“Relaxing, pristine & delicious food”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

My boyfriend and I spent the day here last weekend as part of a spa day. The staff were really welcoming, we were offered a complimentary drink on arrival, robes and slippers were provided and shown around the spa & gym area. The cleanliness of the changing room and overall gym/spa facilities was spectacular. Our appointment was late in the afternoon but we were allowed access all day and at no time felt rushed. We had a full body massage which was very relaxing and the relaxation room was very comfortable. After the spa we had afternoon tea in the drawing room which again was pristine and the food was delicious and so reasonably priced. We often go to Betty's for afternoon tea but this topped it and is a lot cheaper. A beautiful place, excellent staff and perfect for a special treat!

As group of seven ladies we decided to treat ourselves to a champagne afternoon tea at Oulton Hall. We were greated by friendly staff who showed us straight into the drawing room were we weren't disappointed we were given an array of delicious treats including smoked salmon finger sandwiches and cherry and rhubarb scones yummy. However due to a oversight by staff they had taken our booking for the champagne afternoon tea only to be told by our young inexperienced waitress that particular offer only runs mon to fri and there was nothing she could do other than charge us £35 on top of our bill for a bottle of prosscetto. We declined this disappointing offer. The wonderful Malic another older waiter who was stood on the sidelines came to our rescue and got us a bottle of champagne free of charge and really looked after us making our afternoon complete what a wonderful chap he was. Overall our afternoon at Oulton Hall was wonderful and our little hiccup wouldn't put us off visiting this lovely venue again.

Just returned from a night here. Impressive drive up to a lovely stately home and the inside does not let it down.Friendly and efficient check in room very nice with a very comfortable bed and pillows I wanted to take home. We had cocktails in bar followed by a very good dinner served by attentive staff.A wonderful nights sleep and an excellent breakfast. My only criticism would be on the deal you get a bottle of wine left in your room not asked if we preferred red or white and who wants to sit in bedroom drinking.A special thanks to the concierge who went and got us a newspaper that had been forgotten and to Arthur in reservations who went out of his way to help when we had to change booking.

Went for a corperate event. The staff were excellent from start to finish always happy to go out of their way to help. The hotel itself had many rooms with a good selection of comfortable chairs and sofas to sit and relax. The rooms are nothing too special and could do with a bit of updating but the are clean and comfortable. The food we were served was excellent. Recommended.

Had good 2 day stay for company conference. The conference facilities are excellent. Staff go out of their way to help. Minuses: Food at Conference Dinner only okay, going up to get your own food didn't really save time and there was no sign of dessert.

We visited here just before Christmas for a wedding, the staff were polite and really helpful, but its over priced bar prices and the cold feel that the place has, not to mention the food wasn't that great (though is wedding food ever that great?) I wouldn't want to personally stay here, given that it is on the site of the very old mental assylum that used to be in these grounds its just a bit too spooky for me.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel this weekend as my works dinner dance was being held here.

The welcome we received from the Young Man on reception was warm, and the service from all the staff we came into contact with was polite and courteous, although a little slow in some instances.

We were given room 133 and upon first glance it would appear that the room is just a bit dated and in need of a freshen up, however on closer inspection the room was extremely dusty, especially the bedside lamps. There were strange marks on the top of all the furniture, as if the room had been painted without it being covered up, and most grubby of all were the strange white marks on the walls and the drawers of the bedside cabinets.

The lighting in the room was no good for putting on make up at the dressing table as it was just too dark.

When we tried to get ready on the Saturday I switched the shower on only to find that the water was tepid, my partner wanted a bath but the water was cold by the time I tried to run one. Upon reporting this to reception I was given an apology and the receptionist advised that she thought it was due to the weather and they were waiting for an engineer. When I spoke to reception in person a couple of hours later I was told that they didn't know why the water was off and we would be getting a £20 reduction from the room rate. Whilst this reduction was welcome it did not help the fact that what should have been a relaxing time away from home getting ready for a night out was a very quick dip in a cold shower, and also from reading reviews on here and speaking to other colleagues who were at Oulton Hall 2 weeks ago I know that there has been an ongoing problem with the water and frankly from a 4 star establishment this is not acceptable.

Breakfast on the Sunday morning was buffet style and chaotic, if hotels are determined to have a buffet breakfast then can they please think about bringing toast from the kitchen rather than having a toaster for dozens of guests to queue up an use while the rest of their breakfast goes cold, or vice versa!

The public areas of this hotel are stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed a bit of luxury in the Champagne Bar on the afternoon of our stay and the staff do their best, but this hotel is more of a 3 star in my opinion and the lack of cleanliness in the room is not acceptable in any establishment that offers guest rooms and needs to be rectified immediately.

If our dinner dance is at Oulton Hall in future we would be reluctant to stay again.
