this pub is an O.K. sort of place on the broads ,"olde worlde" but none the worse for that.it's friendly, obviously very popular and in the quietest area you could imagine. fresh air, and good food-what more could you want ?
We tried this pub for supper during our hols but didn't return another time as we were a bit disappointed with the food and interior. The inside is quite basic and dated but clean enough - an outside beer garden and dogs welcome inside and out. The owners are friendly and service quite quick. Only a handful of diners when we were there on a Monday. The veg lasagne was probably microwaved and hard pasta layer at the bottom. The surf 'n turf we had was a bit of a rip off - £12.95 for a steak, or £17.95 with 5 bits of scampi. Similar price to better pubs in the locality but nowhere near the value sadly.
Called in for dinner as passing from beach paid £9.00 for stingy portion of fish pie with frozen vegetables from asda more like kids portion, my son found a hair in his dinner reheat chips with dodgy looking sausages looked like frozen stuck in deep fryer then found plastic in desert paid 3.50 for some dodgy frozen desert that cost them £1.00 cheap skates. Spent about £40.00 came out still hungry owner needs to have a good look what's comes out of kitchen and start asking customers how was there meal. Don't get fish pie findus boil in the bag portion stingy fukers....
Spent a few days in winterton on sea and visited the Lion a few times. John and his family and staff made us very welcome. Food and drink fantastic will be back. Good variety of food and well stocked bar. Very clean and comfortable pub.

I live in Martham and stopped off here for some lunch with the wife and kids (actually in pub at moment). My lamb shank was very nice, lamb juice mint gravy was lovely to, wife's ribs were also very nice and the sons steak also great. 2 kids meals were also good.
Basically it's very good food for the money and friendly owner/staff. Right that's it, best I get back to my beer.
Walked up ( 5minutes ) from The moorings and enjoyed a lovely steak and a warm welcome. Beer was good and a nice atmosphere. The pub doesn't feature in the "Broadcaster" newspaper, so visitors to the waterways may not know it's available.
Well done Landlord.
We live locally, and although past retirement age, we still work. Our one pleasure in life fifty weeks of the year is Friday night cocktail hour. The other two weeks we are on holiday!
Our normal port of call has closed for the winter so tonight we tried the Lion. It was excellent. We were a little early for food but had a couple of drinks ahead of time. Then we had the cod and chips which were excellent.
The whole place was spotlessly clean and the landlord and his wife were very friendly.
My only gripe was that the plates were cold but the food was so piping hot it did not matter.
I think we will be back.
I see they do bed and breakfast......I can't comment on that obviously but I would imagine the same standard would apply.
In finishing....I don't think the landlord was ugly and his wife was very smart.
