We spent the weekend at the Villa on a staff retreat and all I can say is that it wasn't long enough. What a stunning venue! We went down to St. James pool early in the mornings for swims and then spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool (or on our beds). Everything you need is provided for and we all had the most wonderful time. The best is sleeping with the doors to the bedrooms open and hearing the sound of the sea all night. I would recommend taking a GPS with you though as the villa is so big you get lost in it!

Awesome house, very colonial, with a number of rooms and a games wing, all a young professional group could ask for for a relaxing holiday by the sea. Budget for at least a week with several friends (and kids) to take in the splendor of the house and the area, and preapre to relax and unwind.

We were married in Villa St James and spent five nights in the villa together with friends. It was the perfect venue for a perfect day - and a great party.

We had a great weekend at Villa St James. Once we arrived and unpacked, the children entertained themselves, and we only saw them when they were hungry. They spent most of their time in the pool room, watching DSTV and swimming.
We left there feeling utterly rejuvenated and relaxed.
Thanks for arranging the vintage steam train to come past!

It really is a huge villa, with lots of rooms that are neat, clean but may leave you fighting over who gets one of stunning front rooms in particular the one with a 4 poster bed that looks out over the ocean (In our case having done the research and I did a lot of research!! I felt it was only fare I took that room). It is a great place for large groups or a family looking for a bit of space as there is plenty of room and it’s fully equipped with everything you need. The garden area is immaculate, with views of St James beach and the mountain and was a lovely setting for an evening BBQ. The dining room is something else, you really feel like royalty as it’s adorned with Venetian mirrors and crystal chandeliers and a long banquette table. The location is ideal out of the hub of Kalk Bay but within walking distance to the boho shops and we enjoyed the Italian restaurant just a few minutes from the villa. Like all houses along this stretch of coast a road which is out of sight and the railway line run along the beach front. We didn’t find this an issue more like a trip back in time sitting on the veranda with a GnT listing to the crashing waves watching the occasional train trundle past. Jackie (I hope I’ve got the name right) who cleans the house was outstanding and her magic pantry that transformed dirty into clean dishes almost my favourite room in the house. However my personal favourite room in the house was the snooker room with its dark red fabric lined walls it made a spiritual end to many a night shooting some pool in our own boys room!

If you like modern minimalist trendy hotels this is not the place. Villa St James is a grand old mansion that has parlours, out houses, 4 posters, maid quarters a lawn fit for bowls or badminton!! If I had stayed longer I’d have bought flannel trousers a smoking jacket and settled in for good!!

We enjoyed staying at this villa, loved everything from the views, the rooms, the location and the history that it has.
