“Great Wedding Venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014 via mobile

Stayed here 2 nights for a friends Wedding over Easter. The original building is amazing how they have blended the classic look and contemporary together very well done. The pool and Spa are beautiful and you don't get a cold feeling from the staff when visiting. The food is the only thing that takes the edge of giving 5 stars in my review as I found the quality a little inconsistent. The staff are what truly make this a quality Hotel. I felt they would go the extra mile to make your stay the best it can be. Special mention to Adele the Wedding Coordinator and Tom in the Champagne Bar a true credit to the hotel they would score a 6 out of 5 from me.

We stayed here for two nights, leaving on Easter Saturday. 2 adults, 3 children in two, interconnecting rooms. Nice contemporary hotel with a good pool. Rooms on the whole floor were not in keeping with the contemporary style of the rest of the hotel and were past their sell by date. They were dusty in places if you looked closely. Beds were comfy with crisp bed linen. Service was very good with warm, friendly staff, particularly the chap on front door welcome duty. The let down was the food which was over priced, small portions for main course and was not particularly tasty (at The Claret Jug). Breakfast was bland. Nice stay but let down by absolutely average food.

I've stayed here a few times now, and have always had a great night. The rooms are always clean and comfortable, and the recent refurbishments have updated those which were getting a bit dated. Always a polite and efficient welcome. Good food and a touch of class in the champagne bar!

first let me say we had a great 3 night stay in this hotel. the grounds and original building are fantastic. the hotel was quiet and our room, 243 although it was along way from reception was very quiet, no noise from other guests, although the heating system was noisy, but did not effect us as we both use earplugs at night. a few things that the management may want to look at. 1. our room although clean had mold or maybe discoloured grouting around the bath area. 2. we had no view from our bedroom, which is just the luck of the draw when booking a room, but the view we did have didn't need to be one of a very badly kept embankment, which if cleaned and tidied up could have looked so much better. 3. my wife is gluten intolerant and nearly all hotels we visit have a gluten free sausage available at breakfast. surely a 4 star hotel should make this available. 4. unfortunately we didn't use the restaurants as the menu didn't suit us and the prices even for a 4 star establishment seemed over the top, as indeed did the cost of drinks.
we didn't raise these points at the time as they in no way effected our stay. perhaps next time we stay here we will look for a dinner bed and breakfast deal.

We have just got back from a 1 night stay at the Oulton Hall hotel which we booked through a Groupon deal and then upgraded to a superior room. The room itself was absolutely spotless and decorated to a very highh standard with fresh coffee maker and bath robes for the Spa. The room was lovely and airy and bright and the bed was very comfortable and we really felt immeditaley at home and relaxed there. We found the staff very helpful and polite throughout the hotel despite what some people have said. The Spa and Pool areas including perhaps the best equipped gym I have ever seen in a hotel and easily exceeded expectations and we were just a little sad that we were not able to book treatments but then perhaps we should have booked these before arriving. We were not able to fully apreciate the grounds as we only stayed 1 night but it looked to have lovely surroundings so it was a pity we could not explore the hotel. I expect that the hotel can be busier in the Summer but did seem to be an ideal backdrop for a wedding so it was no surprise to learn that weddings are regularly held there. If there was a downside then perhaps the food served at the Claret Jug and the buffet breakfast were no more than adequate, we dined on the groupon but we had no issues with the service times but felt that the food lacked the wow factor and would probably have considered some of the dishes overpriced had we not of had such a good deal, having said that we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the Claret Jug even if the Live singers were a fraction too loud as we were sat quite close. Perhaps we were lucky but we did not encounter any of the problems some guests have mentioned and we found our stay near perfect, would we go back?.... Without a shadow of doubt but perhaps we would stay longer next time

Room Tip: Upgrading to a superior room is worth the £30 extra as you get lots of nice extras

Friends wedding. Beautiful venue, lovely grounds, fabulous service, great food etc.
We had notified we would bring a travel cot for our 6 month old and the reservation had a note of that and we were given a larger room (think was a disabled access room) but meant we had room for us, a seating area and room for her cot.

We had a brilliant time! Would recommend for a stay or a wedding!

Just got back from a 50th birthday golf break with 20+ golfers. Hotel was very impressive as was the Claret Jug clubhouse. What let's the place down is the poor quality of the golf courses, which have poor greens, fringes / fairways, and the attitude of the senior bar staff. Taking a golf booking of this many people, the hotel should expect a certain level of behaviour, not disrespectful in any way but merely jovial, but they seemed to be looking for excuses to exclude people from the bar at every opportunity. The cost of drinks is extortionate too charging around £6 for a pint and £26.50 for bottle of wine worth under a fiver. Such a shame, as the resort has potential to be a flagship venue. Think we may be looking elsewhere for our next £3,000 golf trip
