“Beautiful hotel, restaurant and casino big let down”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

This was our third stay at the casino and hotel. It is fairly new. Each visit we swear we won't come back, but the views draw us back. We had a luxury room this time. The hotel is clean, the staff is ok - not overly friendly. The halls in the hotel have damage to the wallpaper. The furniture in the rooms is low quality, which is a shame because the bedding and towels are luxurious. Beware of setting anything on the table with the TV. It's pine with about 100 coats of lacquer and anything set on the table sort of sinks into the lacquer.

The restaurant is such a disappointment! There is a deck with a beautiful view of Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands and even the little marina. The food is bad. The salad bar was small but ok. The steak was about 50% fat and the didn't taste good. The garlic mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about. The casino is tiny. They were going to have roulette and craps, but opted against it and finally put 4 slot machines in that area. Several of the slot machines were out of order which is an even bigger disappointment because there are not many machines to begin with. The bar service was friendly. The pool area has a small outdoor patio. The hot tub is indoors/outdoors with plastic flaps to push out the way to be either inside or outside.

Can't stress enough the views are spectacular!! When they first opened the food service was excellent. Now we are almost afraid to eat the food.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have a door to the outside, opening either to the lawn or to the pool. Rooms on...

I've stayed at Legendary Waters several times now and every time has been fantastic! The hotel rooms are greatly appointed with wonderful views of the lake and marina. The staff is friendly and treated us like royalty from check in to check out. The pool is on the smaller side, but being the only hotel in the Bayfield area, that can be over looked. The indoor/outdoor hot tub is fun!

We didn't win anything huge in the casino, but still had a great time! The casino did smell like smoke, but that is totally understandable, it is a casino after all.

The bar staff is AWESOME! I didn't think that with it being such a small "lounge" that we would have so much fun. Drinks were very reasonable and delicious!

The restaurant could use some work. The prices are not that bad, but for what you pay, the quality could be much better. Almost everything looked or tasted like it was pre packaged or frozen. Come on Legendary Waters, you have a great thing going. It shouldn't be that difficult to make things from scratch. Some of the staff was great but some need a lot more training.

We also ate at the café. The food there is good, but nothing special.

Room Tip: 3rd floor suite is amazing! Pricey but worth it!

The setting of this lodge is Red Cliff, Wisconsin, right on a beautiful bay of Lake Superior! The hotel/casino is fairly small it clean. Our room 402, was a non smoking room, located on the lower level, providing straight out the door access to the beautiful sitting area with umbrella covered tables. There is a small marina with dozen or so slips which provides fun watching the sailboats, etc. entering and leaving the area! The main dining restaurant has inside and outside dining. We ate outside for breakfast, and the view was Fantastic! Food was great, but slow in getting it. There is also a Casino owned RV park, which we walked thru, right on the lakes shoreline. The sites were neat, rustic, but also had power, etc. available. We'definitelygo back!

Room Tip: Even numbered rooms provide access to outside common sitting area, and boat landing/marina view. Odd...

We took our first trip to the Bayfield area and while planning knew we had to stay at some place that was directly on the Water. We found Legendary Waters and decided to give it a try. We reserved one of their suites and were very happy with it. It was beautiful with lots of space and a patio with a view. Money well spent on the room.

Now to talk about their restaurant and snack bar. The snack bar was a joke. They didn't have half the items on the list and what they did have was awful. Also the help was terrible. The service was awful, they were more interested in gossiping about other help than they were in taking care of customers.

The restaurant was good for breakfast but I wouldn't bother eating any other meals there. Our waitress was very nice and attentive but the hostess was lacking in customer service skills.

All in all we were happy with the room and would stay there again but we will eat somewhere else.

Our group felt unwanted! For a casino hotel resort that seems to be struggling, they sure treat locals & returning groups terribly!

The hotel was clean & nice, staff was friendly. The Marina manager was very courteous in helping us with anything we asked for.

It appeared that The bar & casino didn't want our business. Terrible bar service & harassing casino security & pit bosses ruined the experience for our group.

If issues don't get resolved we won't be back!

My arrival was delayed due to a flat tire so I didn't arrive until 9PM. I asked the person at check-in if there were any restaurants in town still open, and she just looked at me with a blank look on her face. No help at all. The service here is the biggest disappointment. (We drove into Bayfield with no luck, everything closes by 9, even in the summer).

Luckily the snack bar in the casino is open late. I would have given 4 stars if the service here had been any different. We stood at the counter for several minutes with no acknowledgement. They took our order and we stood and waited for a few more minutes. Then we sat at a table until we saw the food sitting on the counter and went and picked it up. No explanation of the wait, no thank you, nothing. The snack bar offers mostly fried food, nachos, burgers. I had a side salad. It was OK.

Positives- The host at breakfast was warm and friendly. The room was modern and spacious. The views and location are excellent. The price is similar to hotels in Bayfield, maybe even cheaper. If you're just looking for a room, this is a great option. But if you're expecting a resort experience, this isn't quite there.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 304. My husband noticed the cigarette smell from the casino. I did not.

I will say the rooms were nice, and it was very nice that the rooms were all designated as smoke free. The pool was fairly small and the hot tub was really small. We also ate at their restaurant, and I would give that a terrible, it was awful!!!!!! We had burgers and we couldn't even finish them. Very gross! I would rate that as the worst meal I've ever had.

There is no negotiating on the price of the hotel room.... The front desk people give you a slip of paper with the prices on it. Where the local hotels in the town of Bayfield have just as nice hotel rooms and they will negotiate on price.

We also asked at check in for a pack and play for out little one and were told they had them. Which was very convenient, but on check out we were surprised with an extra $5.00 charge for the pack and play. I have never heard of that at any hotel. They really should mention that up front if they are going to charge that fee.
