Great place to stay on the beach. Really friendly and attentive staff that tend to all of your needs. The only downfalls were that our hammock sunk to the ground, the wifi was hit and mostly miss. They offer a great breakfast in the morning and tea time with cake at 4. There are two restaurants with very good food and a bar right on sight. A mosquito net covers you at nighttime as you fall asleep to the sound of the ocean!

Love this place and really hope I find my way back there.

Oh yeah and the waiter, KRISHNA. You can't say enough about this youngster! So friendly, so genuine and so genuine.

KRISHNA KRISHNA KRISHNA!

Room Tip: Beach front with a working hammock!

To say that John is grumpy immediately after what TallKev wrote would be conflicting. But I am afraid I have to say that John "is" grumpy. Then again, it does not matter to me if John is grumpy or jovial but more importantly the place is amazing !! Cairan's has these nice jute huts which are comfortable and above all right next to the beach. The property is clean, green and ample. The property gets a lot of foreign tourists and so the attitude of the staff is more suited to what they expect. For the price that Cairan's charge, lot of Indian properties would be lot more helpful and at your service. But then this is typical of Goan hotels that I have stayed in. They know they have a great place and they are not very keen on providing that extra service. Like, in Cairan's a set of broom and dustpan are hung outside each cottage indicating to the guest that you can clean your room if you think there is too much sand. I am not sure if lots of Indians are ready to pay the kind of money Cairan's charge and be prepared to sweep the room. The breakfast in Cairan's has cornflakes, french bread, butter and eggs. No Indian stuff, no puris, parathas, Idlis, I mean not even a toast. So after 2 breakfasts this gets a bit boring. But I guess the foreign tourists like it. To summarize, Cairan's has a great place in a great location. Food and everything else is more suited for western travelers. For Indians, for the price, I would like to be pampered a bit more. Surely!!

Room Tip: Do not take rooms in the sides, or in the front, people in the neighboring property bother you early...

Huts are big, basic but nice, we decide to take a room in the garden and we had a wonderful experience. You could hear the sea at night even from the garden. It could be a little bit noisy at night, depending on your neighbours, so take earplugs. Staff very friendly and restaurant excellent. The biggest problem for us were the beds, you could feel the springs digging into your body. But overall a wonderful experience!!!

Myself and my family spent the Christmas and New Year period at Ciaran's.
I've stayed before in Ciaran's and have also stayed in 5star hotels in Goa, the Taj in Benaulim and The Lalit Grand Resort not far from Palolem. Whilst the 5 star places are covered in marble with armies of staff they just can't duplicate the relaxing ambience that Ciaran's has. For the life of me I can't understand how anyone can find anything to moan about, the food is great, the accommodation fantastic and all the staff are, without exception, charming without making you feel uncomfortable and nothing seems too much bother. My wife happened to mention to Krishna, who works there, that she liked some of the Xmas decorations that had been put up, Krishna managed to get some for her in town the next day and was quite reluctant to take any money for them. The memories I've got of my holiday and everyone I met at Ciaran's are the only thing keeping me warm here in freezing cold, snowy England.
I've read reviews that have said that John, who owns Ciaran's, is grumpy. I have to take exception to this; he may seem relaxed and laid back but both he and Ashley, his manager, go out of their way to make your holiday memorable. Christmas and New Year celebrations were great, lots going on with fantastic food and entertainment and John made sure everyone joined him for a drink or five from his traditional Scottish"quaich" filled with whiskey on new year's eve; I'm not sure how much scotch he got through but no one went to bed sober. You can call John a lot of things but don't call him grumpy.

Room Tip: Email early.

My girlfriend & i stayed at ciarans for 2 weeks xmas/newyear 2012 & had a fantastic time, the owner john & his staff were charming, polite & very helpful.the food was great & the huts are first class, a bit more expensive than the average Goan beach hut, but there's nothing average about Ciarans which is set in lush tropical lawned gardens..if you ever visit Goa checkout Ciarans you wont be disappointed..!

Room Tip: book early & try to get a hut on the front lawn..

My boyfriend and I stayed at Ciaran's during November 2012 for 3 nights and we loved it!

It is a little more expensive than some of the other beach huts along Palolem, but it is definitely worth it. The huts are basic, but they are huts at the end of the day! The bed was comfortable, with a good mosquito net. The hut was very clean with a large mirror and their was hot water for a shower (at certain times of day!). There is a nice seating area at the front of the huts with chairs and a hammock, which looks out onto the gardens.

The breakfast included tea, coffee, juice, cereal, fruit, yogurt and bread or you could order eggs. The restaurant offered very good food at lunch and in the evening, we found it was always very busy. Also they offer free water refills and free wi-fi (coverage was hit and miss).

I'd recommend earplugs to block out the sound of the waves and the dogs!!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Ciaran's, so close to the beach and a really lovely place, would definitely stay here again.

I remember coming here first time some ten years back when Palolem beach was just up and coming. Ciaran's was an oasis then and since blossomed into the jewel of the beach, so much so that I returned four years ago and proposed to my fiance. What could she say? .... She loved the place so much we returned and got married on Ciaran's balcony restaurant in 2011 overlooking the beach with a perfect Palolem sunset. Marvin, the manager was fantastic at facilitating the event coupled with the organisational skills of Tabatha and the gorgeous staff, we had an unusual hindi style wedding complete with local priest, sitar player, tabla drums and trails of jasmine draped from the palm leaf canopy. The wedding breakfast was a real barbeque and tandoori seafood feast with the family, then we treated ourselves to the "out of this world" honeymoon suite for a few days to take in the best of the Palolem views. Thanks Marvin and the boys, we're coming back in 2 weeks.

Room Tip: any you can get, but the honeymoon suite is something else
