Welcoming, cosy cottage. Welcome pack a lovely thought. Bedrooms & front room lovely and cosy once the fire was roaring and the heating on. Thouroughly enjoyed our restful break.

“Lovely break”

We had a heat time at Bill's rest. It was like a home away from home, which with a 9 month old baby was perfect. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay at your cottage. The shower was the only thing that was a bit temperamental but other than that, gorgeous home.

“Hidden Gem!!!”
Reviewed January 3, 2018 for a stay in December 2017

We stayed at this property for New Years Eve (3 nights) and had THE most amazing time! Upon arrival we found that the owners had left us an amazing welcome pack & Christmas card (for which we were really grateful), there was even a Christmas tree and decorations! The fire was built and ‘ready to go’, which was great as we are complete amateurs in this area!

The property was spotlessly clean throughout, the bedding smelt completely fresh and there were so many bits and bobs that we needn’t have brought as they had literally thought of everything and catered for it. Not just pots and pans but a steamer (which I nearly brought and am glad I didn’t!), all shapes and sizes of spotlessly clean cooking trays, Pyrex etc. The grill pan had already been lined with foil, again, looking like brand new! Kitchen roll, drinking straws, dishwasher tabs, even the blue parking cards you need to park in the towns...you name it, it was there! The next door neighbour was a really nice guy too!
Having tasted coffee from a Tassimo which was very kindly provided (plus various pods) we have already purchased one upon our return home!

Given it was New Year and storm (Dilan?!) encroached, we didn’t do much walking/ exploring on foot with our three & five year old. There is a shop literally 30 seconds walk from the property which is very reasonably priced.

Our first ‘adventure’ was Lowther Castle, we chose this because friends had shown us photos of the play area and we like to view old properties, we had booked this in advance and have to say it was a bit of a let down! The play area was closed due to ice and wind (fair enough, you can’t predict the weather and safety first etc!), the grounds were nice and what you would pretty much expect during winter but the ‘castle’ itself just wasn’t worth the money...a few rooms with mainly LOTS of things to read rather than see - not possible with young children completely uninterested/ unable to read most of it. The remains were nice though I certainly wouldn’t go back there!

So, we decided we couldn’t go without seeing Brough castle, even though it was going dark and it was very cold and I’m so glad we didn’t! Looking at it atop the hill (and still feeling the disappointment from Lowther) it didn’t seem like it would amount to much, how wrong were we though?!
It was fantastic! Lots to see, even an unexpected miniature version of Lowther play
area and the boys loved thinking ‘they were in a dungeon’ (be careful though in the castle itself though, there are a few places they could fall from if left to go around corners unwatched! DEFINIETLY worth a visit!

There was plenty info left in the cottage for places to visit and we will DEFINITELY be returning to Bills Rest to explore these places in the very near future.

“Well Located Home from Home”
Reviewed December 16, 2017 for a stay in November 2017

We booked a four day break at this well appointed and managed property. The property is located on the main street in Brough (Cumbria) with a number of local amenities close to hand. The cottage has been expertly renovated to a high standard with every possible comfort catered for and is ideal for both short and longer stays. While the weather was extremely cold during our visit, the cottage was cosy with the lounge wood burner a welcome addition. The property was well equipped and the welcome pack was very much appreciated. There was a 'one stop' shop opposite the property to top up on supplies. The property is ideally located for visiting the North and South Lakes and into the Yorkshire Dales. The nearest town is Kirkby Stephen where there is plenty of 'coffee' restaurants and takeaways. While we visited many locations over the visit, our favourite was Kennedy's Chocolate Factory and café in the village of Orton. This is only a short drive and well worth it. The vast amount of local information and recommendations provided at the cottage enabled us to make full use of the time we were there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would have no hesitation in recommending this property to both couples and families.

“perfect little cottage, attention to detail brilliant”
Reviewed December 12, 2017 for a stay in December 2017

Bills cottage is located on the main street in brough, easy walking distance to pubs and eateries, also walking distance to castle ruins. the owners have covered every detail, even leaving milk, butter etc in the fridge.the cottage was immaculately clean on arrival and very cosy once I got the hang of the log burner!!
We only stayed for the weekend so we didn't get time to explore enough of this beautiful area, next time we will stay a bit longer, (there will be a next time!!)
the back area was perfect for our dog too

“Absolutely fabulous cottage in an ideal location.”
Reviewed October 30, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

The cottage was a dream from start to finish. Clean, modern with all amenities. Paul lays on little touches that make it even better that give you an indication he appreciates his guests.
Everything you need from food, drink and fantastic walks are nearby.
Our little Jack Russell settled straight in without fretting so this was an added bonus as well. Little extras for her was a lovely touch.
Thanks Paul.
Highly recommended everyone.
