell them Tracey sent you!!

Room Tip: Building 1 is great , close and accessible to lobby bar, coffee bar (in the morning, it's great...

There is a really good cuban restaurant outside of the hotel strip. you have to take a taxi there as its in the near by village Palmas de Lucia or as the locals know by Las Ochentas (Las 80). Its only about 8 km from the Brisas hotel going back towards Camaguey but dont worry you will definetly love the experience of the local home cooking. It has not a the biggest selection of dishes, but whatever they will prepare for you its gonna taste much much better that it would taste at the hotel. I did gave up on the hotel food, it makes my stomach not happy and even though im not a picky eater at all i simply dont satisfy on the food coming from those big hotel kitchen where who knows how long its been in the fridge or freezer and i can guarantee you that at this restaurant the food is super fresh. Its not a big deal going there as the village is just the resediential area. i went there and i was trully surprised, they use spices and the food has actually some taste, as oppose to the blended cuban standard cooking that consist of salt and cumin and garlic - very borring and not spicy at all, this restaurant the chef Angela and her hubby knows what the good plate of food is. love it and would go again.

Dont forget its the cuban paladar, so its sitting at someone home and feels like eating at home. simple but tasty. only have 2 tables. not worry, its cuba - relax.

The name is : LA KOOQUINA or something like that La Cookyina... the first street coming from camaguey just near the main road.

We had a wonderful holiday here. The weather fantastic, food was very good by cuban standards. We enjoyed the pizza and pasta at the buffet. The ocean was rough during our time there. My only complaint was that the beach is fair game for sellers of everything under the sun including young ladies. Not a suitable beach for young families. You would be far better of to spend a little more and go to Cayo Santa Maria or the Cayo Coco Area. Better Beaches and not the pushy sales or prostitution.

Reviewed August 20, 2012

I was at Brisas Santa Lucia with my two almost adult sons in August, 2012. We stayed there for two weeks. It was a mistake on my part to take two young men (who did not have girlfriends yet) to a place where internet use is limited to almost none (you do have access but you need to buy hotel internet card and use one of hotel's 4 computers to which there usually is a wait in line) and TV only offers two english channels.

But we had a great experience. We spend a lot of quality family time together, talking about life, etc without computers and technology in the way.

The beach was fabulous. The water was shallow but it did not matter. We rented a paddle boat (its free for hotel guests) and had lots of fun with that. We also went on a mini train trip around the city. It was only 5 pesos per person but it was well worth it.

The staff is very friendly, although it seems that they expect to receive gifts from guests. And if you tip them you will be treated decently, otherwise some of the staff members may be just indifferent to you. Bring as much used clothing to give away as possible. Especially Nike, Addiddas etc. Men love to receive basketball shirts. Also bring cheap jewlellery for the ladies. Anything that you want to give away to Goodwill anyway.

The hotel rooms were clean. We were happy with the cleaning ladies. Please make sure that you do not loose any towels because you will be charged a lot when you check out.

Food was OK. There was a lot of repetition on the menu, but the bread was fantastic and there was fresh butter, eggs (anyway you wanted them) so for people who are trully hungry and not too picky there was always food to eat. Pasta and pizza bar at the back were good even for Canadian standards. I loved the ice cream, fresh fruit and some of the pastries. There were always fresh cucumbers on the trays, chicken or fish so I really had no problem with food. BUt my sons were extremely dissapointed. Most of the time they would just walk into to the dining room and walk out straight to the hamburger bar or picked up some pizza. One day there was baked ham and that was a feast to them.

Overall I do recommend this hotel. It is a nice place, The beach and the pool are great. Entertainment at night is really cool. I had fun watching it almost every day. But going there for two weeks is too long. It would be wiser for me to arrange for a transfer to a different hotel for the second week.
