“Amazing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

We ate in the restaurant on both of our two night stay at The Eltermere Inn. We were really lucky with the weather and enjoyed a drink in the garden overlooking the lake where our orders were taken. My husband chose the seafood bisque for starters on both evenings - it was delicious. I had the crab and avocado dish one evening and a special the second night which was belly pork, scallops and black pudding with dressed leaves- very nice. Our mains were a special pork dish - belly pork ,tenderloin , black pudding , fondant potatoes - he is still raving about it.. I chose a different special of smoked haddock with poached egg and crushed potatoes - very good. On our second evening he chose wiener snitzchel - with dauphinoise potatoes which were beyond good and I had the chicken. We even managed desserts one evening - the local cheese platter ( very good) and I had the rhubarb and gooseberry crumble - again very nice. Both the dining room and the bar area are very stylish , yet welcoming. The staff are friendly and attentive. It's a special place - give it a try.

“It was fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

Not been here before and despite the lager and beer being rubbish (problems with the cooler) we had a great meal and quite a laugh. A few things went wrong, plates dropped and plates being cleared before we had all finished, but the staff were really pleasant and helpful. Food wise, it was great. One asked for the lamb and started moaning it wasn't as pink as he liked. It was pink enough for the rest of us! However, he said the taste was brilliant and better than the lamb he had elsewhere the previous evening. We had a range of starters, all of which were really tasty. Mains wise, I had the salmon special, which was superb. The puddings were well received and the cheese board well stocked with local produce. All in all, well worth a visit and the mains were similarly priced to other local places, but far far superior!

“Superb meal in a lovely setting.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

Returned here on Wed evening after lunching here at Easter. As we hadn't booked our arrival seemed to throw them initially! After a short wait we were shown to our table in the restaurant, which was lovely. We spent a pleasant few hours having starters & mains but couldn't manage desserts! Food was excellent, well presented and good portion
size. Will definitely return and would recommend booking for evening meals.

Thank you for you excellent review, I'm super-pleased about this one because the night on which you ate was really quite busy and we were down a member of staff or two, so to hear that you still had a wonderful time is music to my ears! Thank you for your patience and I hope to meet you again soon.

“Latest visit of many.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2013

I'm prompted to respond to the 'puggers03' review, because our two visits, for lunch and dinner, on separate days were totally at odds with the good lady's experience. We found the Staff, most of whom were new since our last visit and from a number of Countries, to be cheerful and welcoming. Our meals were, as always, absolutely delicious and very good value for money. The Landlord, Mark, told us that the recent good weather had brought them very many customers, so much so that they had been rushed off their feet for most of the week. We can but surmise that the complainants must have caught them on such a day and we would urge them to 'try again', because this Inn is indeed one of the best establishments in the Lakes.

“Outstanding Gastro-Inn with Rooms”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Stunning 17thCentury building on the edge of a delightful Langdale village, this once-tired hotel has been transformed by the energetic Jones family.
It has the lot; a wonderful back bar with raised hearth, stone floor, log fire and settles. Carpetted lounges and stylish dining room cater for residents and diners. There are a dozen characterful rooms. The food is top notch gastro-pub stuff. The menu heading are clear: duck, steak, fish, lamb, chicken etc but the detailed description and thoughtful preparation are a culinary delight.
The wine list is imaginative and the spirits shelf always features a speciality gin.
Special mention to mine host Mark who has completely transformed a large, sloping garden into a series of connecting spaces that afford delighful sitting areas overlooking Eltermere and the fells beyond.
The Eltermere Inn is our idea of paradise.
