My husband chooses this place for our honeymoon. It was a total surprise and an enormous delight for me. I wish we can be there back soon!!! We totally loved this place.

The trip

We took a plane from Brasilia to Rio, and then we came by car to Lima Duarte. From there we got some dirt roads so I think off roads could do better. Anyway, it's real a short way. You enter the complex crossing a low water. We were welcomed with juices and by a formidably nice hostests.

The Acomodations

The main building is a house in the style of the classical farmhouses of Brazil. There were a chill in the air, so the fireplace was on. Everyone wearing horse boots (yuppi!). Our room, the last one of the house, was huge, with an extremely beautifull bathtub in the center of the room and very large accommodations, the best pillows, linens, shampoos and etc. I can say for sure that in this place everything is thought twice to make you feel good and welcome. They offer robes, warm up your bed while you're gone with small sacks of seeds, put whine in your room in the night. Everything. Just to be perfect.

Food

The food is marvelous too. A lot of seasonal fruit, all from the regional farmers and a lot of the food is from even the farm itself. The breakfast is amazing as the lunch, but, the supper is to eat on your knees! In one of the days, the even took us to a full dinner near a waterfall!

Fun

There's a lot to do. Horse riding, Walks, visiting, observe the wildlife, visit waterfalls, swim, massage, alternative therapy and a very nice ofuro and sauna, from where you can see the stars. And also the park, that you can't miss...

I can say I highly recommend this romantic place to couples and people that want to know more about brazilian nature. It's a unique experience.

A little bit difficult to get here from Rio but well worth the effort. We initally booked in order to experience the pony trekking which exceeded our expectations. As with all the other reviews the service and setting is unforgettable

Not easy to get to (it's in the middle of nowhere, deep inside the state of Minas Gerais and at the end of 20 kms of unmetalled road) but it's resoundingly worth the effort. This 19th C fazenda is in a league of its own amongst Brazilian hotels. Wonderful accomodation, charming and attentive service, (complete with a natural Brazilian charm) and really outstanding food. This is the only hotel in Brazil in my experience that can match the quality of the luxury hotels of Asia. The all-in model works delightfully well. Excellent walking and horseback tours in beautiful, unspoilt countryside, charming surprise picnics, and, best of all, beautiful pop-up dinners al fresco next to candle-lit waterfalls or by moonlight. And by Brazilian standards, surprisingly good value - even underpriced! Everthing about the Reserva do Ibitipoca is a cut above the national standard. Luxury bed linen in tastefully and individually decorated bedrooms, beautifully decorated meal tables, the best quality - yet locally sourced - food. All done with a respect for place, so that you will experience familiar Brazilian dishes (pão de queijo, bolo de fubá, feijão, etc) at an unfamiliar high standard of flavour and presentation. If lunch is an indulgent orgy of 'comida mineira', dinner is lighter and more sophisticated, thereby brilliantly addressing both Brazilian and European tastes. The whole experience was, on both visits, near perfect. Other Brazilian hotels aiming at the highest standards of hospitality; watch and learn!

My wife and i recently spent Christmas at the Reserva with our sons. It is hard to imagine having a better experience at a hotel than we had here. To start with the staff and service are special. Everyone makes a special effort to make you feel welcome. On Christmas Eve the staff set up a wonderful feast under some beautiful old Jabuticaba trees with lanterns shining throughout the trees and a path of lanterns leading up to the trees from the hotel...so much care and effort to make the evening special for all of us....very touching and so beautiful. The hotel is intimate with only 8 rooms. Meals may be taken alone, but we always opted for the communal dinner where we shared our excellent meals with other guests making friends and enjoying the regional cuisine. The food alone is worth a trip.
The hotel, built in original colonial style has comfortable large rooms with very comfortable beds and a great attention to detail, expensive linens, good wifi despite the remote location, Occitane soaps, great shower. The sprawling property sits next to the State Park of Ibitipoca and is a setting of stunning natural beauty. The hotel provides professional guides for hikes and horse-rides into the park and its surroundings. We went on one every day. We highly recommend the horse rides for those who enjoy this and if you go on a hike into the park do not miss the "Janela do Ceu" one of the most beautiful natural spots we have seen. The park is full of caves and waterfalls and beautiful views of the surrounding Minas mountains. At night we enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi looking at the brilliant sky and shooting stars with a caipirinha from the local cahaca. The hotel is a 4 hour drive from Rio and the last 20 or so km are on a dirt road.
The staff were fantastic and friendly and welcoming. Renato the owner joined the guests for a few meals and made us feel welcome and told us the history of the Reserva and the surrounding lands. We spent a very special four nights here and cannot recommend it more highly. This place is truly a GEM in Minas!

if you love nature, good service, comfort and delicious food, that's the place! Reserva do ibitipoca is far away the best hotel in Brasil. Nice acomodations, experienced guides to take you to beautiful places by walking, by car or even riding horses. If you just want to relax, take a marvellous massage, or go to the sauna or just pick up a book and find a nice place under a tree. there's no way to enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: it'simpossible to stay at a bad appartment

This place is in a class of its own, with a fine attention to detail and charming and helpful staff. The decor and style is outstanding, and the food excellent. I do not say these things lightly - I was bowled over by the whole experience. Wonderful waterfall and lake to swim in, sunset rock, nothing was too much trouble and it is clearly run with passion. Morning yoga class and all meals are included in the price. On our visit a special dinner was arranged on 'the beach' - a sandy area high up on the mountain. It was just astonishing. We arrived in the Land Rover and there it all was under a nearly full moon with bonfires, deck chairs, candles everywhere and Champagne before an excellent dinner.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 currently do not have air conditioning. Room 8 is the best (and most expensive) room...

It was good luck to discover this place for our journey through Minas Gerais this year in may. it needs a private car or plane to reach the Fazenda. From the main highway it takes 1 1/2 hours to reach this remote perfect place. Located at the end of the valley on privately owned land of a private business man the Fazenda was totally remodelled and very tastefully decorated in an authentic yet luxury style. There are only a handful of guest rooms offering all amenities for the discerning traveller, except TV, which we did not miss at all.
We experienced a warm welcome, personal care paired with discretion throughout our stay.
Claudia, the Manager of the Fazenda and all the staff did a wonderful job to make our stay unforgettable. Meals were all included in our package and the kitchen staff made every effort to create ambitious dishes with local products. On our first evening they arranged a romantic candle light dinner with candles and blossoms all around the otherwise emptied room. It felt like in a " Tele novela " production.
Chilling on the various porches with cachaca from the small barrels, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the lovely lake in front and the mountains in the background . We loved the wooden fired steam-sauna and the outdoor jacuzzi with great views of the starry sky and shooting stars above.
The owner of the Fazenda is a passionate horseman. The adjacent horse stables offer unspoilt horses for everyone, even for unexperienced riders. We enjoyed the riding excursion into the mountains with rivers, waterfalls and lots of birdlife accompanied by Claudia very much.
On our last day the owner Ricardo Machado arrived and we had the great pleasure to spend the evening together with him and some of his friends in a very relaxing athmosphere.
All together we had some unforgettable days and it is worth the effort to reach the Fazenda by all means. Thanks once again to all the staff of Ibitipoca and its owner to open this jewel for guests.
